What religion have you changed to now that no longer a witness?
by AK - Jeff ini know many have rejected the idea of organized religion.
i teeter on that myself.
but i have toyed with hooking to a little country church with some friendly people to associate with.

My father will lose his privileges if he attends my sister's wedding
by Goldminer inmy sister is planning on getting married within the next few months.her jw husband committed adultery and left her when their son was 7 weeks old.after getting a scriptural divorce she began a friendship with a "worldly" man and now this friendship has grown to a soon-to-be marriage.
this man studied with the jw's for a while but could see right through them found too many of their teachings didn't make sense so he stopped studying.he's made his stand with my sister and told her she can still attend meetings if she wants to.he's also a good worker and seems to really love the kids.he's not perfect but no worse than many jw husbands.
anyways, the elders pulled my dad aside on tuesday night and told him he could(could????!@#*?

When I was a JW, a friend of mine named Bill got a divorce from his wife. The elders considered it a scriptural divorce so he was free to marry. He started dating the "worldly" sister of this JW lady. This "worldly" sister started studying and was making some progress but they decided they should get married without delay. (I guess for obvious reasons.)
The elders would not marry them and they could not use the Kingdom Hall. So, they got a Justice of the Peace and began sending out invitations to people at the Hall for the wedding.
The wedding was scheduled for a Saturday evening. The Thursday evening before the Wedding...the elders in our hall gave a local needs talk where they instructed people NOT TO ATTEND THE WEDDING ON SATURDAY.
I was ticked. Because I felt like these people were trying to do the right thing and this lady was interested in becoming a JW and they were trying to get married so as to avoid sin and this was the way the congregation was told to "support" them. It made no sense.

The Year's Text: What's the point?
by Nosferatu inokay, i can see why they have the daily text.
it fulfills the need for a horroscope (sorta), although nobody is anxious to read the damn thing to see what the day is going to bring them.. but what about the year's text... what's the point of it?
it doesn't give an outlook for the year.

When I was a JW, I worked as a salesman for a beauty supply company that was owned by a JW family. During one of the service meetings, the owner of the company that I worked for remarked after a field service demonstration that the pioneers doing the demo were great salespeople.
I remember even as a JW that this made me very uncomfortable.

Bethel: Pathway to Apostasy
by Black Man inat the 'big house' you go either one of two ways, company man or apostate.
i think for many that went, it demystified the whole organization and you saw firsthand that there wasn't holy spirit influencing anything - only the muses of sheltered, out-of-touch old men and political bureaucrats.
i work in the corporate world and i saw just as much if not more politics in bethel.

Bethel was the beginning of the end for me too. I can remember having serious doubts about the organization within about four months of being there. I started reading the older literature while I was there. I also started wondering about how things worked there. I realized that things and buildings were more important than people. I also started wondering about things like CoHi Associates and other things.
In addition, the power and infighting among people wanting more power was a real turnoff.
I do believe that it would have taken me much longer to leave the JWs if I had not gone to Bethel. Bethel jumped started my trek out of the Borg...I should send the personnel committee a thank you letter for that. :)

4-1-05 WT Galileo and Catholic Church: Lessons to be learned
by blondie ini won't go through the whole account of galileo; he believed what his eyes told him, not the church, and died under house arrest.. .
the wts has these comments:.
because galileo rejected an interpretation of scripture based on greek philosophy, he stood condemned!
