What's up with Islam?

this is a religion i am not too familiar with.

so forgive me where i err.

it seems that this religion accepts jesus, but only as a minor prophet.

If that's the case I would deem it a mistake to allow the swearing in of Keith Ellison on a Koran.

If an athiest wanted to become a public official and they refused to place their hand on any religious book, would it matter? I wouldn't care if they wanted to place an oath on the Origin of Species. Once each and every country finds a way to separate religion from politics, the better off we all will be.

btw, it's not just islam - we seem to have a judeo-christian problem right here in the USA as well. our wise pres feels that god is telling him how to run the world.

Holy crap! It says only 4 are known to be in existence. I'm pretty sure I know where another one is located. It's at the Fairfield, IA kh. A good friend of mine(well, ex friend now and it's also where my parents attend) from there turned his hall into a mini-museum of sorts with old WT memorabilia scattered around the hall. They even have a COMPLETE WT library going all the way back to the original 1879 WT's(I believe those particular WT's were reprints though). I remember taking pictures inside the last time I was there - I'll have to find them and take a look again.

i phoned johnny depp and asked him if he would like to come up to the ranch..he declined..i told him he could ride the "snow thrower"!..he still said no.

American Economy Going Strong ! Thank God !

Actually I did. My portfolio is up 23k last year thanks to the US economy and the stock market.

It's one thing to say your portfolio went up so much in a year, but it's another thing to prove it. For all we know, you could have lost $23k. I'm fairly sure that no one on the board is willing to offer up their financials on a public board.

BTW, did you know that some of the best performing mutual funds last year were ones that focused on China(avg. 50-60% returns)? That's where the stable growth is at right now.

Another reason to not keep all of your investments confined into one country. Which is why ~40% of my portfolio is in Euro/Pacific companies. I learned my lesson from the tech bust. Sure, it was great watching those gains multiply in the early years, but after 2000-2001, things went south pretty fast.

the witnesses always say they are free in christ, i beg to differ, i don't know how many stupid unscriptural laws they have but lets start a thread on how many dumb witness laws you know and have heard of that make no sense or completely unbelievable, it is like they have a second talmud.

cant have walt disney movies or stuffed animals as this is magical.

cant have beards.

Standing for the flag salute is ok, but standing for the National Anthem is not. Which brings me to this -- Just back in early December, there was a volleyball match between MSU and Air Force. I took my jw wife to see it(I play with a couple of the guys from there). As the teams were doing their intros, they then went right into the "Please stand for the National Anthem." I immediately hopped up and stood and my wife got up too. Right before I stood up, another guy I play with and his girlfriend were sitting right next to us and I was thinking, "Great. My wife is gonna stay seated while everyone else is standing." But to my extreme surprise, she stood as well. I was totally shocked. Of course, if there were any other witnesses in the crowd that she knew, she probably would have stayed seated. It's funny how some jw's will bend the rules when they know no one is watching.

i swear we could write a novel about our life exiting the watchtower!!

ok..many of you read what happened..our house was egged and so was my sisters car that was parked here, and "frosty" was attacked!!

I really can't say more than what has already been said by everyone else on this thread. I would add that you do not "sue" them for anything. For such a petty offense, "suing" them would only serve to slightly blemish your reputation if it makes it into the media. At least, that is what I would think if I were some Joe Blow and someone sued their neighbors over such an act. "Great, more sue happy people over a 'teenage' prank." I would just let the police sort it out and have them pay their fine. Or better yet, see if they can do community service in lieu of paying a fine. But make damn sure that the local media gets wind of it! And if you're interviewed at all, be very concise about how you are an ex-jw and they were jw's.

It's not persecution once you break the law.

Cannot say oh my god

Back in 2000 when we toured bethel, we were in the lobby of one of the Brooklyn buildings waiting for the tour. As I was looking around, I caught sight of a few of my best friends while growing up in SoCal(Alpine). I froze and yelled out pretty loud, "OH....MY....GOD!" Everyone in the lobby turned and faced me including my friends. No one said anything about it, but I thought it was pretty funny considering we're not supposed to say that phrase and here I was in Jah's house blurting it out.

Movie - The Good Shepard

i just saw the good shepard and i am still trying to decide if i liked the movie or not.

it basically tells the story (i am sure somewhat fictionalized) the start of cia.. matt damon is really good in it, and so is alec baldwin.. i guess the main thing that i am struggling with is that the film makes it seems that to protect a society, you have to think like the enemy, commit heinous crimes like the enemy, to defeat the enemy.. i know its probably reality, but knowing this does not make you feel very good.. .

has anyone else seen this movie.. what are your thoughts?.

It's not just the "film." If we only knew what was behind many of the events the world over, I'm sure we would hang those in charge. I always think back to Operation Northwoods and if that were played out, how would it have been spun by the government to the American people and the world? There's no telling how many other "Operation Northwoods" there have been since, and how many there are to come.

A government will lie to protect its interests and will kill to achieve its ends, plain and simple.
