My question now is, will they appeal this ruling to a higher, supreme court, or will they not want to risk such a high profile appeal? As it stands, most likely less than 1 in a 1000 jws in the USA will know about this court ruling(they're probably faders that lurk on this board). If brooklyn decides to push this higher, it will only increase its visibility in the news. If I were them, I would be damn scared of such a thing happening - especially in light of the recent tract.

WT monitors sites?
by Gordy inthere was a post on the other day someone was asking about whether the wt monitors websites such as this and other "apostate" sites.. unfortunately i couldn't find it to add this to it.
i remembered a jw who worked on installing computers at london bethel, some time ago telling me that the wt did monitor websites.
this jw is gradually fading away from being one, so can't say to much about him.

For example, I have an active VPN connection to a client's server open at the moment. The entry in your log will not only be the wrong IP, it will be an entirely different ISP in a different city as well
Yep, the same could go for anyone who uses their company's internet connection. For instance mine - I am in Lansing, MI, but my IP looks as if it comes from TX. All of our employee's internet traffic, nationwide, (if they're on our WAN, including if they VPN into the network) funnels down to TX.
You can usually tell the difference between a home user from a company user. The home user's reverse IP name typically says comcast or charter or whoever the isp is. Some corporate IP's may not even have a fully qualified name on a reverse lookup so it would be hard to tell who "owns" it. But my point was, most people just surf from their home pc without using a vpn or proxy of some sort to mask where they are coming from. These are the people you can narrow down their location to.

JWs are flogging that end of religion tract today!
by headmath ini just drove past my local kh at 10:30 wednesday oct 18 and there was at least 60 cars in the parking lot.
the parking lot is always empty on wednesday mornings but not today.. i had to marvel at the supreme control the wts has over it's members.
the last time i saw a turn out like this was just after the boxing day tsunami.

Oprah for President in '08. Why? Why not?
by AuldSoul ini have seen the idea floated a few times in some interesting places, but also on threads here.. i think she would get the vote out in a way it has never been gotten out before.
it would also throw all the pollster's margins of error way out of whack (which might be worth it, all by itself).. why do you think she should be or could be elected president?.
why do you think she shouldn't be or couldn't be elected president?.

if an "african american" were to become pres, I can easily see powell being the one. he earned my respect after he stepped down from bush's company. from what I know of him, he is the one man who I could trust being pres.

I'm fairly convinced that we desperately need a non-politician for president - soon!
Wouldn't that be a breath of fresh air?

CAN RELIGION ACT AS A PROTECTION?
by Dansk ini've just finished watching the oprah winfrey show on tv (we're behind the americans, the show was about a year old) and it showed a group of teenage girls, from 13-18, who were into binge drinking, drugs, self-mutilation, etc.
peer pressure was a major source of the youngsters' doing what they did as they were desperate to fit in.
those who didn't want to get involved in such dangerous activities usually had no friends and ate alone at lunch time.

but I'm wondering if having a religious belief actually serves as a protection.
I'm not naive enough to think having a religion means one is unlikely to get into trouble - that's why I stated a real love for God or Jesus
Well, being raised in a corporate environment which masquerades as a religion has predisposed me more or less with a business sense, and not a religious one. So no. I would say that "religion" played no part in my life as providing a protection. Instead, it prepared me with the backstabbings, political games, and other backend office games that you come to expect in the real business world.
