"I can't imagine that God of love would sentence his children to live a life of loneliness and misery, simply because they were born different."
Beautiful, Rydor.
Keep exploring.
please answer the question(s) which corresponds to your current belief, if you believe in a. the bible and god.
b. just god, but no bible c. neither (atheist).
i'm asking for mutual benefit, in my quest for the truth (still a work in progress), some of the things i've run into you may want to think about, and in your answers will show if anything i haven't thought of or checked into yet, as well as all readying this.... (all the hours you've spent, vs just my own, having many combined may bring up a few good things for us all from everyones answers ).

i believe it's very republican in its outlook..
I believe it's very Republican in its outlook.
... i've written a letter to a local paper.
i hope it will be printed.
it says nothing about jws, but it should get the light bulbs to go off in their heads.
Scott, your article is great but the editor's advice is also very good. Reduce it to about a quarter of the length, and find some sexy hooks to hang your opinions on. And the first sentence must be potent.
Well done for what you're trying to do.
.....disfellowshipping, i think.. potential disfellowshipping, current disfellowshipping, disfellowshipping of people we love.. it's the most genius cult tool ever invented..
I just saw this video. Nice and simple, honest.... it supports my original assertion. Thanks Leticia.
i was talking to my husband and we were trying to work out how many meetings we actually came away from feeling enthused or excited by what we had heard.
not including pre and post meeting association how many wow moments can you recall?.
we had to conclude that most of the time in the organisation the meeting was something you endured.
I've done some soul-searching on this thread, and for me it was three things.
I liked that total sense of acceptance when I had prepared completely for a "study" (ha ha) and I was all underlined and highlighted in my Watchtower or bookstudy book and I put my hand up to answer and I heard my own voice giving the answer in my own unique words over the sound system and then I was told "Excellent answer, sister."
Do psychologists have a word for that? Oh yes, self-brainwashing combined with liking the sound of your own voice.
And then I liked it very much when I was sitting next to a cute guy I liked. That happened a few times. We were so "spiritual" together.
I think I know the words for that. Sexual attraction.
Then also, waiting to see where everyone was going for milkshakes or burgers, and once we were older, for drinks, after the meeting, and whether I'd be invited again tonight. Or whether I should make a plan and do the inviting, just in case.
That was pure teen socialization.
drew sagan in a recent post (he recently graduated college) said this, something that i agree with and frankly, think about often.
to those of you who feel that you need to "help others" in the watchtower i give you this word of caution.
be careful, because that may simply be an excuse you are using to remain stuck in the past.
Of all the walkaways I know in real life, I am the only one who reads and posts on ex-JW forums. They generally think it's a bit obsessive of me. Some imply that it's distasteful.
When I compare them with me, or my previous ex-JW self pre-forums to my current self, this is the big difference...... Because the issues are SO much more clearly defined for me now, and because I have immersed myself in them for a few years, I am much more vocal, outspoken, passionate, sometimes so much so that it seems to scare people.
I'm not so sure that's a good thing.
when my mum went to her first meeting she was dressed to perfection, she wore nice ladies dress trouser/pants.
the witness stuying with her told her it was "not apropriate" to wear this to the meeting...in 2006 i was in a congregation where a sister would put a skirt on over her pants she wore to work.
it looked weird, but the pants ban still is in force 2007.
I hope they keep the trouser rule.
When any new female adult "bible study" first attends a meeting in a normal smart outfit, similar to what she wears to client meetings, and gets told that she is dressed inappropriately, it should set those alarm bells ringing. Run, baby, run.
no matter what anybody here says, you should never ever disclose to your friends you used to be a dub.. you are either.
1: an active witless.
2: weak.
Hamsterbait, I so agree with you. Just the other day a very close friend said "You Jehovahs..." and I almost lost it with her.
"What part of EX Jehovah's Witness don't you understand?"
(And why do you persist in calling them Jehovahs?)
what is the current "light" on this hairy subject?
is it okay for a jw to have a brazilian wax?.
How is this a religious issue?
If you're the type of woman (or man) who shapes your eyebrows or shaves under your arms, you should absolutely groom your pubic hair.
Now, what if you are a man who is clearly a natural-born ginger-haired person? That will severely limit your options going forward. I have been up close and personal with bright orange ginger person and trust me, it's difficult to get that image out of your head.
True gingers, male and female, should immediately forget religion and remove as much evidence as possible.
this is the story of how one ex-jw has overcome the shunning.
i found it be very positive.
i hope you enjoy it.
Well done on your new life!
