I laughed so loud at Darth and Mrs Jones at the start of this thread that I think I may have woken the neighbors.

Religion and Cults
by alice.in.wonderland ini've heard certain people here refer to jehovah's witnesses as a mind-control cult, high-control cult; theories perpetrated for how long i don't know, but at least since the days of ray franz.
i had spent nearly forty years as a full time representative, serving at every level of the organizational structure.
the last fifteen years i had spent at the international headquarters, and the final nine of those as a member of the worldwide governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

Such a good quote, Gayle......
The JWs are a "destroy, destroy, destroy" religion.
Most people on earth are like "Death, disasters, tragedy..."
Jehovah's Witnesses preach "Destruction, yay!!"

Yah I remember those scary Circuit Overseers talks when they came around telling us most of us would not make it that only the most loyal and faithful would survive. I often thought so what is the point of putting forth the effort, I'll just go home and wait for the end and relax. LOL
I recall as a child seeing a relative at family gatherings crying, after a few drinks, "I'll never make it, I'll never make it through Armageddon". I remember thinking at the time, "Then why do you even bother, silly woman?"
She's still a JW "in good standing" today. (And she judges me, as they do. Even though I'm not DF'ed.) Now I realize that it's evidence of possible untreated mental illness and perhaps spousal emotional abuse by her elder husband. Yet isn't that what membership in this cult is, a type of mental illness combined with abuse by so-called loved ones?
Wish this family experience had given me the foresight to avoid being "baptized" into the religion.

by Georgiegirl instarted a new topic b/c i didn't want to threadjack another ongoing pointless debate.

Here is the Letter I am thinking of sending ,give me your input
by troubled mind inattention to the elder body of the *******congregation of jehovahs witnesses .
criminal harassment is defined as "engag(ing) in intentional conduct which the actor [harasser] knows or has reason to know would cause the victim, under the circumstances, to feel frightened, threatened, oppressed, persecuted, or intimidated; and causes this reaction on the part of the victim.

Who cares if they DA you?
The family cares.
Shunning is a completely horrendous and life-destroying practice.

Sadly, I remember that myself, about 10 years ago, I would tell others JW in my congo who I thought would make it through Armageddon, and who would not. I recall saying that over 50% deserved to perish. When I think about it now, I am discusted at me.
Bless you darling, for realising this. Of course it's weird. It's not normal to think like this.
But you'll be okay. Forgive your parents, and stay conscious for the rest of your life.

I'm all for building the mosque, just as soon as Christian churches are built in Mecca and Medina
Why does it have to be reciprocal? I just don't get this "I'll do it if you do it" game.
If Christianity is morally "superior" (which I don't personally believe it is) then shouldn't Christianity be big enough to allow Islam on its physical territory?
