Guess it's time to tell you all the story of Black Magic Moses.
Oh my god here we go..........
the jws are correct in their opposition concerning the xmas holiday and that there is evidence both scriptural and ancedotal that jesus was not born in the dead of winter on dec. 25.. but what i don't get is why do they go along with a crucifixion memorial which coincides with the time of moses passover?
is there any real proof that jesus was crucified at this particular time period?.
yeah, i know about the legend that passover was "foreshadowing" the ultimate sacrifice of the lamb.....but this is contrived information.. where is the proof that jesus was crucified at passover?

Oh my god here we go..........
i was raised by a "strong" jw single mother.
she was very very strict but i loved her then and always will.
after the death of my mother i waivered back and forth with my spirituality only because this was my first chance of "freedom" and being in the world to do things that i never really got to do.
Hi tootie, welcome.
Many members of the forum are rightly angry about the way membership of the Watchtower has affected their lives. Others are past the stage of having any emotions about it at all. For me the only thing that matters is what is objectively true.
The organisation has made made far too many major mistakes to be the chosen by god in the way they claim. Why would god allow his people to misunderstand what he said about blood resulting in countless premature deaths? Why would god's "channel" have a long history of failed predictions regarding the time of the end? Why is it that first Russell and then Rutherford was apparently the "faithful slave" and yet today hardly a single thing that they taught is still official teaching? The scandals and cover-ups are well documented.
If you go back you will have many conditional friendships; every one of them will drop you if you leave. Is that the kind of provisional life you want?
There is life and freedom outside the organisation. If that is what you choose you will likely find the transition painful but few if any regret it in the longer term. Only you can judge what is best for you.

The unleavened bread was originally to remind Israel of the haste with which they fled Egypt, no time to "prove" the dough. The link between leaven and sinfulness came later, so no problem with the wine.
Wine became a feature of the meal later and it was not just a sip, I cant remember the details but there were at least 4 cups of wine during the evening with specific psalms sung in between each one. Sounds like fun actually.

There is no "proof" that Jesus did or said anything but assuming you are going to accept the bible as an authority then the synoptic gospels it makes it very clear that he died around Passover time. See Matt 26:17 for example
i think i can live without it.
however, i already carry identification and a cell phone.
perhaps there is not a huge difference.
UK government spent millions preparing for the introduction of ID cards and eventually ditched the whole idea.
They cannot be trusted with our personal data. The number of times civil servants and govt ministers have lost computers, laptops, cd-roms, and flash drives with thousands of personal, medical and financial information is rediculous

I am sorry for your loss. Your dad sounds like an honourable and intelligent man; a real man. They are increasingly rare in the WT
Well done for not being intimidated into playing their game.
Bill
do you not know that they teach wrong doctrine?.
i hope you do i pray you do!
it's brainwash on so many lvls.
they also do human and animal sacrifices.
No they don't, they are cruel and controlling and negligent and abusive and dishonest; that's enough reason to despise the borg. Saying things like that just makes ex-jws sound nuts
richard dawkins closes down his free-thinking/free-thought site (www.richarddawkins.net) for 30 days to reconfigure it 'because too many morons were contributing drivel' (he doesn't put it quite like that!
) he is then surprised because those self-same contributors call him everything under the sun (i won't repeat the names flung at him on our ultra -refined boards).
he now wants the site more or less 'peer-reviewed' (by analogy with papers to learned/scientific journals having to be vetted by vips).
It seems to me, if one is concious, not walking about as a zombie and one has truly read the bible reflected on it, studied it made notes, and conversely done the same with Dawkins read his books reflected on his hypothesis weighed them out and one chooses to deny a creator, designer then one is willfully ascending into the depths of darkness and hell.
OMG! I don't know whether to laugh or scream.
I know the bible in great detail; I have read a great deal on evolution. One is full of the most fascinating information I have ever encountered and full of facts that can be verified. The other is full of mythology, superstition and banality and substitutes evidence with threats of hell for dissenters. You figure out which is which.

could a creative force be the catalyst?.

Every living thing; elephant, sponge, cabbage, bacterium, pope, evolved from LUCA the Last Universal Common Ancestor. As zoiks said this is not an extreme view, its as certain as the fact that the earth revolves around the sun.
As for how self-replicating stuff got started, the honest answer is science doesn't know. Same goes for how the cosmos got started. Did time and space begin in a singularity before the big bang? (actually nothing exploded it inflated very very quickly) There are many competing hypotheses and lots of progress. Its funny when theists who deny the most mundane and fundamental science appeal to the cutting edge of theoretical physics to try to find support for god.
To insist that god must reside in the gap seems like a short term fix. Its can't be proven or disproven it just doesn't get us anywhere. Methodological naturalism (assuming for practical purposes that the super-natural is not a factor) has got us this far, best plan is to stick with it
