Help! I have a pyramid/1914 question?
by keeshondgirl indoes anyone know when the watchtower society stopped believing that they arrived at 1874 and 1914 as results of russels measurements of the pyramid ?.
how long was it that they believed their pyramid idea before they used their twisted bible dates to 'prove' that jesus's enthronement wasn't based on a pyramid measurement?.

TD is correct.
Now 1874 was the original date, based off of they caculated 6000 years from Adam and that 1874/75 would start the 7,000 year and make sense to be the 1,000 year reign. When nothing happened, Russell went off of (this generation) and since a biblical generation is 40 years added that and you get to 1914. THEN he read in the bible about the "two testaments" or 2 witnesses in egypt, (some scripture in PR or IS) and took it to mean the Pyramid of Gizeh, since it was so perfectly made and appeared to be the center of the earth if using a certain map. Then measurements seemed to fall in line with dates, hence he used the pyramid as further evidence of 1914. Probably wasn't till the 20's + that all of it changed and they found a way to toy w/ the scriptures to make it look like gentile times prophecy and no way related to how it was originally predicted.
THEN in the 50's or 60's, they found that they were off by 100 years, and thats where the 1975 prediction came in. I'm surprised after that didn't happene, they didn't add the 40 years as well, making it 2014, but if that did that, it would destroy the 1914 date.

Although don't agree with a lot of WT interpretation is, this one I do think is talking about God. If comparing with Rev 12:10 - "because the ACCUSER of our brothers has been hurled down, who ACCUSES them DAY AND NIGHT BEFORE our God."
Job as well, when Job 1:9, 11 - Is is for nothing taht Job has feared God? For a change, thrust out your hand and touch everything his has and see whether he will not curse you to your very face.
Prob 27:11 - does not make sense as a earthly father to his son, because who is "taunting" him?
Based on those scriptures, Satan is quick to point out all ones sins and try to talk God out of forgiving them, saying they don't deserve it. Based on Rev 12:10 - he is the king of tattle tailing

Did King Solomon believe in any life/hope after death?
by EndofMysteries inread the entire book of ecclesiastes, it's all about death, what do you think?.

In Jesus times, forgot which of the Jewish leaders did not believe in a life after death. It really seems Solomon thought that our life while on earth now is the only life we ever get, following commandments of God are beneficial, but there is no after life.
I atleast see where based on the OT, many would think that, it seems to say this is it.

I "think" I know where WT against medicine/vaccines originated......
by EndofMysteries inwhile reading an interlinear of the greek scriptures, i noticed where "spiritism" was put in place of "druggery", which is from the greek word, pharmakia.
now that is where we get pharmacy from.
is this not hypocritical though?

While reading an interlinear of the greek scriptures, I noticed where "spiritism" was put in place of "druggery", which is from the greek word, pharmakia. Now that is where we get pharmacy from.
Is this not hypocritical though? If the bible was strictly against druggery/pharmakia, then why was just blood condemned. Surprised not ALL medicine forbidden.
Now aside from the WT apsect of it, I wonder why druggery/pharmakia is translated to spiritism. Many will simply take that to mean reading magic books and casting spells, when it is definitely referring to drugs.
Any thoughts on the WT side AND/OR just the strict biblical sense of it and how it would apply to us modern day?

When the NT references the "word of God" what is it referring to?
by WalkTall inthe nt references the 'word of god' in a number of places.
(for example: hebrews 4:12-the word of god is alive and exerts power and is sharper than a two-edged sword).
it can't be referring to the ot and the mosaic law because those authors writing after jesus's death were trying to put away the old law traditions, and it can't be referring to any of the nt books because many were not even written yet or known to be scripture per se.

What is the Biblical Support for Observers at the Memorial ???
by RubaDub ini have never gotten a good answer for this questions from any other jw's other than "everyone was of the annointed back in the first century" or "we are showing our respect for the arrangement" or some other nondescript comment.. even the notion that we "celebrate" the memorial is not accurate since the "celebration" part is limited to 8 or 9 thousand people and the 15 million or so that attend are merely observing or watching.. is there some other biblical support for people to observe the celebration ???
in all my life as a jw, i still don't quite understand the significance of it from a biblical persective.. rub a dub .

The confusion comes from 1 cor 11:28-30 - which speaks about partaking and drinking means taking on judgement, and you must make sure you are worthy prior to doing it, and that's why many are sick. (Haven't really checked into it much yet, but seems to go against Jesus speaking about it, and almost as a snare, because aren't those judged those who reject the sacrifice and those who think due to their works they are 'owed' it, would think they are 'worthy'?
Seems Jesus said all are to do it, if they want to get life. Seems 1 Cor is saying, take it, only if worthy, because you'll be judged when taking it.
I haven't done enough comparing or interlinear comparisions yet, which may clear up the confusion.

The best way to prove to a JW that 1914 is a false prophecy!!
by cyberjesus in.... .... .... .... .... it doesnt matter!
jws will not hear or reason any argument!
even if you had a time machine and took them straight to the fall of jerusalem and then to the day rusell went to egypt and measure the pyramids.

You missed the point Cyberjesus, the arguments are generally trying to convince against what they are taught. What I showed you there, is using their own reasoning, but showing they forgot to add 30 years with their own reasoning.
I know what your getting at though, or I think I do. Here is one for you, compare Cain's sons and Shem's sons, side by side. Go to Jesus geneaology in Matt or Luke, and notice the difference. Then, very closely compare Cain's son and Shem's sons again, do they seem strangely similiar?
