thanks for the real quote in context. i get so annoyed with pulling stuff out of context and not citing references properly. they are very non-academic in their approach.. but then academia is anathema..... so it figures......... dumb.

as completely utterly stupid and ridiculous.... apparently they are depicting someone born in the 1920-30's....child, youngster, early "career", betterment, old ager. but no...because that bike looks very 50's ish, and the younger kid is dressed like the 30's. So someone doesn't have his/her generations right...................hahahahha surprise surprise.............................

by finnrot ini was raised a jehovahs witness from birth, but even as a little child i had my doubts.
that's why i was never baptized.

oh yeah, and those lovely hot humid sweat drenched days sitting with sore swollen ankles and feet..........and then THAT was your lovely summer vacation. you go back to school and the kids are all yapping about the beach or something really cool and they ask you....well......i went to new york city. stayed in a hotel..........rode a sardine packed subway smashed between stinky sweaty people....this was pre-air conditioning days........then when the sessions were over it would take like 45 minutes just to get down the ramp and back to the subway to roast and faint yet again. no wonder so many of us have post traumatic stress disorder.

sounds awesome! the judgemental part i really appreciate. it takes nerve to assume total strangers are ignorant or evil...and to denounce them to death in the same breath!

They really are pooping their pants over these latest "signs"...
by undercover ini've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.
i usually take those things with a grain of salt.
there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.

Villabolo - I LOVE it! The cats say it all.
I just think it is completely appalling that people actually revel and enjoy seeing disasters of this magnitude. It is so awful and so so sad for the survivors...and now the threat of contamination, cancers, etc from the radiation. How anyone in their right mind could gloat over such a horrid occurrence and be elated because they think there's death doom and destruction on the way....well, not in right mind. So so sad and awful.

It is *only* an earthquake, not the boogeyman!
by Nathan Natas inthe recent earthquake in japan will be a tragedy for many hundreds of individuals and families and for the nation of japan as a whole,.
but, as the saying goes, "the end is not yet.
many people who were raised as jws, as i was, often find that unexpected claps of thunder or the distant roar of jet engines as planes come in for a landing cause them almost reflexively to think "armageddon?"..

hahahah............outlaw....it's sad and funny all at once. how can people revel in the misery of others..........seriously, it's sick.
nickolas.....yeah...........there's an interesting viewpoint.

OUTLAW, that is one of your finest! Congrats!!
Does it screw you up? Good lord...where to begin. It creates mental illness...total loss of sense of self-worth, makes people moronic....can't be educated....if it's fun or light-hearted you can't have any part of it. You have to dress to look like a frump....the Puritannical rigid system stifles creativity, enjoyment of life.... and you can be beaten up if you're a kid....oh, and if you happen to be female you are an inferior being. Paranoia....there's a earthquake -oooooo it is armageddon at last!
I personally believe any organized religion is a dangerous thing. All it does it pit one person against another. Someone always gets the idea he alone is right and the rest are all wet, hence inferior. If people can come together and have a meeting of the minds - even disagree, but thoughtfully and respectfully...that shows some intelligence. I am rambling now....toward the end of my extremely long timeframe fade away, those meetings were just so so so pathetically infantile........bad grammar from the platform...all the material could be easily understood by any 8 year old....repetitive, depressing....everything negative. oh well...it's been years now.....i knew the "truth" and it set me free...................

What Is Truth?
by Reopened Mind ini was the one at the meetings who had a dictionary or at least a definition written in the margin.
i thought it was important to understand the meaning of words to better comprehend the lesson.
i liked that the writers would throw out words which were not commonly used to help us expand our vocabularies.

Deepok Chopra - not quoting verbatim, but from a Sunday New York Times Magazine section interview a few months back, made this observation....
In the beginning God gave man truth....and then the Devil came along and said let's organize it and we'll call it religion.....
Think about it....all the truth is there in the universe...all the mathematics and science...every single thing down to the tiniest atom....and the universe is ever-expanding....we haven't a shred of "truth". We only imagine based on our limited capacities.
Then, of course "you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free".....it's almost humorous, but after so many years in "the truth", you see the light.....and you are set free. It is so far larger than people can confine to a religion or a pattern of living.......it is universal, huge and so beyond our limited imaginations......just so so very big and wonderful................:)

Crazy Is Flirting a Sin? Q & A
by Iamallcool inchristianity -- christian living/is flirting a sinadvertisement.

Ahhh....flirting. Can lead to sexual contact. The perpetrator or perpatratee may have an STD.....a hitherto clean body can become sullied and have to seek medical attention. Herpitical erputions could occur. More meds. Could become mortally dangerous.
Stifle that first wink. Splash cold water on the nether regions if afflicted. Never, ever flirt. Can be the first step in a path to eternal destruction and damnation. Plus.....if a JW, could result in a meeting with a committee hell-bent on committing you to Gehenna or worse.

MY DAD IS SHUNNING ME!
by Hairyhegoat inwell this was no surprise to me that my dad was doing this.
m df brother went round last night to borrow some tools and my dad just had to mention that he was dissapointed with the family and how we don't go to the meetings anymore.
he told my brother that he could not have a proper farther son relationship as he does not share the same faith and hope for the future as him, and if an emergencey situation was to present it'self then he would be their for him.

It is so sad that people treat family like enemies - heinous criminals - for no reason at all except a different viewpoint on the grand scheme of things. I know, I come from generations of dysfunctional family members due to religion. It is so pointless. We are all people, on the same earh, subject to the same pluses and minuses.....who really has any right to judge any other person....and think they are unfit for their holy or not so holy presence. We are all in the same boat. If you don't like someone, fine.....just limit your time with them...don't let them drive you nuts. But just obliterating innocent people from your life because they think differently is just stupid, cruel and ridiculous.
