Could You Live Without Your CellPhone?
by SpannerintheWorks ini rely on it for business.
some reports say that they cause brain tumours...?
they also save a lot of lives (indirectly, of course) by allowing the user to dial for emergency services when there isn't a payphone nearby.

I don't carry one, but my wife and daughter do, and we've found them to be very necessary. Could we do without? I suppose, but especially with her participation in extra-cirricular sports, we have found the phones to be very useful, since practices sometimes run late of get cancelled, etc.

I think Pink's lyric goes like this:
"I'm sick of being compared/ To damn Britney Spears/ She's so pretty/ That just ain't me"
Actually, since she eschewed her blond poof Ronald McDonald look, Christina (G)Aguilera is looking quite good again.

Do You View Your Fellow Posters As Your Friends?
by minimus inis this just a board to you?
do you really care about the people here?
have you made "real" friends here??

It's been months since I've had any contact with my jw friends, except some visits to the Hall. Being a jw all my life, that means thatt lately I've been hanging with family but no friends. Hence, the online friendships, including the ones I've made here, have become even more important to me.
Especially by means of IM chat, some of the friends I've made here have been very helpful in filling that void. Seeing others post here helps too.

The 1914 Generation change
by Andyman ini was over on the thread about the blood policy and got to thinking how easy it is to just accept a change and after awhile people even forget all about how important it was at one time.
if the society does change the blood policy how long will it be before it is just accepted, and brothers and siters don't even recall the previous stance on the issue?.
this got me thinking about the change in the 1914 generation.

It's been seven years since the change in the 1914 teaching, so assuming a growth rate in terms of baptisms of between 200,000 and 300,000 per year since 1995, that's between 1,400,000 and 2,100,000 JWs who may not know much about that teaching. Of course, many those were children or newer ones who may have some knowledge of that teaching and experienced living through it. But I guess what I am trying to say is that it really does not take all that long for something like that to fade from the collective consciousness of a group or from the mind of an individual. Given enough time, it all fades into the past pretty easily, which is evidently exactly what the Society counts on.

Was Public Reproof Traumatic for You?
by zenpunk ini was reproved at the age of 17 and, believe me it was a nightmare at home.
first, my parents felt such shame over me - i was such an evil disappointment to them.
i would hear my mother talk on the phone to other sisters about how sad she was about the way i had turned out.

This thread is blowing me away - there are some powerful stories here. I don't even know where to start as far as saying 'I feel bad for you'.

There are real people behind all the posts, obviously. I try to get to know a few by various means, and that has been rewarding. I've never met anyone from this or any other board personally. Does that somehow limit the extent of the friendship? I'm not sure, but in a sense I don't see why it has to as long as there is mutual trust.
There have been a couple of people from this board who have even reached out to me beyond e-mail and IM chat, like snail-mail and phone, and I think that makes the friendship seem more real to me. I'd really like to meet some of these folks. Too bad no one lives close.

I'll be checking the site further too - and one thing the guy hit on that I have personally felt needs more discussion is the possibilty that indeed much of what the WTS applies to the past with regard to the Master and his slaves will really take place in the future. Of course, I am not convinced that the 'slave' is necessarily associated with the WTS as the jws claim. So such a topic may be moot anyway, but it makes for interesting discussion even within the framework of jw teaching.
