JWs having Facebook Sex - Strongly warned to get off FB at CA yesterday
by shopaholic inso it appears that jws are letting their freaky side come out on fb for everyone to see.. there was talk on the ca yesterday strongly warning all true lovers of jehovah to delete their fb accounts.
the talk was solely about fb.
the speaker mentioned that jws are associating with people that would not associate with in real life, often using the excuse that the person is a relative.

This could be a way to hide the real problem the WTS has with Facebook. Since there are so many websites people could really sign into for sex of all sorts, banning Facebook itself won't prevent any JW from having "illicit" sex if he or she really wants to. But, as someone pointed out, it is a way for JWs to stay in contact with former members or worldly relatives of friends that the WTS can't control. Saying that up front would not be a good idea; so, let's say that people are using it for "fornication" and scare people with the idea that they can get disfellowshipped for it.

Troubled Mind, I fully agree with this:
This is one of the biggest crimes I think the WTS commits against it's members.
As a non-JW who was never deprived of these things, I can only shake my head and sympathize with you. This post gets to me because I happen to have met several JW's, one in particular, whose dreams didn't come true, either, for the sake of daydreaming. How terribly sad.

Special message for Dr. James Penton
by Nathan Natas inmany of you are familiar with the channel c discussion group, a christians-only discussion group with a fairly large xjw component.. even though i would never be permitted to post on channel c (i'm the lowest form of creation, you know, an atheist), i like to check in with the channel c crowd every so often to see what "watchtower world" stories i might have missed.
i hold no antipathy toward christians, i just don't agree with their conclusions.
live and let live and all that.

Natas, I'm your fellow atheist and I see your point. However, I would also like to take this with a grain of salt. Check Pat Condell on YouTube and have a good payback laugh. Just as we make fun of religious people, they will make fun of us. Live and let die. We're the guys who stand up for free discussion of everything, ourselves included. Our pal Mark Twain would say that "sacred cows make the best hamburgers".
Just think that the definition of atheism cannot begin by saying that "in the beginning there was nothing". That is what Christians believe. Er, sort of; Wasn't God in existence already? And, then it was God that rearrranged "nothing" to produce "everything".
I will certainly give in to the temptation of humming "Making Love Out of Nothing At All", but I won't exactly be thinking of Air Supply.

Worldly friends on Facebook
by dgp insome people i know to be jw's have worldly friends as facebook friends.
i apologize for my ignorance, but, isn't this supposed to be socializing with worldlies?
if so, it seems many jw's are simply ignoring what the wts says.

I noticed what shopaholic and jacqui said. One of the witnesses I met is a fan of the manufacturer of artificial vaginas, which is not the kind of thing I would expect a witness to recognize being a "fan" of. It doesn't seem to have any effect on his witness Facebook friends. I also noticed that they usually don't say they are witnesses.
Greenie, you're right in your remark. For some reason, some witnesses don't say they are witnesses. Maybe someone else can explain why.

Thanks, guys. Maybe the right conclusion to draw is that Facebook itself is sort of frowned on, and then having worldly friends could mean nothing or could mean a lot. It's a very ambiguous thing. However, most die-hard dubs wouldn't have contact with non JW's.

If you moved to do field service abroad
by dgp ini wonder if those of you who went to do field service abroad could tell me what made you go, what did you think of the prospects of leaving your home country for areas that are not the best in the world, and whether you got any compensation from the wts for your work.
i'm asking this question as a non-jw.
i'll appreciate your posts.

Thank you.

Daniel Rodriguez's The Watchtower's Coming Crisis
by dgp ini'm reading "the watchtower's coming crisis", by daniel rodriguez.
rodriguez claims the watchtower will have a severe crisis in the years to come, as "the generation that wouldn't pass away" does pass away.
time is the wts worst enemy, he says.

This book was published in May 2009 (http://www.amazon.com/The-Watchtowers-Coming-Crisis-ebook/dp/B002CGT06A/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=digital-text&qid=1264218380&sr=8-9). I know about the change in the idea of the generation, and I myself posted on that thread. I wanted to see, anyways, whether this man was onto something.
From a certain perspective, the sad thing is that this kind of information is misleading. A person who is not very much aware of what goes on in the WTS might take this book to be sound advice.
