Treat them with respect. I appreciate its difficult at times with some but by showing that we're not "evil apostates" may help them realise slowly that the org isn't all its cracked up to be.

How Do We Help JWs Who Come To This Site?
by minimus inwhen a witness checks this site out, they could think it's a jehovah's witness friendly site.
the fact is this site is for anyone interested in jehovah's witness things, whether they are still witnesses or once were or just want to know about witness life.. what positive ways can we help a witness on this site?.

Anyone here have any experience of moving to a liberal Muslim country?
by lifelong humanist ini'd like to move in the next year or two to turkey - a huge, self-supporting country at the far eastern end of the mediterranean.
i want to retire at 60 - my wife will then be 61. due to the local economy in turkey, this could just be a practical possibility, not just a pipe-dream.
although we'd prefer italy, which we've visited far more often, the costs there are just too expensive for our restricted budget!.

Turkey is one of the more moderate Muslim countries but not sure if there are KHs in the more coastal holiday places.
I recall being told once that witnesses from the UK and other Western European countries on holiday shouldn't attract attention by attending the meetings as the witnesses were partly underground. Not sure how up to date that is though.

No kilts at meetings. You will find the occasional poser at the district convention wearing one. They are only worn for weddings.
Even "worldly" Scots only wear them for weddings really.

I'm originally from Edinburgh but live in England now.
My memory of growing up was the celidhs that we used to have. They were witness gatherings with lots of traditional Scottish dancing and were good fun.
There was however, a noticeable dfference between the congregations that I was in compared to my English relatives. They seemed to be more friendly and sociable whilst the Scots were a lot more introverted.

Am i correct?
by angel eyes inthis is just an obsevation from me...ok i dont mean to annoy anyone but is it true or just me?.
i feel that ones raised in the truth are so much better of than us who came in from the world.
i say that because they have family who are witnesses too.

Georgie girl - don't forget affect and effect!
AE - I was very lucky with my parents they never pushed me into baptism (didn't get baptised until I was 23). I was fortunate. I was never bullied by kids in school but others weren't so lucky....my problems were with the others in the congregation even when I was a small child.
Some who were brought up witnesses and have now left find themselves in very difficult situations - they sacrificed their education, chances to go to uni, have good jobs so was being brought up a witness good for them?
I do think that someone who is studying with witnesses needs to study for a lot longer than 6 months to really understand what they're letting themselves in for.

when my dad came off from being an elder the first thing that they wanted back was the book. the book was always kept hidden away in the house because of what was written in it - although with my dads handwriting no-one could have read it anyway!

Being able to sleep until I wake without an alarm is something I'm still getting used to. More on a Sunday to be honest as I never went out on field circus! but it still fees strange being in my PJs at 10am!

AE - I'm glad you're on this site and learning so much about "the wonderful organisation"
You're not the first person and will certainly not be the last one to be shocked at what really goes on in the back room with the elders.

I remember reading on here someone hearing in their cong a child saying that all the kids in his class at school were going to die at Armageddon! I think thats awful! Especially from a child!
Can't think of any I've heard- I obviously never paid much attention!

Unfortunatley Isaac they only look at the highly visible ones rather than the hidden paedophilia...
