What made you think?
by greenie ini know this topic has been covered, so feel free to ignore me or point me to another post for your response, but i'm just curious: what made you first think the jws didn't have it all?
what it a slow process or like a lightening strike?.
for me, a non-jw, it was like a lightening strike when i started reading about the blood issue..

Studing alone, and skipping from book to book (WT issued) I notice discrepencies/contradictions between what was being taught.... then I noticed the story of the disciple Stephen had been altered in the NWT to read that he cryed out to Jehovah- In my NIV, it reads that he cryed out to Jesus..... I smelled a big fat rat! I questioned, got online, and all in one afternoon.... so for me it was like a lightning bolt! (a lightning bolt that could have struck 18months earlier- But I digress- it's over now:)).

Question re; when a study quits....
by Lillith26 ini have been wondering lately, what type of treatment would a aux/reg pioneer recieve from the elders if one of their 'studies' quits???.
did you ever have a study just quit??

Why would god do this?!
by foolsparadise inwhy would a loving god place a tree of knowledge of good and bad in the garden and tell the two humans they could not eat from it?
did he like tempting them or what?

If I am to assume that the HUH? is directed at me, I apologise if I didnt make my comment clearer.....
Not everyone who believes in a creator/god... believes what is written in the bible....
This is a gap inbetween theism and atheism...... it's called Deism..... I am a deist of sorts and as such I do NOT believe that God is any of the characters portrayed in this book or any other 'holy'book......

I again appologise.... by this I meant that one is thinking critically of the information, aware of the facts, and is able to find fault with the information presented... aka shit detector is switched on......

Not everyone who believes in a creator/god... believes what is written in the bible, or any other holy book to be fact or even a reflection of truth... You dont 'get it' not because your jewish, not because your a christian, but because your bull$hit detector is switched on!

Bible Research help needed.
by cantleave inmy wife and i want to start looking afresh at the bible, go back to basics as it were.. what have people here found to be the best approach?.
what translations of the bible would you reccomend (i have the nwt).
what commentaries / texts have people found most useful?.

The most honest approch I can think of (and the one I took), was to research it's origins, history and the religion that came before christinaity.....
By looking at the bible from all angles possible before placing your 'faith' in it as being 'the word of God' (regardless of translation used), you will have more information on which to base your opinions..... and dont expect to ever know anything 100%
When buying a new car, do you ignor complaints made about a certain model and not double check first before you buy it???
Take full advantage of Google- check as many websites as you can find that have a netural approach to the study of the hebrew and greek scriptures- and a good website on 'religious tolorance' is always a good idea.......
JWN also has a search.... perhaps most of what your looking for has already been posted here......

The Borg Clearly does break up marriages and destroys friendships- I am glad that forums like this exist, and that ex JW's or still-ins have a place to come online for support and unconditional love (from most posters).....My heart goes out to you lits... to you and others just like you......
