Atheists, what is the best argument FOR God?
by bohm inthere are no convincing arguments for god, but some are worse than others.
i thought it would be interesting to see what people consider the best (of the bad) arguments for god?.
in my oppinion it is the fine-tuning argument from cosmology.

Conversation with a christian today or: How the holy spirit got it wrong.
by bohm ini had the oddest experience today.
i was walking down the street and there was a group of christians standing in front of a boxcar nicely painted with their logo and website.
they had brought loudspeakers and mixing system, and were playing some loud semi-techno stuff while they were dancing like crazy (literally, there was an old guy jumping around with an umbrella doing a rolling stones impersonation).. i did the only sensible thing and stopped to see what was going on and take a picture.

Pinker & Wieseltier on scientism
by bohm insteven pinker, one of my favorite current thinkers, has given his perspective on "scientism" (or the lack thereof) in what turned out to be a short debate with leon wieseltier.
the articles contain too many points to summarize here, but pinker point out some obvious issues with the word "scientism" as it is currently used, discuss what science is (and offer a positive definition of scientism) as well as what he percieve to be an unnecesary resistance towards science from *some* parts of humanities.
the articles are quite long but easily the most interesting thing i have read on these subjects this year; they also show what happends when one as wieseltier bring rethoric to a knife-fight with a first rate intellect.

Bertrand russell on sceptisism (the philosophy)
by bohm ini am currently reading bertrand russells "a history of western philosophy" and this passage struck me as true:.
scepticism naturally made an appeal to many unphilosophic minds.
people observed the diversity of schools and the acerbity of their disputes, and decided that all alike were pretending to knowledge which was in fact unattainable.

Would anyone be interested in a review of Richard Carriers "Proving History"?
by bohm inrichard carrier has written a book on the historical method where he argue all valid historical methods can be described by, and reduced to, the logic of bayes theorem.
conversely, he argues that any method that cannot be reduced to this theorem is invalid and should be abandoned.
he argue this is particular important when investigating christianic origins and he identify the lack of bayesian methods as a key problem.

The Al-Gore Heuristic for reasoning on climate change
by bohm inlets say we wanted to determine if it was a good idea to wash ones hands after taking a dump if one wish to cook food.
we can imagine two ways to determine it:.
1) evidence-based reasoning.

Why WLCs lottery counter-example for "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" is flawed
by bohm ini recently began reading strobels "the case for faith" and in chapter two wlc repeat his refutation that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence".
his argument is as follows: .
this standard would prevent you from believing in all sorts of events that we do rationally embrace.

Refuting Robin Collins argument for fine-tuning
by bohm ini have lately tried to rethink my position on gods existence and tried to be more critical of the atheistic position.
this has partly been spurned by my impression objections to theistic arguments often rely on the same errors atheist accuse theists of, for instance using the shotgun-method (i.e.
picking 3 faults with all premises in the arguments) or building conclusion on a web of arguments and, when considering a particular argument, supporting it by other parts of the web or simply not addressing the argument very well.. as part of this i came across collins 1999 article on fine-tuning.
