from the department of really minor quibbles: I would suggest changing the order of the "Hottest" and "Latest" button because most forums sort by "Latest" and so it should be the default and have the most prominent place.

Hottest Topics - New Sort by Rank Option
by Simon ini have just enabled a new sort feature which should appear as a new tab called "rank" on any of the topic listing pages (by forum or subject within it).. there's also a "hottest" link in the main nav.. what does it do?.
well, think of it like active topics ... the latest things go to the top.
except instead of anyone being able to make something go straight to the top simply by posting on it, now the ranking is based on a combination of things including how many likes and dislikes they have received combined with when the posts were made.. what should happen is that likes for new posts will give them a boost as will replies but over time their effect will diminish.

Vidqun:
Cofty, I wanted Viv to follow the reasoning, and point out flaws, if any. She's the expert, don't you know?
In any case, here's a summary:
Laws of information and information science are the following:
1) Anything material such as physical/chemical processes cannot create something non-material. E.g., information.
2) Information is a non-material fundamental entity and not a property of matter.
3) Information requires a material medium for storage and transmission (E.g. books, CD, DVD, etc.).
4) Information cannot originate in statistical processes.
5) There can be no information without code.
6) All codes result from an intentional choice and agreement between sender and recipient.
7) The determination of meaning for and from a set of symbols is a mental process that requires intelligence.
8) There can be no new information without an intelligent purposeful sender.
9) Any give chain of information can be traced back to an intelligent source (E.g. radio announcer, radio waves, radio).
10) Information comprises the non-material foundation for allThe problem with these "laws" of information is that when they use the word "information" it does not relate to any known definition. For instance, let's take Shanons definition of information (which is the most relevant one), in that definition a source of information *is* a statistical process and so "Information cannot originate in statistical processes." would seem to explicitly rule out Shannon information.
In other words, the laws are not only unproven, what they reflect is what the author *wish* for information to be, without ever checking if those wishes relate to anything in the real world. It is no better then me speculating about how colors *ought* to behave and concluding optics is wrong because it describe colors in a way I don't like.

I've had enough..
by raven inso last night, after thinking "wow those pesky elders have finally left me alone, maybe since i skipped out on their jc invitation back on august 1st they've given up" wrong.. i go to check the mail and there's an envelope at my front door- lo and behold, another letter from from these elders.. why won't they leave me alone already?
i'll attach a picture of the letter.. again, same letter as the first one inviting me to a judicial committee on august 15th - and signed by all three elders.. should i just continue to ignore?
quite frankly i don't give a rats arse i've been enjoying life free from the mind control of the organization, and i just wish they would drop it and let me live life.. like i mentioned before, i am moving to a new home next week, the only reason these elders have my current address ( which happens to be over 100 miles away from the cong ) is because my mother gave it to them, after i gave it to her in confidence to forward me my mail.. so lets just say she won't be getting my new address... i don't have any contact with ones from this congregation (i'm an ex pioneer, so i'm sure if they've gotten word on what i'm doing, i must be satan himself!

I think I would text them: "For personal reasons I can't attend the 15th. I will contact you when I can attend a the meeting". Then ignore them..

Three graphs in connection with the Watch Tower's current financial situation
by slimboyfat ina number of public statements by the governing body indicate that they are experiencing financial difficulty and they have appealed to jws to donate more money.
public information on the financial situation of the watchtower society is limited.
but what does the information they do publish indicate about their situation?

Just asking a silly question, can a "special pioneers, missionaries and travelling overseers" work at Bethel or is it exclusively someone who preach? (i.e. could this be a way to pay salary to specialized workers)

Dutch convention: disassociation in broader perspective
by Gorbatchov intoday at the utrecht international convention in holland there was no "word in spanish" about dissassociation.. "we avoid any contact with dissassociated witnesses.
not only sinners, but in a broader perspective, also inactive witnesses".. there was a lot of noise in the hall direct after that moment.. so, no fading escape in the near future, i expect.. g..

Technically, I guess it can be interpreted to only relate to disassociated witness (though it makes little sense because they would be inactive by definition).. I think it is a case of saying things so witness can infer it how they want.

Trolley cart "witnessing" is getting ridiculous
by oppostate ini really fail to see how much actual "witnessing" is occurring with the trolley carts.publishers, usually pioneers, just stand or sit there not engaging anyone and count their time.. the only thing i notice that it's accomplishing is brand exposure for jw.0rg so the public is exposed to the logo and literature/poster card headlines.. take for example this "evening" witnessing by a pioneer elder while on summer holiday/vacation.. .
is this not a wth kinda moment when you consider the years of slaving, knocking on doors, business territory and bible studies we had to keep performing so we weren't branded a "weak" publisher?.

Pioneering could be done by gluing the magazines to the cart, chain the cart to something heavy and go for the beach ;-). -

Aw praise Jah! Do you know what vital job you will be doing?
To bad about your wife. As the head of the household, I think you should council her to be happy because right now, she sounds downright discouraging. She must realize your appointment could only happen with Jehovahs backing and so she is really grumbling about Jehovah! Read her Exodus 16:2 and I bet she will be exhilarated!
Furthermore, how does she know what interesting positions are in store for her at Bethel? For instance, if your wife is fat, she might get promoted to stomp potato peels so there is more room in the container.
(I think the irony-meter is off for some of the posters on this thread)
Update: When I write "bet" I only mean it as a figure of speech. I do not want to encourage gambling because that makes Jesus sad.

My mom went to a meeting yesterday and there was an announcement that she says found disturbing disturbing. Here it goes-
In the upcoming circuit assembly (for her its on Sept 25th in Norco CA) there will be news from the governing body. Don't let this news discourage you, nor let it lead you to leaving the congregation.
Something like that, does anyone here know anything? I don't go to the meetings anymore so I'm out of the loop... -

European Prospective 2017-2022
by sp74bb inthe new "business plan" for jw.org in europe has already received a name within the org: european prospective 2017-2022.. this plan is already on the table of the big guys in the us.
in the practice it has been already getting the approval of the majority.
so, no surprise at all to vote it.. essential features of the "business plan":- sale of all branches in the eu, except germany and uk (the latter benefits from brexit and certain privileged position)- all printing and digital material prepared and printed from germany- in each country, a local liaison office is left, certainly no more than 3-4 families.- free part-time worker is boosted from home, cheaper and hastle-free !- money to the new entity formed in belgium, as a non-profit organization (ibsa goodbye ...)- the most complicated ... who will care for the data of european jw ... confidential information and color envelopped with sensitive information.... enjoy the new european jw times !.

hi sp74bb,
Thanks for collecting the information in one place. As you might know, this forum has been burned before by people who claimed to "know" what would happen but it turned out to be false so that's why people are so skeptical.. I myself almost can't make myself believe what you are saying is true because it would be so dramatic. a bethel family is husband+wife so 3+4 families is approximately 6-8 people?
What I wanted to say is that I hope you will revisit this thread whenever one of the things you mention come to pass with a big fat "I told you so"; then we will know for sure that you are right.
You mentioned one of your past predictions had come to pass on another thread, but I forgot what it was. I wonder if you would link it?
