  They "can give gifts on any day of the year"... But do they?

  how many times we had heard from jw (commenting on christmass, mothers day or bithdays) "they dont need a pecial day set to give gifts, because the can give it on any day" .... but whats your experience if you compare jw and non jw ... are they really giving?.

  my sons (7) example:.

  he has non jw grandparents: gets all kinds of gifts all the time, sweets, magazines, toys,.

  I completely agree. some of us are very hospitable, me being the one always inviting people. - to be honest I didnt give a shit I always did a present day for my kids in the christamas hols until we made the stupid mistyake of moving in with my parents and they soon manipulated a stop to it.

  anniversaries I never made a big thing of because I saw some families doing it and it annoyed me because they would go all out and call it 'anniversary' like a holiday - yes we are all together next week its anniversary. - if a wedding is a joyous occasion then why not a birth? there is no sense in acknowledging one and not the other, - the only reason anniversaries arent frowned upon are they eithr dont have a good enough reason, or they think if they cancel that then there wont be any fun loophole and everyone will leave.

  Starting all over again

  i just became a member last week and picked my name feeling free because that is exactly how i feel free at last.

  i have stopped going to meetings and field service about 6 months ago, and feel great.

  there are jw's in my congregation who email me they miss me and are missing me at the meetings but i just respond that i am fine and taking care of myself.

  Im so glad you are feeling happy and free. my sister has just left and sas she feels a sense of calm. I do think you are still on your journey, but its a great start. x

  i was loosely allied with the jws thru my teens after my mum studied with them, finally getting baptized at 30. no one else in my family went, my mum had stopped, i used to hang around on the edge at meetings,mainly ignored.once an elder came over and reproved me for having a little coloured sticker on my bible to distinguish it from all the other identical ones.

  once a sister offered to give me a lift out on the work, then another sister, an elders wife, came and said i couldnt go because her daughter needed the lift.

  theres a lot more, it was totally a clique.

  @compound complex. lol I have never heard of that before what a wierd expression?

  I dont like hersheys or American choc. it tastes greasy and hard and doesnt melt in the mouth, youall miss out. if I ever come to the states on a meet I will bring chocolate.

  @sacolton, just for reference Big Ben is not the clock tower, it refers only to the bell. Big Ben is the bell in the clock tower affixed to the houses of Parliament.

  Erm @ Zombie dub. - British English or American English? this offends me lol. how about English English? - This is always the correct form of English by default. anything else is a deviation.

  newborn is one word like teacup or matchstick or doorbell

  and again @ satocon - the earth or ground isnt there in british prongs anymore. - theres nothing in the wall sockets and no wires connected to them. i can stick my finger in or a screwdriver, i can stick a two pronged plug in there, - I know what earthed means but not in our plugs anymore, can someone back me up here?

  i don't easily trust just anybody.

  having said that, there are a few persons here that know my real identity and i'm comfortable with them.. are there certain posters that you trust here?.
