welcome to canada from one immigrant to another !.
calgary is welcoming it's first refugees from syria and iraq so tomorrow i'm going to take all the winter clothing that we have and donate it to a women / children's charity.
it's not much (well, actually, it's a huge pile ... everything from when we first moved over!
Daniel you make an excellent point about location and circumstance. We are very fortunate to live in this country.
Years ago I worked with an Iranian student. He had fled Iran, escaping from the country. He was a very nice person, intelligent, a good worker, and very afraid for his life. He thought the Ayatollah Khomeni would come after him, drag him back, and torture him to death. I doubt many of us have had to live with this kind of fear.
I hope our new Syrian-Canadian citizens will be able to make a good life for themselves here. I worry a bit about their future. I have not heard of any plans past about 4 years. I am not sure we can sustainably support these many people without them getting jobs. I hope they will be able to integrate, use their skills, and if needed, get re-trained to do something they enjoy.

I have a replica of Aragorn's elvish knife and scabbard. It is very cool.
it has become very common for christians to try to disavow the disgusting ethics of the god of the old testament.. this is a dishonest venture.. the capricious, vengeful deity of israel was "the god and father of our lord jesus christ".. putting aside the damaging things he said and did himself, jesus comes with some worrying history.. gentle jesus meek and mild is inseparable from baby-murdering soldiers of jah.

Pagans feel Jews and Christians are atheists. Rather ironic, isn't it?
all religion is flawed because its led by man.
jw is not bad religon if it changed some of its doctrines and thoughts.
if it didnt "shun" members and "worldly people.
All religion is flawed because it's foundation, the Holy Bible, is flawed. And the basics of the Bible are pretty much reflected by the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. That being if you don't sign up and believe how we tell you to believe, you will be judged and punished.
This 'not bad religion' as you call it, destroyed my family. It caused my cousin to refuse a needed blood transfusion after a really bad car accident. She died leaving behind 3 children and a husband. There are others of my family who suffer from depression. My parents had depression for years. Both of them had/have dementia.
If you think this group is going to change, you are mistaken. They are arrogant because they believe they are God's Chosen. No one can tell them they are wrong.

So what scripture mentions the name Superman?
manal al-sharif is a saudi arabian former extremist muslim who was liberalized by the internet and became a women's rights activist in her country.
reading this quote i was struck that her experience is similar to a jehovahs witness experience, including mine, and gives me hope that many more people who are brought up in extremist environments will wake up, no matter what their backgrounds.
the internet is a fabulous thing.

It wasn't until Jesus showed up that hell was introduced. You MUST be born again or you risk, upon death, being judged and if found unacceptable, tortured for all eternity in a burning lake of fire. I suspect this may have been because Christianity wasn't getting the converts they had hoped for. And one of Jesus' goals is outlined in:
Matthew 10:35: "For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." -- NIV.
Yeah, what a swell guy.
did any of you guys disregard the wt recommendations and pursue a career.
if you answer "yes": was your journey easy?
are you happy with the end result?
Yes, I went to College and pursued a career. I'm not sure how to answer your 'was it easy' question. I am fairly intelligent and was able to pass with high honours and acquire work afterwards. I have worked hard but I would never recommend NOT pursuing higher education and a career or one's dream. I can't imagine not working.
Even when I retire, I figure I'll be working at something. I would say that I recommend one remain flexible and adaptive as change is THE one constant in life. The role I perform now at the company I work for is not the role I was hired to do. And I am sure I will have to take on a different role in the near future.
When my bro and I were planning our education after high school, our Mom tried to dissuade us from going citing we would not need careers due to Armageddon's imminence (this was 7-8 years after 1975). Neither one of us listened to her.
I can tell you this. I would have regretted not going to College. That is 100% for sure.
