When we are children, we are told what to believe. I used to believe in God as well as the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus.
But then I grew up.
i have come to the conclusion that there is no god.
period!!!
if there was a loving, righteous, all-knowing, all powerful god up there somewhere, where is he and what good is he???

i would be very interested to hear from you ladies on this one.
i know that the society keeps women in subjugation through the headship cr@p but didn't ahve any sense about hoew prehistoric the attitudes are until the other day when we were driving out of the supermarket car park and my wife spotted a woman dressed in tight shorts (it has been very hot here) and she commented 'they say that women who dress like that dserve to be raped'.
i did a wtf and overreacted 'how can you blame the victim like that - such attitudes give men a lciense to commit rape and make women feel they are to balme if they get raped which in turn means that rape doesn't get reported and it gopes on with impunity.
Misogyny/ subjugation of women/ patriarchy ... one of the key reasons I could never be a JW. I realized this as a teenage girl.
According to Gerda Lerner who has studied the history of women, Patriarchy was a human invention, created in the Bronze Age in an attempt to deal with problems at that time. It was created well before the Bible. She authored a book called "The Creation of Patriarchy" which I am interested in reading. Has anyone here read it?
An interview with Gerda on this subject: http://www.intuition.org/txt/lerner1.htm
"I think it has outlived its usefulness by quite a few centuries already, and you want to remember about that, that it came out of a warfare society, OK? It was a system adapted to a society torn by constant war and destruction, in which stability was the most desired goal." - Gerda Lerner

Everyone is an atheist to some degree as there are thousands of gods. If you don't believe in at least one of them, you're atheist.
i am sure people convery to a religion to find peace and spiritual awakening.
i also bet many convert simply for love.
would you to assist " true love" if it required converting to a particular faith?.
I could posit another question and that is... would you become an atheist for love?

My grandfather gave up Catholicism for his wife, the only girl he ever kissed.
I, on the other hand, would not convert. I see this as a subjugation thing and I'm dead set against stuff like that.
so what are you doing to enjoy yourself?
doesn't have to be for anyone around you, or have anything to do with jw world.
just something that you do for you and only you and that fills your soul (whatever that means).
poopsie... love your emoticon guys!
Right now I am so tied up with getting my Dad's properties cleaned out so they can be sold off I have very little time for anything else but work and that. This is iteration 3 in my life of cleaning out his properties. (I believe the WTS caused my parents to become "do-nothing" people.)
What I love to do is:
- ride horses
- draw, paint, craft
- learn new things, especially anything crafty
- gardening and Permaculture
- cooking and baking
- writing
- listen to music
- sing and dance, especially when no one else is around to hear me or see me
- helping others
- dark rum and coke with lime (which is givin' me ideas here... )
there are numerous similarities between jesus and jehovahs witnesses.
to mention a few:.
1) both suspected they are anointed by god and started preaching work.. 2) both had some ambiguous references (which can be interpreted to suit any conclusion one likes to have) from the scriptures.. 3) friends and family members of both generally believed they were insane (mark 3:21), and religious experts attributed power of satan to the work being accomplished by both (mark 3:22).
More similarities: Matthew 10:35
it has been a long time.. thanks to jw.org, i was reading some jw material (what does the bible teach i believe).
it was the first time reading a "book study" book in many years and i was blown away by the controlling, cultish writing.
this question especially struck me as manipulative: do you believe that we are living in the last days, and why?.

It is a very interesting thing to do to go back and read over the material after you've been out and not listening/reading this tripe for years.
There is definitely a formula. And it is definitely part of an agenda.
I've been told my entire life that Armageddon is real close and that it will be happening any day now. I'm now 51 years old. So far, Armageddon has been one big no show. So with a 51 year benchmark to go with, I can safely conclude that Armageddon ain't happening... ever.
so the new awake is up.. first question..... "how did life begin?.
how would you complete the following sentance?.
life is the result of..... a. evolution.
"Why is it that even some scientifically-minded people have trouble accepting evolution as the origin of life?"
This question right here shows that the Watchtower has no idea what they are talking about. It's quite embarrassing.
when a dub starts to question an elder about this doctrine (at the kh, field circus or wherever), the elder will only need to utter these words: "just watch the video".... .
.
finkelstein said: Answer .... to make a twisted Bullshit story to why nothing has happen in last 100 years to what the WTS. said was going to happen.
Yep. For my entire life (over 50 years now), Armageddon has yet to arrive.
