It seems to me the Bible is about control. Organised religion is about control. Why would the witnesses be any different? :)

Stumbling Your Fellow Brothers
by dig692 ini just felt the need to express my thoughts on the matter of "stumbling others" in the congregation.
they tell you that you are accountable for your own soul and responsible for your own spirituality, and then they tell you that you can't do something if its going to stumble your brother.. if a brother/sister sees me doing something not condemned in the bible but maybe is a matter of conscience and he/she is stumbled...why is that my fault?
what makes me accountable for that?

I agree with cantleave. I see sign of internal conflict in you friend's behaviour. It can only truly be resolved by doing some research. Obviously I don't know your friend, but I am willing to suggest that she is too scared/too lazy/for some other reason can't/won't do research. Knowledge really is power. I think it is very difficult to persuade a person away from beliefs while they are unable or unwilling to do some work on their own. Often this ends up with the person simply countering each argument you raise with the party-line and not really listening, or it ends in a fight and a waste of your energy.
Whether the books cantleave recommends would do any good depends on whether your friend would/could digest them. I haven't read the Cult book but Crisis of Conscience exposes WTS for what it is.

An Apology ..... (of sorts)
by AllTimeJeff inopinions are like certain orifices, everyone has one.. it's only if you insist that yours is the only one in the room that counts that you become like certain orifices....... with that in mind, i wish to offer a small but sincere apology to all members of our unique little community on jwn.
(that even includes perry).
now mind you, i don't apologize for the views i have, esp my political ones.

In the name of Jehovah I forgive you. I may have to shun you though for a bit until I think you're really humiliated. OK you're back.

PREJUDICE---HAVE YOU BEEN AFFECTED BY IT?
by minimus ini was raised in a larger city congregation.
there were many black and white families and there were other nationalities in the area.for the most part, i do not recall seeing obvious prejudice manifest in the congregation.
have you seen or experienced prejudice from congregation members?

A question for all ex jws AND JW's here, btw I'm new too
by EndofMysteries inso far quite dissappointed from what i've seen.
this is very very important, first i"ll address the non/ex jw then i'll address the jw's (jw's scroll down if don't wanna see the first part).
i see so many who have concluded that it was not 'god inspired', a lot of what is being done, and their conscience told them that many things conflicted with jesus teachings and the bible.

I don't see any value in reading the Bible. You might find it useful to leave the damn book alone for while (depending on how long you have been away from the WTS). Maybe when life is settled and you have some equilibrium you will be in a better position to assess the claims made by those who follow this book and form your own view based on research.
