Perversely, I'm very glad they persist with the "Appointed Times of the Nations"(TM) gibberish. If I ever begin to have doubts that I've made the wrong decision (staying out), I remember the Gentile Times stuff and feel a whole lot better.

who says the bible is gods word?i mean who in the bible?.
remember the bible is a whole host of books put together as one by different people than the writers.. did the actual writers cliam their books were inspired by god?.
i only know of pauls claim in timothy, but can he really speak for the rest of the bible writers when he claim "all scripture is inspired of god"?.
...but did they claim the books themselves were from God?
I don't think they explicitly claimed that, no. Looks like its just Paul then (in Timothy), bigging his part up as usual.

I think there are a couple of other bits and pieces that might claim inspiration
The visions of Isaiah (Isaiah 1:2), Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:2) and John (Revelation 1:1) for example explicitly claim divine inspiration for their visions. Others might as well, but I can't be bothered to trawl through my whole bible.
Is this the sort of thing you mean? I think you're right about Luke, he gives the impression that he is doing his best to give an honest account rather than an inspired one.

i'm looking for an answer, and views to a disturbing question i have had for years.. for more than 2 decades, this has bothered me, yet i have been unable to resolve this dilema witin myself.
i hope some of you can help.. over the 40 years i was "in", i have known many "anointed".
most...were single, either by choice, or by the death of a mate.. but their are 2 i have known, who were married.. .
Yeah, this one used to bother me too.
I remember going throught the "Revelation, its Grand Anticlimax is At Hand" book (or whatever it was called) and there being this whole 144,000 = anointed = bride class equation. I couldn't help thinking that if there was a bridegroom (that was supposed to be Jesus, yes?) and a bride and then a heavenly marriage, then after that there was bound to be some sort of heavenly consumation. So, not only did the earthly mate loose the anointed mate, they had to endure the knowledge that they were getting bonked (boinked, whatever!) by the Christ at the same time. Sorry to lower the tone, folks, but I really did used to worry about this sort of rubbish.

greetings fellow posters:.
i've been lurking/posting here for quite a while and i've decided to post a little bit about my past for anybody interested in reading.
here's my experience with the wtbts:.
What finally was the last straw was due to a series of events that took place when I was 18 or 19 years old. This is when I decided to make my departure.
*On edge of seat!*

had this emailed to me the other day... the best church bulletin bloopers.........thank god for church ladies with typewriters.
these sentences actually appeared in church bulletins or.
were announced in church services:.
I also recall, in response to a reading of the verse "I pummel my body, and lead it as a slave", a bro. commenting that he remembered using the "pummel stone" when he was a child, to remove the dead skin from the soles of his feet. After that, whenever I heard that verse I would think of it as "I pumice my body, and lead it as a slave".

where do i start?
my mom and dad had gotten into the jw religion about 23 years ago.
about 5 years ago, my mom fell away from the religon and then eventually ended up divorcing my dad.
Families
I had a friend who sent me a website of JW's and one part that I find quite a lie is "Jehovah Witnesses avoid making rules and regulations beyond those provided in the Scriptures". Please tell me where it says to destroy your family? Tell me where it says to harass people to attend meetings? Tell me where it says that Holidays are not to be celebrated?Right on. The spirit of the bible gets lost under the weight of legalistic over-interpretation. I hope things work out, you seem to be in a difficult situation. Isn't your mother also ill (I hope I remember that correctly, my apologies if not)? This must be emotionally confusing for everyone. Perhaps post how things develop?

it's a shame , but its probably true, i bet there are more ex-witnesses (those who are dis'ed or dont go anymore)who still believe its the truth than those who don't.. what do you think?
I'm with garybuss on this one.
I shudder to think it, but I fear there are a significant number of walkaways, DA'd and DF's who live with the ever present conviction that their violent death at Armageddon(TM) is "at hand"(TM).

well, it's sunday and we've done reading the sunday papers, so thought it might be nice to poll the worldwide community on some important issues.
no, it's not meant to be fluff, i'm serious in inviting opinions from exdubs in many places, so please respond.
this week i've chosen the question especially for the large worldwide da/df community: what is the main reason for you not wanting to return?.
3. Doubts about WTS chronology (like 1914, etc)
Yes, after reading Jonsson's GTR, and then a bit of 6, seeing how the WBTS deliberately misdirect its readership on the issue (eg the let your kingdom come appendix).
6. Other
Personally, I had no direct bad experiences during my periods of attendance (I'm another walkaway, never baptised), but I've read some truly harrowing stories on this site in the past week (since I came across this site), and I see no reasonable reason to disbelive them. Therefore, I do not see God in this organisation, and so I would never go back.
