I know an elder who doesn't want to marry any sister who has kids with any problems. Even grown children who have moved out on their own. He never had kids in his previous marriage (his wife died.) And I guess he just knows his own limitations. That's his business. We all have our baggage to carry, don't we?

Elder won't marry mum because my brother's gay
by iMARX ini know that the elders and all jws have stupid "conscience" decisions to make from time to time, but this topped it for me.. my brother's gay and that's why he left the religion a few years ago.
now my mum wants to get re-married to another brother but the elder that she asked to marry them both declined.
he says that it would bother his conscience too much "because of luke living with you, because he's...ya know...gay!".

I, too, am Italian and lonely, and lost.I, too, seek the comfort and regularity and sense of belonging that I have at any one of the 40,000 Kingdom Halls around the world. I, too, am willing to ignore that voice inside my head that keeps telling me that I'm fooling myself, that the evidence does NOT point to anything, and that short stories that seem to indicate God's blessing on this organization can just as easily be told centering around some other,"worldy" organizationm some church belonging to (gasp!) Babylon the Great, the worls empire of false religion.
But I wouldn't ignore clear directions if I had asked for them!

by highdose ini know that what counts as swearing differs alot from region to region, amongst the words i heard used were "crap, bloody, shit, git, bastard, bitch" and the dubs who used these words would say that they didn't belive they were swear words at all!.

yes. I had gone to a lot of trouble to clean up my speech back when I first learned the "truth." Over the years there have been many responsible brothers who, when with me, felt free to "let their hair down," probably thinking that an ex-worldly pissant like me wouldn't mind, or a a demonstration of their coolness. I found it insulting. These days my own speech has relaxed a bit, but I still see vulgar speech as a product of a lazy mind.

I'm referring to public and other talks being filled with quips, good humor, tidbits of wisdom, etc. Also the helping of others in some distress is more of a "priveledge" to be dispensed by the elders, than a from-the-heart act of human kindness.
Even conversation seems to be a lost art. These people simply parrot words that identify them as a person who has read the last publication. It's nuts!

The latest one to irritate me is the "new light" regarding the "fruitage" of the spirit. No longer are the individual qualities in Galations 5 (love, joy, peace, etc) to be spoken of as the fruitages (plural) of God's spirit, but rather as the fruitage (singular.) There have been a lot of that sort of thing over the years.
Who really cares? Why should something so silly be even bothered with? Isn't that all kind of high-minded and empty? Or have I missed something REALLY important?
