i was just reading a funny thread posted by fallen_princess about stupid jw directives and something about seat saving came up....it reminded me of how i foiled the crime of seat saving at conventions....i would just save every other seat and it usually worked saving every third seat....i mean who walks in and picks a seat where you have to sit next to sombody else??

?...............i loved breaking rules i guess..................oompa.

i remember one time when i was about 17 years old, i wanted to arrange a costume party for the young brothers in the congo around my age.

i suggested it to one of my friends and was told that the elders had advised against it because it could be construed as pagan and masks have their roots in demonism.

of course, i was never shown any biblical proof of this but just that response took the wind out of my sails and i decided to just not go through with it.

At our hall, the sisters weren't allowed to wear shirts with prints on them. An example of this is one time my sister had a shirt that had an anchor with some writing about a yacht club. Another sister pulled us aside and said it was inappropriate to wear that.

Now, I wonder what scripture that was based on.

the drama was just awful.

As a parent of 3 teenage boys-who would DIE if they thought I was going to do something like that-I can say it would have gotten way worse for him at school.

That story would spread through the school like wildfire. The boys would be ruthless to him and the girls would just feel pity.

Girls feeling pity towards you=low self esteem.

I saw him in concert last night! I loved it. It brought back a lot of memories from my teen years. He has aged QUITE well.

When I was a teenager in the early-mid 80's, Rick Springfield was popular . As a teen girl, I was in love with him and his music. The girl who studied with me was quite verbal about not idol-worshipping him or any pop culture personality. And at the time, quite a lot of the literature seemed to have articles about worshipping sports stars, musicians, etc...

Did you know that hanging posters on my bedroom was was just like having a graven image of him. Really? So, I put a poster of him in my closet. For some reason, in my 13 year old mind, that wasn't as bad as having it displayed on my bedroom wall. I felt guilty for wanting to see him in concert and listening to his music.

I look at this now and realize how truly crazy the religion is. It's normal for a teenager to want posters and magazines with their favorite athlete, pop star, rapper or whatever in it. My boys are sports freaks. They all went through a phase where they wanted to have nothing but sports posters and magazine clips on their wall.
