  Who's going to see Minority Report?

  i used to deplore steven speilberg.

  i thought he was a smarmy nothing, who made his way on three good movies...jaws, close encounters, and et.

  even those are really flawed.

  Pretty darn good movie.

  Made some statements about advertising and privacy in the near future. In fact, nearly every scene tells a story of the impact of technology on our lives while telling a pretty good tale in the foreground. Unlike other stories of speculative fiction, it's pretty subtle; it doesn't hit you over the head with its predictions.

  The special effects were also very good. The holograms of his son, and the visions of the precogs looked great, but Spielberg didn't make the special effects the star of the film.

  OK now I sound like an amateur movie critic. Suffice it to say it was worth the price of admission. I'll probably get the DVD so I can disect the scenes.

  if i rode like they've just played i'd be embarassed.. england just finished a match that looked like a sunday morning kick about.. where was their drive and passion?.

  why were there so often unmarked brazilians?.

  As a soccer/football newbie, I have a question.

  On a corner kick at the German end, I saw an American player standing at each end of the goal, holding on to the posts. I admit I haven't seen much soccer, but I've never seen that. What is the purpose? It seems that you're only helping the German goaltender.

  just wanted to share that my cousin watched dateline and although she had faded away, still had guilt about not attending meetings.

  she and i have been writing and tonight she wrote to say that she'd read cofc and feels a lot better.

  lately, i've been in a semi-serious/leaning toward serious dialog with my baby sis about dateline, the wt policy on pedophilia... several related things.

  somehow, it's led me to thinking about chitlin's.

  I was eating dinner at my second family in the Truth's house (didn't everybody have a "second family in the Truth"?) The were fixing chitlins. They smelled like boiling crap, not that I'm overly familiar with the smell of boiling crap, but everyone assured me that my "second mother in the Truth" was always extra thorough in cleaning them.

  I was the only white (though I think it's more a southern thang than a black thang) person there who was brave enough to try them. I got a nice heaping pile, loaded on the hot sauce, and got the fork right up to my lips before the gag reflex kicked in.

  I was terribly embarrassed, and though I fervently reassured the cook that it wasn't a commentary on my confidence in her cooking, I had to get that reeking pile of putrescence the heck off my plate!

  The homemade black forest cake was divine. I made up for the chitlins by eating three pieces of cake.

  ENGLAND ... make us proud !

  the '66 world cup was before my time and black and white replays are great'n'all that but i'd really like a great sporting moment in my lifetime.. this is the best chance to win the cup that we have had in a long time.

  a lot of top teams have gone and if we can get past brazil i think we stand a pretty good chance of lifting the cup.. we have the confidence - we beat argentina and thrashed norway - now it's time to finish the job.. c'mon england !

  Well I must say, I'd rather see the England (so they're England now, and not the UK?) win than the U.S.

  Americans just do not care that much about the World Cup, and it would be a bit of a shame to see the cup won by the one country on earth that really doesn't give a crap about it. It would also not do wonders for America's popularity worldwide--jealousy would run rampant.

  i've posted several times about my unethical partner at work.

  i'd like to share a story and get your viewpoint.. first of all, i have a screensaver on my laptop.

  it is secured with a password.

  Sounds like maybe your IT guys are being lazy. They should be able to set up auditing on their end. Any time a network resource (like your personal folder) is accessed, they can track it. It's too late for this instance, but they could set it up for the future. You may have to start documenting when you're out of the office, so you can prove that it wasn't you who got into the super-duper top secret files and changed them.

  In fact, your IT guys should be able to check today's logs on your email server (assuming you have one). If you closed Outlook before leaving, they'll be able to see when it was opened again.

  If it's a laptop, you should take it with you when you leave. If you share it with your partner, make sure you always log completely out of the computer when you leave, and don't save any important files on the computer; save them to the network in a folder that your partner has no access to.
