  What's with the media and the march

  Oh yeah, compare the WT's "be patient", which they've been using for over a century to cover failed predictions, to someone saying "be patient" about press coverage after two lousy days.

  Every time some moron wants to pat himself on the back for being a free thinker, he picks out the most asinine things to quibble over.

  Just because someone uses the same two words in the same combination does not mean they're using the WT's same tactics. The word 'the' is used very frequently by the Watchtower and Awake magazines. I suppose the next self-appointed Board Devil's Advocate with a Ben Franklin complex will say, "You used "the" in a sentence, just like the WT. How JW of you!"

  SL / Anderson Article in Local Newspaper

  this article was in our local port charlotte, florida paper on thursday (9/26/02).

  it is the first real article this paper has run about any of the jdub "stuff.".

  No, Elsewhere, they're just doing what they always do: Deny, deny, deny. They know they can't deny forever, so they're setting the stage to put all the blame on the local elders.

  I kinda feel sorry for the poor guys. They're following instructions from WT Legal, but they'll be the ones holding the bag at the end of the day.

  i thought that elders made it a point to visit df'd ones like 1 a year to see if they've thought about coming back, etc.

  don't get me wrong, i'm happy they haven't come to see me.

  How do you deal with dub friends?

  i would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their replys to my thread titled "i cant move on", and express my gratitude for your genuine and helpful advise.. i am happy to say that i am certainly in the process of moving on and healing the wounds that have been inflicted by the wt.

  there is only one problem that remains............. i have a few dub friends who i do still consider to be very good friends.

  i made a decision that i would never try to push my discoveries of the curroption within the org on them, and keep our conversations very neutral.

  IBD,

  I'm sorry to say this, but I wouldn't hold out much hope of keeping those friends. They were really good friends, but only within the JW setting. Only three things can happen:

  1) You go back and resume your friendships but are miserable at leading an empty and fake life;

  2) You eventually tell them the truth about the religion and hope that a few will wake up. Those that do can stay your friends, the others will shun you;

  3) Never talk about anything spiritual and watch, mute, while this religion causes them untold anguish and grief. The problem is that, not being able to have a conversation about such a basic and important thing as this, you'll lose the closeness that made them 'really good friends' in the first place. They'll be mere acquaintances.

  When I knew I could never go back, telling my friends was not an option because of family reasons. I gradually pulled away and have now lost contact with all of them. Actually, that's not entirely true. A large number of them have been DFd for various offenses, and I talk to them occasionally. I didn't tell them I no longer believed, in case they went back. Now that I don't care about being exposed, I have been slipping points into conversations.

  but marching against jehovah is not the answer to these problems.

  Assuming you believe the Bible, Moses could prove he spoke for God. Can the society prove that they do?

  Their "proof" is this:

  We have these wacky teachings because God spoke to us. We know God spoke to us because we have these wacky teachings.

  Besides, you didn't say this was a march in opposition to representatives of Jehovah, but in opposition to Jehovah himself. This is the kind of wordplay that the society pulls all the time.

  As has been asked numerous times, why were such sterling characters as Moses, David, Saul--heck just about every ruler they ever had--constantly corrected by humans when they royally ("rulers", "royally" I slay me!) screwed up, but the society throws spears at them?

  Can they be so sure that God is not using people from inside and outside their organization to correct them? Can you?

  When the society hands down a directive, they claim to speak directly for God; when they are called on their numerous mistakes, they suddenly remember that they are not directly inspired. When their egregious lack of concern for little children leads to organized efforts to force them to make common-sense changes, the protesters are now protesting against Jehovah.

  Notice how quickly your false analogy was spotted here. Slyly inserting the society in place of Jehovah, and vice versa, may work with Witnesses who have been taught not to think critically, to ignore their own conscience, and to ignore their heart when something just doesn't sound right, but it won't work here.

  I'm aware that you're trolling for reactions, but I think lurking dubs-n-doubters will see your behavior and recognize the same tricks the next time they ask an honest question about some nonsensical doctrine or pharisaical rule, and a shifty elder tries to equate it with questioning/challenging God Himself.

  Any Writers out There?

  who of you are writers out there?.

  since being a child, people have responded positively to my writing.

  i've written countless items of poetry, but never let them out into the public domain.

  Most successful writers will tell you that the single most important factor in your success is how much you want it--how passionately you NEED to write. An intense love of writing won't guarantee fame and fortune, but if you don't love to write, it pretty much guarantees failure. Writing must be something that you would do without pay, because you frequently will.

  On the talent side, if you are able to unintentionally evoke those kinds of feelings in others, that pretty much answers the question of whether it's any good.

  Closing down that email address wont do any good. Email-borne viruses will use whatever your default mailbox is to propagate. If JT is infected then he needs to clean his computer of the virus, not change email addresses.

  LB, if you post the subject, message, and any attachments of these emails (might also be a good idea to take a look at the email headers, as many of them spoof coming from a different sender) then it should be no problem figuring out which virus/trojan/worm is being sent to you.

  JT, assuming it is your computer sending these viruses, do you have any antivirus software (e.g. Norton or McAfee) installed on your computer? If so, make sure they have their version of real-time monitoring running. It takes up memory (RAM) on your computer, but you need the protection.

  Dutchie, I guess it's a little late now, but you should NEVER open email with an attachment--even if you are certain you know the sender--unless they contacted you ahead of time and said an attachment was on its way.
