Placements and Ministry Hours vs. Conversions
by megs ini am so irritated.
the pioneer who was giving me bible study mailed me the public version of watchtower and awake!
(i'm not doing the bs anymore) this got me thinking... why is more emphasis placed on hours in the ministry and "product placement" than conversion??

I am so irritated. The pioneer who was giving me bible study mailed me the public version of Watchtower and Awake! (I'm not doing the BS anymore) This got me thinking... Why is more emphasis placed on hours in the ministry and "product placement" than conversion?? Isn't that the goal? Are they not trying to convert people so they aren't destroyed in Armageddon which is imminent, coming so very soon, oh so close?? As a "bible based" religion, isn't converting three people in a lifetime more valuable than spending x thousands of hours in service? Look at the parable of the lost sheep; Jesus said that the one lost sheep was more valuable than the 99 who had already been found... So should the emphasis not be switched to conversion rather than hours? To put a corporate slant on it... in the past few years, focus (at least in a lot of successful businesses) has switched from hours worked to productivity... A successful sales person may work 20 hours a week yet be able to book an equal amount of business as the person next to them who works forty hours a week. Is sales person #1 of less value? I would say the opposite, they have a higher conversion level with less labor hours. So is cutting back pioneer hours a first step in that direction? Or is it just to prevent burnout and loss of valuable members of the congregation?

So God exists because a book (the bible) says so? Using a scientific example, the Piltdown man existed for 40 years, it was considered to be every bit as real as the computer screen in front of you... Then evidence became available proving it to be a hoax. So despite it's existence being supported in multiple books by multiple people over an extended period of time, it wasn't true. How is the Bible different?

Why do people use so many derogative, belittling terms on here like....

Hi Reniaa, I've never been a JW, so I have no vested interest other than a friend who's in... I would like to say that a cult is commonly described as a social/religious group whose beliefs are outside of the "mainstream". Secrecy of doctrines or teachings really does not a cult make. I would not say that the WTS keeps everything in full view. For example protecting known pedophiles, flip-flopping on military service doctrines (see Malawi vs. Mexico in the 70's), lying about their reason for being an NGO in the UN, putting forth doctrine based on a 2/3's majority etc. Your perspective seems to be that of a JW, are you an active member? If it is "all in the open", why would reading outside material be discouraged?

Paul Newman takes a few last laps -
by james_woods ini just thought some might like to know the latest about actor and racing driver paul newman -.
lime rock park racetrack was closed down for about an hour and a half today so that he could take a few last laps in his gt1 corvette.. newman has incurable cancer and is not expected to live much past september.. there were not many like him..

I seldom use this word, but Paul Newman has class with a capital "C". If one must look up to a celebrity, few can shine a candle to him. Married to the same woman for 50 years, gives so generously to charity, politically active etc etc. It's very sad to think he won't be with us.

Bill Maher had a funny one liner about a Christian University... Their team should've been called "The Fighting Christy's"

So, you blew your chance to go to college because of JWs? Don't give up!
by cabasilas ini got the jw "bug" as a teenager.
witnesses called at our door when i was nearly 11. my parents are deaf and i was the oldest hearing child, the default interpreter for them in that era before relay services and professional interpreters.
they had no interest in jws, but it started to spark an interest in me.

"Curse of the Flesh Eating Tumour"
by megs inthis really disturbed me... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1571360/fighting-the-curse-of-the-face-eating-tumour.html reading the article, it's hard to say whether it is his religious convictions as a jw that are impeding his seeking treatment or distrust in the medical establishment.
thoughts?

It is a bit over the top, but so are a lot of theories I thought the Kabalarian Society used to promote the flat earth doctrine... but they seem to be focused on changing names.

very few of us ever feel like we fit in Oompa... This too will pass... It will get easier, and days will seem brighter, like a ship, sometimes you have to ride out the storm. You'll get through it.
