  If you believe in nothing, then how do you know JW's are wrong?

  many who leave the witnesses go on to affirm other recognisable sets of beliefs.

  some become christians of various sorts, others tend toward patriotism as a kind of rejection of the anti-patriotic stance of the watchtower, while yet more simply affirm in general the secular values of mainstream society.

  Is the Bible REALLY the "Word of God"?

  it can be picked apart scientifically and it's prophetic claims don't withstand scrutiny.

  surely god could've come up with something more convincing?.

  if the almighty had started genesis by establishing his credentials thoroughly i'd be more inclined to take the rest of the book seriously.

  Hmm, and Adam and Eve apparently weren't "perfect" naturally living forever, apparently they were as mortal as we were, but were sustained by this "tree of life". No eating tree of life, die.

  This is idea that they were "perfect" and we are "imperfect" leading to our dying, doesn't seem heavily supported. It sounds like regularly eating from this tree of life is the trick.

  I'll start eating an apple a day to keep the doctor away, and see how things come out.

  It was only the tree of the knowledge of good and bad that was forbidden to eat. The tree of life was not forbidden. Because they ate from the forbidden tree, they were not allowed to eat from the tree of life. There was only one tree forbidden, not two.

  I don't believe in the Bible, but there is that point of the story.

  I see. I will eat from the "tree of researching one's rants so as not to look like a moron" in the future. The conspiracy stands. God said Man could become like him (God) and had to cut off the life to prevent it. And surely man will not die from eating of the tree, man dies from God giving man the shaft. "Surely you shall die" is "surely I shall kill you".

  HOW do you invision the day of your death...

  i'm a truck driver and thus in one of the highest casulity profession and also ride a motorcycle...will my death be by motor vehicle or natural causes...i wonder sometimes...the moment of death what will it be like...

  IT WAS MY DESTINY. Actually, my family destiny has been fulfilled perfectly. Rather than have a family member die in every war, I've had one avoid/miss just about every war, including myself. Grandpa "missed" WWII and wound up being an intelligence photographer in Japan for a couple years AFTER the war. My dad got a super-good draft number and missed Vietnam. I joined just after Sept. 11, 2001, as a Combat Engineer (one of the most needed combat MOS's in this kind of war), sat out 6 years of global warfare, "almost" went twice, but actually went 0 times. To not get deployed in 6 years as the Army gets "stretched to the breaking point" proves that my family is cursed and none of us were ever meant to go to war. I'm not disappointed, I think I prefer it this way after some time to reflect on my affinity for my various body parts.

  Well, I just got out of the Army National Guard. For the past 6 years, I've imagined it being gloriously on the field of battle, lots of gunfire, explosions, blood and writhing in pain with body parts missing. Now I guess I'll need to make piece with some pussy bullshit civilian-type expiration.

  I'm on Inactive Ready Reserve till 2010 (could still be called up even though I'm "out"), so if Obama pulls a Kerry and loses against all reason, maybe I'll get my chance to die like a man.

  when you look at all the pain and suffering in this world, and then wonder why god decided that mankind should pay for one man's sin, with interest on top of that, it's revolting.. no way can the added pain and suffering of billions of people equal the fault that adam did.. .

  The God of the bible is a big dick. I don't know how the sole creator of all things develops such self-esteem problems, but its pretty sick to torment people into loving you, whether you're the supernatural creator of all things, or anyone for that matter.

  Good thing he gave me free will so I can say so. You're a Big DICK, sir. Thanks for creating me, now leave me the fuck alone Mr. Crazypants.

  Maybe God needs to sit down with Dr. Phil for a few hours to really get his issues out there. That's the only way the healing can begin.

  Diary of a thinking to return ex-Jw

  i thought long and hard about posting this but the mis-information on this site finally persuaded me, i already accept many may not accept what i say on face value and get their appologist pens ready for making sure no pro-witness propaganda slips through the net on this site but here goes....... i've been on this forum for a few months my first post was about how i was thinking of returning to jw's and at my sisters recommendation to look at this site for both sides of the story before taking that step.. i faded from jw's 10/11 years ago now i left my hubby at the time divorced him to going on to have more relationships and kids, i was definately given the impression after asking on this site and with what i read that if i tried to return i might face df or at least a jc but definately a couple of elders questioning me over what i've been upto these last few years - none of these have happened.

  i talked with an old jw friend (yes i do have then and she never shunned me quite happily accepted an offer of coffee from me and my asking for a chat) i told her i was interested in going back and was very frank about what i done in the last 10 years but not sure how returning was done now, she quite happily said she go ask for me to find out.. result!

  she came back this week and said "all i had to do was goto meetings again" and an offer of a study was there for me if i wanted it to explore the open doubts that i had expressed i now had.. not quite the fire and brimstone welcome this site led me to believe would happen.. i will keep you posted with further updates if i feel the need to put them in future.. .

  DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. People will give you heartfelt advice based on their own experience and prejudice. It is your life. I think the sum of "OUR" advice is to keep hold of your own thoughts, don't let JW's or anyone push you around. Social controls and "enforced truth" have nothing to do with God, they are the tools of man.

  I don't want to lose you (or anyone) from the community of Ex-JW's but it would be hypocritical to chastize you and demand loyalty to "US", so I wish you the best. The institution of disgruntled Ex-JWs will always be here when you need us.

  Yeah, I couldn't help but notice God says "man has become like 'one of us'", sounds like a conspiracy to me! Who exactly are god's conspirators?

  God confirms that Satan was telling the truth, and God admits that God lied to Adam and Eve. This is right in the bible, folks. God previously said "you will die" from eating from the tree, nope turns out the tree will cause "live(ing) to time indefinite", God needs to actually keep man from eating, kick him out of the garden, and arrange for Man's death to prevent this. God would have been truthful if he said "I will kill you for trying to be like me".

  There we have it folks!! Satan has certainly gotten a bad rap in this, I think we should send him a card or something. Poor bastard has been the real hero in this saga.
