Before Disneyland went all out for Halloween, it was like any other day except that it was pretty empty since most people were involved in trick or treating. It became known as the perfect day for Witnesses to take their children to the "Magic Kingdom." We took our kids for a number of years in succession and ran into other Witnesses we hadn't seen for a long time. We would always go through the haunted house. Imagine the Hauted House full of Witnesses. That's pretty much what it was like.

Are Faith-based assertions falsifiable?
by braincleaned ini say yes.. common statement from faith: creation proves that god is love.. false.. the circle of life proves the contrary.
love is not the basis for the carnage needed for survival.
any loving creator would have adapted vegetation to fit the needs of all species.. no blood.

I've been enjoying your posts, braincleaned.
One of the hardest to swallow for me is that Adamic sin accounts for "sin, sickness and death," violence in the animal kingdom, harmful bacteria, overpopulation and perhaps Hawaiian nose humming. I would think that this particular faith-based assertion is false, if not impossible, on its face (i.e., no need to prove it false). Yet, at one time, I and many others have believed it to be true.

I don't believe she was, which would make it a rare photo.

Barb, I have this great photo of my parents with Bonnie and Bill swilling cocktails (circa 1960). If only I could find it. When I do, I'll post it to this thread.

The Smoke and Mirrors of the Annual Meeting
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthe annual meeting seems to boil down to an opening talk about an "exciting new" bible museum and a closing talk about an "exciting new" new world translation.
sandwiched in between were the wt summary, a talk about indoctrinating the children fast/furious, and some "trip down memory lane.".
why would this "spiritual feast" seem to be anticlimactic?

I believe the stage is being set for doctrinal and/or organizational "refinements" along the lines of those that were made following the completion of the NWT. The elder arrangement, the "superior authorities" and other changes were introduced either after the completion or after revisions of the NWT. Drastic changes are more palatable if they come about as the result of the more intense examination of the bible involved in translating it. As far as what those changes might be, my guess is that JWN has probably made more intelligent speculation than what "God's spirit-directed organization" will actually come up with. Stay tuned.

by jwfacts inhttp://www.smh.com.au/nsw/religious-boy-fights-court-for-right-to-die-20130917-2tx5u.html.
this is tragic.
the boy is 17, and earlier this year the courts ruled that he was to be forced a transfusion.

I would be dead today if my wallet wasn't knocked far from my body when I was hit by a car. My blood card was the first thing you would see when you opened my wallet. Because had no ID on my person, I was admitted to the Emergency Room and later, surgery, as a John Doe. By the time my wife, who had the advance medical directive from me to refuse blood, found me, blood had already been transfused due to huge blood loss. This was all 4 years before we left the religion. This was one of a few life experiences that contributed to our seeing the light.
I hope this young man has a favorable outcome and, as I did, learn something from the experience. If such is the case, then likely, his parents will be in a better position to clearly reflect on the position they took. If it goes the other way, the misdirected support they get from the congregation will only reinforce the error of their actions.

Blondie: I think it was more of Rutherford's secularization of the religion. If religion is a snare and a racket, Rutherford's group had to look and be perceived less as a religion and more as an organization. Hence, Kingdom Hall instead of church, company instead of congregation, use of the term "publisher," etc. Singing was too religious for JFR.

Franz was the influence behind Knorr reinstating singing. After all, Freddy was a singer (played a little harmonica too).

Although the misfeasance argument raised in Rick Simon's Respondent's Brief was very strong in my opinion, I did wonder why he was raising it (for the first time as far as I can see) on appeal. I had read the trial transcripts and could only detect indirect testimony that would support misfeasance (i.e., elders assigning Candace to work with Kendrick in FS).
It is possible that no elder ever assigned the two to work together. So often the person conducting field service meetings (elder or not) will ask if the publishers have made arrangements to work with other publishers. It was always my experience that chldren were not assigned partners, but it was left up to the adult publishers to determine which pairing of adults the children would work with. Most of the assigning that was done by the conductor involved those who didn't have pre-arrangements.
On the other hand, perhaps one of the elders other than the three that testified at trial had assigned Candace to work with Kendrick. We don't know because it was not brought up at trial.
Little wonder then, that Watchtower attacks the misfeasance argument in its Reply Brief.
The larger issue, in my opinion, is that Watchtower's insistence that the responsibility of care rests primarily with the parents actually works against them. Such a position makes it all the more necessary for the parents to know about any child molester (convicted or not, repentant or not, one time or not) in their midst. Otherwise parents' care of their children is dangerously limited. A policy that withholds this vital information from them is willful and malicious. To say that this policy is scripturally-based is to grossly misrepresent Scripture.
Here's hoping the appellate panel will discern what this case is really about (as the jury did) and, even without considering misfeasance, rule in Candace's favor.
