Council on new BS arrangement - get your barf bucket ready
by DoomVoyager inyesterday (sunday) at the end of the public talk, the speaker took a moment to share with us something he said that he gleaned during the 2008 annual meeting.
(hopefully someone hasn't brought this up already).. it was concerning the new bookstudy arrangements.
i will do my best to quote from memory what he said:.

Do we have any elders on here? "secret letter"
by Muney inrecently my wife (pioneer) told me her friends father (who is an elder) told her about a "secret letter" that wont be read to the congregation and to be kept just to elders was sent out.
apparently it had to do with the changes in the org and the "closeness of the end".
anyone else hear of this letter?

Revelation 11:15-17
by DoomVoyager inthis passage could be used to support trinitarian theology.

I'm not angry.
Both of Jehovah's Witnesses and Trinitarians can use that Scriptures.
That's all. This is why the Trinity interests me. I've made several threads on it during my time here. Specially selected texts can be used to either strongly support or strongly disprove the Trinity, depending on which texts you use. More so than any other doctrine, I find. If I was a believer, I don't even know whether or not I'd believe in a Trinity. Makes more sense to me to just call it all a load of bull and move on with your life.

New article on methods of False Reasoning in the Watchtower
by jwfacts ini have just posted a new article on methods of false reasoning in the watchtower at http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/rhetorical-fallacy.htm.
this discusses rhetorical fallacy, methods such as red herrings, straw man arguments, generalisations etc.. i would welcome any comments or proof reading.
i would particularly like to know of any additional examples that i may have missed.. .

Your site is the best site I've ever seen on JWs. Concise, covers all major issues, not preachy, balanced & rational. Awesome work.
As for this article, you might want to include "Will the Sodomites recieve a resurrection?" under the "changed teachings."

personal Bible study may also be insufficient.
Hey! What are you tryin' to say?
Kidding. Thanks for the references. I see that they used the "and of his Christ" to conclude that both verses refer to Jehovah, and to his being a seperate entity from Christ, which does make some sense.

Interesting scans of new lit - 2009 WT, Oct 2008 KM, and a new tract
by DoomVoyager ini found these articles intriguing.
i'll let them speak for themselves.
the first is from the january 2009 wt; kool-aid edition; second from the october 2008 km, the last is a new tract.. oh, and i apologize for the poor lighting.

Nobody has commented on the WT yet, which is what I found most interesting. They claim they are not expecting a "mass conversion" of non-Christians, and apply "the rest of the men" to mean Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus etc. I see this as a form of damage control to be used against people who point out that JWs have had no success in China, India, or hell, any of the Asian continent. For context, here is the verse in Revelation they are referring to:
20 But the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands, so that they should not worship the demons and the idols of gold and silver and copper and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; 21 and they did not repent of their murders nor of their spiritistic practices nor of their fornication nor of their thefts.
As for the accouncement in the KM, I was confused by it too. In the past, they've issued announcements that any publisher who is holding old literature should bring it in to their congregation library, and the Cong then ships it to Bethel where it can be properly disposed of. (They don't want embarrassing "old light" getting into the wrong hands.) This announcement is the exact opposite of that. However, now that you mention the monetary benefits of having publishers slowly trickle these out into the field and get a little extra money for things printed 20 or 30 years ago, it does make some sense.

For those asking about single people etc, here is the KM article detailing the new "arrangement". See paragraph 2.
They covered that material tonight. Some comments made were, as well as I recall:
"It's a matter of life and death"
"This new arrangement is as real as a command from Jehovah"The speaker himself pointed out that the title of the article includes the word "vital", and then extrapolated on that conclude that anyone who didn't follow this new arrangement to the letter would certainly be destroyed at Armageddon. No fooling.
I got extremely pissed off and left and walked around in the back after that so I probably missed some other nuggets of verbal excrement exuded by the "friends".

Jesus tells kiddies not to play wih penis' or vulvas?
by lovelylil inon the thread about the pdf for the 2003 listening to the great teacher book, i posted about the arguement my hubby and i had over this book when it first came out.
i threw out the 2 copies my kids had and then regretted it because i think this book is very telling about the wt organization and the issue of pedophiles and child molestation.
i wanted to address what happened here too for discussion.. i am not good at copying over texts so perhaps someone else can post here pages 59-60 in this book where sexual content is explained in vivid detail using the terms penis and vulva.

I remember when this book came about, people GUSHED about what a LOVING PROVISION™ it was that the book warned kids exactly how they could protect themselves from MOLESTORS!!! I guess it never occured to them that they shouldn't have to worry about molesters in Joe Hobo's Organization™.
