Where have you been???
holy crow..this professional nba basketball game between the detroit pistons/indiana pacers sure got wild.. i wouldn't have wanted to have my kids their in the stands.
sheesh.... the big melee in detroit was just sooooooooo..upsetting for a basketball fan like myself.this fracas was as ugly as it gets.
now, let me get into how the uprising began.
I am only ever seeing bits & pieces, but it looked to me like the fans started it & the players finished it.
Artest was benched 13 times in his senior year of high school, suspended 10 times in the NBA. He clearly has an anger management problem. 40 % of NBA players have some serious criminal records, not shoplifting, serious stuff involving assault, etc. I heard this on a news show yesterday. Role models? No, they are talented at what they do, but for parents to hold them up to children as some kind of role model, is misplaced IMHO.
Happy birthday to one of my favorite thought provokers!
i fade over 20 years ago.
moved 800 miles from my jw family.
i see them about once a year.
I don't know, but I hope not. That is a trick they are good at, kick a person when they need the support though.
Hugs to you & your family!
my mother just told me that my brother was told by his elders that because he attended my daughter's wedding, he was not going to be allowed any privileges, including "handling the microphones".
my elder friend that also went to the wedding told me he was being deleted too.
Min, I'm sorry your family members & you have been hurt.
Well, for all the trouble it caused I hope it was one of those fun weddings where everyone partied till dawn & had FUN! They really are petty, aren't they.
name is actually gator.
i am not nor was i ever a jw.
i know several who were, and do understand some of the issues and such behind that religious "sect".
Hi Gator, welcome. No high volume prereq, if I don't have something to say, I don't clog up the board :) So, you aren't the only quiet one.
there are always opinions on whether/how much we should dwell on the past.
in my experience with my family, both before and after my exit from jwism, they have continuously told me that i should not dwell on the past.
i admit that i have always had what would seem to be "total recall".
Personally, I believe in "acknowledge, & move on". The moving on is key.
A person can mess up their whole life hanging on to pain & being unhappy. If you can't change it & it is dragging you backwards, & down, what is the point?
JWs always tell you that, because if you dwell in then past, you might remember all the predictions that never came true, etc. It's new light & onward! :)
But they do have a point. I have met people that seem to wear their pain as some kind of a badge, or soemthing, & are still hung up on stuff that happened over 30 years ago. What's the benefit of that? There must be some payoff they are getting out of it, but it just doesn't seem productive or happy to me. Not to mention their families, who have to put up with it.
My philosophy.
peterson was convicted of murdering his unborn son.
the law in 30+ states says that taking the life of an unborn fetus is murder.
would someone please explain how a non-human can be murdered?
It would seem that Lacy's baby was advanced enough that he would have been able to breath air on his own, had he been outside the womb.
me.. a pitcher for the red sox, i think.. how about you?
movie star?
the president?
Myself. Living here. With this very same family that I have.
But as for a job, a rock star .
up until a short time ago (a couple of years maybe), insufficient research had been done on either of these drugs to say what the long term effects were.
only recently has it come out that certain kinds of alcohol (red wine etc) can reduce blood pressure.. so, with this in mind (the fact that they could actually be as bad or harmless as each other), why the heck is marijuana illegal and alcohol fine?.
fmz
It's vice versa to me. I'd take 20 people smoking pot at my house to one sloppy drunk weaving all over the place, slurring their speech, repeating themselves, & just being generally irritating.
I've nothing against a few drinks or a little buzz. But there have been too many alcoholics in my extended family, I can't stand the sight of them anymore.
