  Can't Understand Why This Is Allowed

  i moved to roseburg, oregon.

  the jehovah's witnesses are allowed to set up a display and man it right outside of the local library, and they are there every day and hour the library is open.

  i am [redacted], the director of the douglas county library system and wanted to respond to your website email of december 11, 2015. i have consulted with the county attorneys office about your concern about jehovahs witnesses use of the front porch of the library building in roseburg, and my understanding of the law is as follows.. .

  sometimes i get a strong curiosity to start dabbling into other religions, other faiths, you know?

  really different ones such as islam, judaism, hinduism, etc.. has anyone here looked into something else?

  has your spirituality been satisfied by any other than christianity?.

  if you had to pinpoint the time or experience that finally made you open your eyes, what would it be?.

  i think for me it was the time i saw my dad shun his brother who he had not seen in decades just because he was a da'ed jw.

  i thought to my self "no way jesus would do that.

  In the late 90s/early 2000s we had a special meeting to vote on building a new Hall, because the PO came from a richer congregation and was apparently embarrassed by our humble Hall. There was nothing wrong with it, it was just plain and simple. No one voted to build a new Hall. I mean literally no one, it was unanimous. So the next week we had another special meeting to vote to build a new Hall wherein the PO informed us that Jehovah wanted us to build a new Hall and if we voted no this time we were working against Him. I was like WTF, seriously? So all but about five or six voted to build a new hall.

  We few who were still against arranged a meeting with the elders to discuss what BS this whole thing was. The meeting was cut short by a bit of theatrics when the PO's toadie burst into literal tears to shut us up. After that I did some poking around, realized that the United Nations thing was irredeemably hypocritical, and I've been out ever since,

  ...about funny revenge plots on the jw's?.

  - dressing up properly, going to a random memorial where the people don't know you, and "partaking of the emblems".

  - going to a random kingdom hall where the people don't know you, give a couple "real" jw comments to earn trust / cred., give a third comment that contains the "f" curse in it, then act like nothing happened.

  the washington post published this richard dawkins response to perry's evolution is "just a theory" comment.

  q. texas governor and gop candidate rick perry, at a campaign event this week, told a boy that evolution is just a theory with gaps and that in texas they teach both creationism and evolution.

  Did you hear your Disfellowship Announcement ?

  i got this topic from another forum .

  when i was in my judicial committee (2009); after the decision came to disfellowship me one elder asked "pitchess are you gonna be there to hear your announcement .

  now i said "no i'm moving 75 miles north of los angeles " ( they tried to get me to stay, but thats another topic ).

  Any Tourettes syndrome in your congregation?

  a huge number of jws have mental illnesses.

  i knew someone with a schizophrenic disorder and he would occasionally forget/refuse to take his pills which made for some very embarassing moments at the meetings and on service.

  he would come to our house claiming he is jesus christ in the flesh and would get upset with anyone that didn't believe him.

  I think it's possible to laugh at a funny situation without laughing at the disabled people who caused it. Funny is funny. If that makes me a bad person, then I'm the worst of them all.

  Depressing

  isn't it depressing to believe that this is all there is to life?, an elder told me today that philosophers, apostates, free thinkers and many other enemies of the truth alike do not offer any hope for the future.

  but this is the only organisation offering the hope.. what do you think?, the thought of living for just 70 or 80 yrs and not returning back is very depressing or do some other line of reasonings offer any hope?.

  i am just curious..

  I'd rather have hope for the present than for a promised future that never arrives. The JWs certainly can't offer you that.
