by outofthebox indear gb, .
we have some very old elders in our bod, and they sleep whenever we have a bod meeting.
sometimes we need to take votes but they are even snoring.

Were you rebellious?
by God_Delusion inwhen i was younger (from the moment i could reason and remember), i didn't like going to the meetings, having a weekly bible study or going out on the ministry.
in fact, i didn't like to do any "theocratic" stuff.. i would of course, get beaten up by my loving zealous pioneer mother due to my rebellious nature.. funny thing was, that even from the age of 5, i knew something was wrong with this religion (cult).
at the age of 16, i decided that i simply didn't believe in any of it, but i didn't leave as my mother threatened to make me homeless if i stopped going to the meetings.

A crazy dream I had a while back.
by Elgiard init's weird because i haven't had anything to do with the jws for years now, but i still dream about going to the kh very occasionally.
the last time i dreamed about going there, there was apparently going to be a special meeting where some hugely important news was going to be announced, and my mom begged me to come with her, until i finally caved.
this is weird in itself, because she hasn't had anything to do with the jws for years either, although i think it's possible she could relapse.. anyway, we're at the meeting, and this biker guy comes into the auditorium and starts heckling the speaker.

Did you hear your Disfellowship Announcement ?
by Pitchess Co-Gen ini got this topic from another forum .
when i was in my judicial committee (2009); after the decision came to disfellowship me one elder asked "pitchess are you gonna be there to hear your announcement .
now i said "no i'm moving 75 miles north of los angeles " ( they tried to get me to stay, but thats another topic ).

Could a religion form around the life and teachings of Ghandi?
by gaiagirl inghandi lived a life which many would view as exemplary, and is revered even now as a model humanitarian.
could the stories associated with his life expand over the next several centuries so that a religion based on his life and example would be created?
would future generations tell stories about miracles which he performed, stories which we don't tell because the stories haven't yet been created?

Lunacy on leeches, blood and bone.
by hamsterbait inback in the pre apostasy days of the witchtower:.
leeches cannot be used for medical purposes as we are deliberately feeding them on blood.. the elduhs would take a dim view of couples having sex during the wife's menses, and will take action if it is brought to their attention.. the use of blood and bone meal in the garden is unscriptural.. all the above appeared during the late 70s and early 80s.. all are based on mosaic taboos.
"true, christians are not under the mosaic law, but...".

A lot depends on our frame of reference!
by Bungi Bill ini was reminded of this story after recent discussions on this board about jw speculationref.1984 & 1994. while the following account is not specifically about jehovahs witnesses, it still has some relevance.. this story was recounted by frank koch, in "proceedings", the magazine of the naval institute.
(for those who have heard this one before, please bear with me!).
two battleships assigned to the training squadron had been at sea on maneuvers in heavy weather for several days.

Posting recorded conversations or transcripts on the internet
by InterestedOne ingiven the weird dynamic of conversations with jw's, sometimes you only get the effect of it if you hear a recording of it.
i was wondering if it's illegal to post recorded conversations with them on the internet without their permission.
what about posting a typed-out transcript as long as the speakers are not identified?
