[republic of the philippines].the estimated death toll is approximately 700, or about half the number who perished on the titanic.
i fear that the death toll in the latest cruise-ship disaster could actually be higher than 700. my fear comes from the fact that 700 were officially registered as being on board.

Joseph Campbell's Definition of the Word "Religion"
by Rapunzel incampbell states: "my favorite definition of religion is 'a misinterpretation of mythology.
' and the misinterpretation consists precisely in attributing historical references to symbols which are properly spiritual in their reference.
what a mythic talks about is not something that happened somewhere or will happen somewhere at some time or another; it refers to what is now, and was yesterday, and will be tomorrow, and his forever.

What To Think Of Mr. Scott McClellan?
by Rapunzel inmcclellan has recently published a book that is highly critical of bush and his administration.
mcclellan's book has understandably created a furor within the current presidential administration, an administration that has valued loyalty above all else.. mcclellan was a long-time bush loyalist, he started working for bush when bush was still govenor of texas.
mcclellan helped bush to enter the white house, and then followed bush to washington mcclellan became a spokesman for bush, defending the president on such issues as the war in iraq.

Joseph Campbell On Chronology
by Rapunzel insome of you undoubtedly have heard of joseph campbell, author of such books as the masks of god and the hero with a thousand faces, campbell was a world-famous scholar of mythology and comparative religions.
i am currently reading his book, myths to live by, which i find fascinating.. given the interest in the topic of chronology recently evidenced here, i thought that i might post some of campbell's findings on chronology.
i will quote campbell, who states on page 74 of myths to live by, in achapter entitled the separation of east and west, - "according to many of the mythologies still flourishing in the orient, a world flood occurs inevitably at the termination of every aeon.

Can Hermann Hesse Be Considered A "Prophet."
by Rapunzel ini just finished reading hesse's steppenwolf; and as anyone who has read it can tell you, it is a truly vertiginous book.
it makes the reader dizzy for several reasons, including the fact that it is full of profound psychological, aesthetic, and cultural insights.
it is also dizzying due to its continually shifting narrative perspective.
