Towards the end when I started fading, I'd bring the kids in back to let the play, and I'd play on my Blackberry. Anyone walked in, I quickly slipped it in my pocket, and no one ever noticed.

How do you cope with boredom at meetings?
by MMXIV inwhat did/do you use to cope with boredom at the meetings?.
as sad as this sounds, when i was a kid and desperate for anything to do at a meeting, i used to count the punctuation in each wt study article.
i had a system.

Did you do a fake prayer before eating lunch at the assembly, etc????
by asilentone ini did it many times.
.
-
Robert7
I would usually fake it when necessary, but even when I did say a prayer, I would intentionally do it in such a way to not draw attention to myself in any way. I felt that I would be like the pharisees, trying to look holy in public. So it was supposed to be just between me and god, and I kept it very low key. If any other JW had a problem with it, thinking I didn't pray, that was their problem, I didn't care.

The smaller the world gets, and the more scientific knowledge we gain, the less important religion becomes.
People used to believe god was the cause of the unexplainable, earthquakes, disasters, the rainbow, plagues, etc. We now know scientifically they all occur naturally on their own. The more we learn, the less we need religion.

JWs growing in numbers despite opposition and criticism from apostates and other religious commentators. Why?
by african GB Member ini believe there are now over 7 million jws worldwide(correct me if i am wrong).
what makes this growth possible despite all the exposure on the internet and other media?.
not forgetting court cases and lawsuits.. is this not a sign that perhaps this is the true religion?.
-

3% growth is pretty poor if you ask me, especially for the 'true religion'. Even Muslims doubled in numbers in that period of time in that survey.

What happened to your marriage after you stopped believing?
by JerkhovahsWitless ini know some posters here went through or are going through some painful things right now because of no longer believing when they have a husband / wife that still does.
others were able to free the minds of their spouse.
i'm assuming the latter is a lot more rare.. anyone that wishes to share their story, please do.. i'm looking to pass the info on to someone who doesn't totally believe, but may marry a jw.

I left first, and at first it was hell, but relatively short lived. My wife got all spiritual, put up a fight and started going out in service all the time. In the mean time, the little things I told her about the JWs was slowly sinking in.
There were two major milestones to helping her get out:
1) Reading about Russel, Rutherford, and the history of the JWs on Wikipedia. This was a 'safe' and 'non-apostate' site to research, and her eyes were being opened up to the fact that their history is not all rosy-colored as the WT would have you believe.
2) She stumbled on my copy of Crisis of Conscience, and read it! Curiosity got the best of her...
After reading CofC, I remember so vividly when she walked into my office and said "So what if it's not the Truth... what do we do now"? And the rest was history!
All this took a few months.

Why Are They Called Privileges?
by Quillsky inseems like work to me....... doing the microphones, manning the magazine counter, spending countless (sorry, counted) hours every month knocking on doors.. privileges?.

Dobbie, I was in a similar situation. Not a JC, but due to lack of service time, I couldn't pray at any meeting, read a book study, and I got no other priviledges. So I had nothing! It was great! It made my fade SO much easier!

ASK YOURSELF this question and see what your answer is....
by Terry ini'm going to ask you a question.
but first, i'm going to set the question up properly.. the original christianity became officially established when the catholic church found constantine as its protector and defender in the mid 4th century.. that church grew mighty, powerful and exerted an influence over vast reaches of the earth.. the church had an absolute fetish for anything of nature deemed "holy" that might be a relic of jesus or his apostles or (as time went by) any saint.. this took the form of conserving the true cross, splinters from the true cross (one in the pope's ring!
) the bones of martyrs, robes, chalices, knuckles, fingers, etc.

I agree with what the question is trying to say. Someone mentioned this concept recently on JWN and I realized I never thought of this before in this way. If it is from the all-powerful GOD, then why aren't there clearly the true original scripts so everyone knew what it was without question?
Along that idea, why wasn't the Bible written in a way that can't be misinterpreted, or prove both completely opposite concepts (like supporting and refuting the Trinity)? Even man-made laws (as crazy as they can be) are usually written with such wording so that it is very black-and-white with no misinterpretation.
A truly powerful and wise God who created the Earth and all life has the power to creat the Bible that is known to be by him, and cannot be misinterpreted.

JWs having Facebook Sex - Strongly warned to get off FB at CA yesterday
by shopaholic inso it appears that jws are letting their freaky side come out on fb for everyone to see.. there was talk on the ca yesterday strongly warning all true lovers of jehovah to delete their fb accounts.
the talk was solely about fb.
the speaker mentioned that jws are associating with people that would not associate with in real life, often using the excuse that the person is a relative.

Then he mentioned that all it takes is a crack in your faith and they can take you out of God's organization into Satan's organization.
I am always amazed by comments like this. "The Truth" can be destroyed that easily? A tinly crack, doubt, can make you leave? Comments like this always made me think, and I'm sure add to people's dissonance.
And I love how they don't mention WHY people leave. Just that fact that people leave is enough to be scared of it.

by creativhoney inok so when i finally didnt care, i did attend a jc, but i wanted closure, deep down i actually wanted them to df me.

Interesting how different elders take it. My wife told my elders (I was out of town) that she thinks it's a cult, does not believe in the GB, that this is NOT 'the truth', etc, etc, and the elders did nothing. Never heard from then since, literally, but never got DF'd.
