I don't think so. We have built-in empathy and it's a great guide - all you have to do is look at the impact you have on your fellows (which you need to survive - we are herd animals) for your morality. And, yes, Virginia, life is about balancing individual needs against others' needs. There is no "morality" that is "always right."

Evolution in our case is the survival of the community as well as the individual.

it occured to me that when the new, young elders, ministerial servants and so on take over, they are further and further away from the origin of the witnesses.

when the lies were fresh in the minds of all, when people saw first hand what was done wrong, giving them the reasons to jump ship and enjoy life, without fear of making a mistake, because they had a good idea of the facts.

these things have since been brushed under the carpet and the circuit overseers, elders, ministerial servants and so on are more naive and clueless (in my opinion) than ever.. the same applies to the rank and file witnesses.

Honestly, I find most Alabamians just like any other place: some incredibly generous and kind, some insular and self-righteous. But as a political entity it sure puts itself out there as one of the most intolerant, overbearing, cruel States in the union.

My parents live there, as do other relatives, and they run the same range - from open-minds and tolerance to thinking slavery was maybe ok.

<chills>.. so i sat here and started singing other songs out loud, which i normally don't do even though i live alone and don't have to listen to people begging me to stop singing.. so how do you get those songs out of your head?.

hated guilt-tripping expressions

i always hated when some idiot got up on stage & said "we all have the same amount of hours in the day" than pull a pioneer out of his hat who is a single mother w/kids who works & has a debiliting medical issue.

all designed to make everyone feel like somehow they're playing around & wasting time.

at the dc's or assemblies i also hated when for experiences they would drag up some 90 yr old pio in a wheelchair & some "brother" who works part time but somehow supports a family of 6 and their all pio's.. my thoughts were "what idiot thought this stuff would be encouraging" .

It might be. Only you can know for sure.

Like any ritual, it can be a powerful experience.

Carefully examine the pros and cons.

For me, I already feel free - it doesn't matter if they think my childhood baptism as valid or not.

I also encourage my Mormon relatives to feel free to baptize me in absentia - it hurts me none, and gives them solace.
