  WTF makes you annointed?

  ok, so i have a serious question.

  probably my first on here, but this has always bugged me, and i've never received a satisfactory answer.. how does someone become annointed?

  when i was a child, my grandpa, who was an elder, told me that if you are of the annointed, you just know.

  based on the material below from the faithful and discreet slave, i was wondering if any of you experienced any of this "enlightment" during your jw sojurn.

  based on your pictures, i would have to say you must have been weak in the faith.

  what is puzzling though, is why did michael jackson dissassociate himself just before reaching perfection?

  snowbird: Yeah, McD, I recall their lambasting the Catholic Church for teaching that the Hamitic people were cursed with blackness.

  I lost my post, so here's the short version. Here you go:

  But, as we have seen, the Bible says absolutely nothing about the black descendants of these men being cursed! Yet it was incorrectly assumed that they were.... Even up to a hundred years ago the Catholic Church held the view that blacks were cursed by God. Maxwell explains that this view “apparently survived until 1873 when Pope Pius IX attached an indulgence to a prayer for the ‘wretched Ethiopians in Central Africa that almighty God may at length remove the curse of Cham [Ham] from their hearts.’” ...

  But such teachings have no foundation whatsoever in the Bible. And there were persons in past centuries who showed that the curse uttered by Noah was wrongly being applied to blacks. For example, back in June 1700 Judge Samuel Sewall of Boston explained: “For Canaan is the person cursed three times over, without the mentioning of Cham [Ham]. . . . Whereas the Blackmores [Black race] are not descended of Canaan, but of Cush.”

  Contrast that with the following gem:

  It is generally believed that the curse which Noah pronounced upon Canaan was the origin of the black race. Certain it is that when Noah said, 'Cursed be Canaan, a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren,' he pictured the future of the Colored race. They have been and are a race of servants, but now in the dawn of the twentieth century, we are all coming to see this matter of service in its true light and to find that the only real joy in life is in serving others; not bossing them. There is no servant in the world as good as a good Colored servant, and the joy that he gets from rendering faithful service is one of the purest joys there is in the world. -The Golden Age, July 24, 1929, p. 702

  Not only did the WT criticize the Catholic church for holding the belief until 1873, they said they shoudl have known better because the error was pointed out as early as 1700. Yet the WT held the belief for at least 56 years after the Catholics had abandoned it!

  Hypocrisy is too soft a term.

  Survival of Human Consciousness Beyond Death

  to anyone's knowledge, has there been any scientific research into the question of whether human consciousness can survive beyond death?

  i am referring to research studies conducted by neurologists, neuro-biologists, and neuro-physiologists.

  as far as i know, reputable scientific studies feature such factors as control groups.

  If there were any evidence at all, other than ghost stories, I'd examine it. But frankly everything I have seen thus far requires as much faith as believing that a global flood occured 4000 years ago...

  Do all GB members claim to be anointed?

  does anyone have documented 'evidence' that all of the gb members are anointed, included those appointed to the body in 2005/6?

  as some of the newest members were formally 'nethinim', are we to believe that these men, some of whom are in their 50s, are of the remnant of 144,000, and if so, could this be the reason behind the dropping of 1935?

  A primary reason the 1935 cutoff date was discarded last year was to validate the Governing Body member's claims to anointed status.

  They can now claim to be anointed, no matter their age, and it's not an issue.

  Understanding that being of the anointed implies a serious level of authority from a Scriptural viewpoint, the Society was quick to remind its victims that being of the anointed DOES NOT provide anyone with any special insights (May 1, 2007 WT p.31)... except, presumably, if they are on the GB.

  i just started a new relationship with a wonderful man but i'm fighting the preprogramming that comes from being a dub for 35 years.

  how have other people overcome the inhibitions and issues that come from the ridiculously rigid sexual mindset of the wtbs?

  Virgin here... I could never be promiscuous... but then I thought I could never leave "da troof" and yet here I am, so I guess anything's possible. Not likely though. Frankly, being surrounded by a world of sexually active people is weird and alien to me. Is it strange that I feel no burning desire to probe the mucous membranes of another?

  having never been a jw, what is the feeling of a 'run of the mill' witness towards these sites sympathetic towards the general doctrines of the wts, but calling for some major reforms?.
