  i'm curious as to how far everyone has explored their new found freedom having left the borg.. has anyone been interested in, or interested in becoming, or just vaguely interested in the following - the raelians (they do have good geometry), any ufo cult, rastafarianism, amish, trekkies, the john frum movement, the discordians, buddhists, hindu, scientologist or any other that isn't listed here?

  Today I promised my family aebleskivers, eggs and sausage.

  Aebleskivers require a funny pan, but you can use your favorite pancake batter, or even cornbread batter (my favorite). Although I think I'm going to make sweet potato aebleskivers.

  If you take a nice big link sausage and make three or four deep slits down the length of it, then slice it crosswise and fry it, you get sausage flowers.

  What Advice/ Counsel Are You Glad You Didn't Listen To?

  don't worry about work, your husband will support you.. you are spiritually weak if you go to college.

  (i went to a technical school).

  to pioneer right after highschool.. studying the bible only is "independent research" - ie.

  • Get your kids baptized as soon as possible.
    (If I had, they'd both be DF'd now, and I would have wasted years not being "able" to talk to them.)
  
  
  • If your spouse is "unfaithful," the "theocratic" thing to do is divorce him as fast as possible.
    (What a stupid reason to break up a happy marriage.)
  
  
  • Don't plan for retirement or for a career; Jehovah will provide.
    (That's why we're living in a trailer today, dammit.)
  
  
  • Only spiritually weak people read non-Watchtower books on a regular basis.
    (Fringe scholarship, anyone? Illiterate pseudo-science? Rehashed platitudes? I didn't think so. Hand me that copy of Steel Beach, please.)
  
  
  • Don't allow your children to associate with "worldlies."
    (Yeah, confine their associations to kids with self-righteous parents who won't allow them to come over to our house anyway.)
  
  
  • "Mental health professionals" do not have your best interests at heart. Avoid so-called "therapy."
    (Yeah, suicidal post-partum depression is such a good witness, and so good for your marriage, too.)
  
  
  • Attend every single meeting.
    (Much more important than making sure your children get their homework done and get enough sleep. A peaceful evening at home does nothing to "honor Jehovah." Right.)
  
  
  • Don't give to worldly charities; it's like polishing the brass on the Titanic.
    (No, it's like making sure people aren't unnecessarily miserable.)
  
  
  • Stay politically neutral by not voting, not saluting your country's flag, and not singing your national anthem; otherwise you are a traitor to God's Kingdom.
    (Voter registration workers have repeatedly told me that "non-voters have no right to complain against the government" if they can't be bothered to help select that government.

    Besides, if you aren't a lockstep jingoist, singing your national anthem is one of the most subversive "loyal opposition" things you can do: "This is my song, too, dammit."

    Didn't realize any of that till I left.)

  Pardon me, <Dr.Evil>"One miiiiiillllyun dollars!"</Dr.Evil> invested or even put into savings at a rate even as low as 3% will yield at least $30,000/year -- more than our expenses NOW.

  So I could stop worrying about work, dammit.

  Do you have tofu recipe?

  i just bought tofu recently, i thought i would try it, so i would like to have a very simple tofu recipe.

  First of all, buy the firmest tofu you can get. If it isn't "Extra Firm," put it between two plates and put some weights on top - 2-3 cans of vegetables are about right. Leave it there until there's a puddle of water on the lower plate.

  Now, here are two of our family favorites:

  1. Slice it thin, less than half an inch thick, and bread it exactly as you would your favorite fried fish. Egg, breadcrumbs, and especially SEASONED SALT - the whole bit.
  
  
  2. Buddha's Jewels - looks intimidating, but it's really no more complicated than meat loaf. Where this recipe says "Bragg's Liquid Aminos," use soy sauce - they taste very similar, and Bragg's is routinely used by health-food nuts as a soy sauce substitute.
  
  
  3. Eggplant with Tofu - Haven't tried this, but it looks good as well as simple.
  
  
  4. And you can always use "Tofu" as a search term at Epicurious or Recipezaar.
