I think this one has a bit better scan quality, but the file is also a little bit larger. Also searchable.

Peak Publishers is a completely bogus stat. Average is the only meaningful number.

Cotton wool for beards....
by highdose indoes anyone remember the jw video "the organisation behind the name"?
i remember in there they showed illistrations being set up, photos being taken of it so that artists could paint the illistrations.
somthing that puzzled me was a clip of one of the actors in the illistrations having cotton wool stuck on to his face as a pretend beard... this is a guy... why didn't they just tell him not to shave for a while?.

If you want to be allowed to participate in a drama at the convention you have to shave your real beard and wear a fake one. How stupid is that?

"No organisation for me!" A question for ex JW Christians
by Chalam inobviously the wt is a best a man made organisation and publishing company.
at worst it is far darker.. anyhow, i understand why an exjw would be cautious to join another organisation.. however, god does have one and it is called the church.. .
matthew 16:18 (new international version)18and i tell you that you are peter, and on this rock i will build my church, and the gates of hades will not overcome it.. it is not a denomination or even a religion, it is just the collective of all born again believers who have come to jesus and are build on his foundation.. 1 peter 2:4-5 (new international version) 4as you come to him, the living stonerejected by men but chosen by god and precious to him 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to god through jesus christ.. ephesians 2:19-22 (new international version) .

"Religion is a racket and a snare". If you need community, then join another group of people with the same hobbies or something. Meetup.com has lots of groups that are a lot more fun than a guilt-club.

As much as the children could use the money, it would hardly be fair to the insurance company to make them the victim of this fraud.

Here's the newsweek article quoted in that 1994 Watchtower. I didn't spot any quote-mining on a brief skim of it.

They may not come right out and make a rule that you can't visit with grandchildren (children of your DF children), but they sure as heck load on the guilt about such things, making you feel "weak" for doing such things.
For example - visiting with your grandchildren means your "failing a test of faith":
Watchtower 1988 April 15 p.27 What About Relatives?
13 Cutting off from the Christian congregation does not involve immediate death, so family ties continue. Thus, a man who is disfellowshipped or who disassociates himself may still live at home with his Christian wife and faithful children…
14 The situation is different if the disfellowshipped or disassociated one is a relative living outside the immediate family circle and home. It might be possible to have almost no contact at all with the relative. Even if there were some family matters requiring contact, this certainly would be kept to a minimum, in line with the divine principle: “Quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person [or guilty of another gross sin], . . . not even eating with such a man.”—1 Corinthians 5:11.
15 Understandably, this may be difficult because of emotions and family ties, such as grandparents’ love for their grandchildren. Yet, this is a test of loyalty to God , as stated by the sister quoted on page 26.” -

Switching congregations
by EmptyInside indid any of you start going to another hall if there were problems in your last congregation?
it happens a lot now.
when someone has an unresolved problem, they decide to go to a neighboring congregation..

We've attended a LOT of different congregations. Not that we ever switched because of problems, just that we moved house many times. We were definitely relieved to be out of some of the worst ones.

...And of course, the ones that go hall to hall, sometimes they turn out being the troublemakers....
Yes, like elders who would get removed at one congregation, then move to another and be quickly re-appointed because they knew how to play the system. They would start oppressing people there until they would go too far and get removed again. Repeat, repeat, repeat. One particular elder (who's name was a swear word when I was a teenager) comes to mind. And you know about all the "brother brother's" who would move from the suburban congregations into the inner city congregations to be around "their own type". Racism is alive and well in the congregations.
