Skip the bourbon- go for Johnny Walker Black (or Gold or Blue if you have the coin) for a blend or Lagavulin for a single malt. Cant go wrong.

Stop college or keep plugging on?...opinions please.
by FreedomFrog inhere's my situation...i'm doing college online because i can't very well do college the traditional way with a 2 year old.
anyway, my computer has been acting really funny and it's not reliable anymore.
my ex worked on it for almost 4 hours and the darn thing still crashes saying my "virtual" memory is too low.

Everyones situation is different but, my experience (I went to a "correspondence" college while working full time, my wife went to regular college full time) is that life tends to get more hectic, not less. While life with a two year old is hectic, life with an 8 year old is more. However, my wife and I helped each other and so your situation is different. The job placement opportunities and assistance that a typical 4 year school provide are extremely helpful. However a correspondence or online school can be useful to knock out some of the more typical, entry level college courses (English 101, Psych 101, etc.) so that when you go to the more expensive 4 year school you can concentrate on more core curriculum.

Has anyone seen this research on 607 and the Watchtower?
by lurker ini was recently searching the web for information on 607 to discuss with my wife and i came up with this.
http://www.jehovahsjudgment.co.uk/607/default.html these people say that they are proving the watchtowers 607 date correct.
i am convinced that the watchtower is wrong because of all the other things that i have researched but i would welcome any feedback.

Lurker- one of us has to get a new name. I volunteer.
For some, the 607 thing is just a lot of incomprehesible numbers anyway. If it was dropped it would not be any big deal. For me though, when I read Randy Waters essay on Ray Franz researching the subject for the Aid book and being disappointed that there was little or no secular evidence to support 607- it was the start of the end for me.
Then I went and read the Aid book article on Chronology and it was obvious that Ray did what was stated in the essay- spent most of the type arguing against every line of evidence that the destruction of Jerusalem was in 586, and then cobbled together very little and very weak proof for 607. Then I took the Insight book and compared the Chronology article line by line and I saw that they eliminated most of his argumentation against the evidence for 586. The editing basically ignored the problem- something Ray could not do.
A lot of JW theology is based on 1914 (time of the end, appointment of FDS, worldwide preaching work, etc) If 607 is a forced doctrine then so is 1914... and it all fell apart for me after that.

NOT AGAIN! That's right folks, once again we are now 'very close' 2 the end
by needproof ini have received word that we are now 'very, very close'.
at the sunday meeting, according to my trusted source, the speaker actually said that 'it is no longer years, nor months - yet weeks and days'.
so they need you back, now!

"Concerning that day or hour no one knows, not the angels or the son but only the father"
Why do they always forget that and start spouting about when the end is coming???

Lurkers! How do you put up with it?
by PopeOfEruke ini just cannot understand how any one in their right mind can read the experiences here concerning the wachtower society's false claims, lies, trickery and deceit, and the example shown by the so-called "elders" in treating the flock with disdain and cruelty, and still stay a jehovah's witness.. lurkers, how can you do that?
do you simply dismiss all the evidence?
have any of you experienced such evil acts personally and still stay connected to the jw's?.

Since I picked the screen name lrkr, I guess I'm obligated to respond (will have to change this name one of these days)
In a word, people. The people in the org are good friends of mine, family are all good people (and very JW). The thought of losing these relationships pushes me to put up a fascade. But that gets more and more difficult. Going in service and asking people to study and become a JW was the first difficulty. I just didn't want to subject them to it. That feeling of "I just cant anymore" progressed to parts, commenting, conducting the BS (esp in the Revelation/Imagination book), and finally to just sitting through meetings.
I suppose lurking is the first step in a journey. Growth is good. Lurking is the first step.

If you really want to avoid DFing cancel the membership before the meeting with the 2. Say that their concern moved you to your senses and be done with the issue. Anything else carries a high risk of DFment. (You can rejoin later, just tell everyone to keep their trap shut.)

Fader's update on the wife.

she acts like she hopes i come back to the meetings but.
she doesn't really expect it.

If possible, help your wife to establish social ties outside the org. I know that our social ties outside have not only helped, but quickened our fade. As you know, one of the strongest control points that the organization has is social interaction.

Disfellowshipping smokers is an outrage!
by yaddayadda inhow does the society scripturally justify taking the ultra-harsh measure of disfellowshipping and shunning persons who merely enjoy smoking a few cigarettes a day?
in what way is mild smoking a gross sin that is deserving of such a harsh punishment?
how on earth does the society make the connection between the scriptural exhortation to 'cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit' (2 cor 7:1 & 2) to taking the extremely harsh measure of denying a smoker the right to any contact with their fellow congregation members, friends, and jw family?

How about DFing people for consuming too much saturated fats, eating at Mc Ds too much, not exercising, having a stressful lifestyle. All of these have proven health effects- same as smoking.
But really, what do you all expect, you can be DF'd for what you think (like thinking that the WTS is not the one channel of God) so being DFd for smoking is not the most shocking thing that happens

Very simple- operating costs in NYC are 2-4 times more than in the suburban country areas of Wallkill and Patterson. (Just try getting a truck in to Brooklyn and you'll understand)
