Do you use a dictionary?
by compound complex inin my work, i rely upon google for quick answers on definition (denotation), pronunciation (audio), etymology, shades of meaning (connotation), etc.. what i really mean is, do you use an actual unabridged websters, the one you get a hernia lifting?
i ask because, last night, i was tired of fighting with my two ailing computers and decided to pull the big book off the shelf.
it was great, hearkening back to olden times -- childhood -- when i read real books and periodicals and wrote unknown words into a notepad (the paper sort) and pored over old noah's offerings.. your thoughts?.

My wife and I are big Scrabble players. We are constantly using the dictionary to not only check the spelling of words but to learn the definitions of words we don't know. WE do that when reading books too . Peace out, Mr . FLIPper -

I'll expand on Desirous of Changes takes :
Kingdom hall take overs by WT Society are beautiful !
Traveling 30 miles out of the way to meetings is beautiful !
WT Child abuse policies are beautiful - we love children !
No blood transfusion policies are beautiful - we're faithful to Jah !
Shunning inactive JW relatives is beautiful ! Makes em' want to come back !
Not going to college is beautiful ! We get higher education reading WT !
Getting unjust treatment from elders is beautiful ! Teaches humility !
Thanks Desirous for the idea . You all get the point. JW's are CONDITIONED to think that everything the WT Society does for them has a good or positive motive behind it. It's ridiculous how naïve they are. It may kill them someday.
WT Society might tell them, " To show your faithfulness to Jehovah's loving organization we want you to jump off this high cliff into the ocean ! " And as JW's are jumping they'll be saying, " There's always the resurrection ! " They are just SOOO deluded and deceived by mind control that their brain neurotransmitters are totally shut down to see anything negative about the WT Society or it's leaders. Quite sad actually

CRAZY GUY- It's more like - " millions now living will all die " . More accurate anyway. LOL. Peace out and Merry x-mas !
P.S. I'm big into studying Ancestry.com and you know the one common denominator all my ancestors share in researching almost 1,000 years back ? Yep. They all died ! I haven't found one yet that doesn't have a date of death, imagine that ? Perhaps the WT Society was wrong after all. Jeez.

My wife and I watched this last night on Xfinity on demand - excellent ! And to have people like Mike Rinder on there who experienced things at the top of the Scientology organization and who is still being shunned by his daughters as many of us are- really hit home. I'm glad Leah made this into a series so if people miss one show- they can catch another one. These abuses need to be exposed for mainstream America to see it.
I'd love to see the same thing happen to the WT Society but I believe it would take a popular celebrity or celebrities who are Ex-JW's with lots of money in order for people to listen, wake up,and pay attention. And there just aren't that many EX-JW celebrities out there that would have the courage to do this at present. Who knows ? Barbara - Maybe you could get with Steve Hassan and work out some kind of widescale media exposure of the WT Society. I know you've done it before on Dateline- perhaps we could get some connections going . What do you think ? Peace out, Mr. Flipper

FEDUP- Exactly, I feel the same as you. My wife and I watched Leah's show last night on xfinity on demand and we both thought it was outstanding indeed. Very well done, very professional. And to get people like Mike Rinder on there who had been at the top of the Scientology food chain to talk about the physical and psychological abuse and how even his two Scientology daughters still shun him- I got tears in my eyes because my two JW daughters have shunned me for 13 years now ! This is the same shit- different cult.
And it needs to be exposed. It's criminal. I'm glad Leah has this as a series so if people miss one episode they can tune into other episodes. I wish Jehovah's Witnesses would be exposed like this but the big problem is the general public will pay attention to the Scientology scandals more than JW scandals due to lots of Hollywood glitz and glamour being a part of Scientology. What " stars " or " celebrities " do JW's have that would do what Leah is doing ? George Benson ? I think not. Serena Williams ? Nope. She's not even officially baptized as a JW. Prince ? He's dead.
It will take a person of STRONG ethics and moral character to expose the WT Society and it would need to be somebody that the main media looks up to as a celebrity or a so-called " guru " or " expert " on these subjects. I think if Steve Hassan was able to get some celebrity ex-JW's to expose the WT Society's practices of shunning, blood transfusions, or child abuse practices to go on a show- perhaps it would get some attention. But even Hassan may want to avoid lawsuits from the WT Society as other celebrities would. It's going to take someone very well known with a shitload of money to get this message out to mainstream America . In order to get people to wake up and pay attention

I have a lot of admiration for Leah Remini to put this together. Takes a lot of courage after what she went through being abused by the Scientology cult herself. My wife and I read her book . Outstanding, I highly recommend reading it if you are able to get a copy. I didn't watch this last night- but I intend to watch it tonight or tomorrow on Xfinity on demand on cable . Nice feature to have to catch shows we missed

When I hear a JW say " even IF this system goes on " - I usually tell them right after they say that - " oh, don't worry it WILL go on. " I was telling my older JW dad that I'd get some stuff paid off in about 3 years and he said, " this system may not be here still ".
My reply was, " Yeah dad, it will be here still, I'm sure of it. " I truly believe the WT Society is criminal in making these older JW's believe they won't die. I mean - Jesus Christ- look at em' all ! With wrinkles and growing scales ? I mean can you imagine the cognizant dissonance 80 to 90 year old JW's are experiencing right now ? It's like , " Oh shit. Paradise hasn't come yet and I'm dying. WTF is happening ? " You KNOW that stuff has to be playing out in their collective minds right now . Very sad. 8 million people were lied to believing they'd live forever and not have to die

I agree the laws need to be changed in Canada for these types of situations and ALSO in the United States . Problem here in the States is religion in general is viewed as a " sacred cow " that can do no wrong or can't be touched in the name of alleged " freedom of religion " . Which of course I think I is ridiculous. What if practicing that " freedom of religion " causes thousands of deaths ? Then who gets held accountable ? It's usually not religious leaders. It usually ends up being no one held accountable. Just another reason I am so against organized religion. Religion literally gets away with murder in most societies -

Indeed Happy Thanksgiving to all of you ! Thanks for starting the thread ttdtt. Tomorrow we're having about 16 friends and relatives over to our house because that's when folks are able to get together with schedules and everything for a meal . Should be lots of fun as everybody is bringing something to the party- either food, wine, beer, desert, etc. We will have the wood stove burning as nights are getting cold now. Have fun everyone and RELAX ! We all deserve it ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper -

I agree with Wing Commander's comment " it's not about " putting Jehovah to the test " , as the organization doesn't equate to Jehovah " . Totally.
But the problem is that your mom THINKS that the organization does equate to " Jehovahs " views. I can tell from her comments to you that she's still deeply mind controlled because she thinks if you just come back you'll get answers to all of your questions - which is not true. You'll just end up with more questions and insanity after the elders fumble around trying to answer you.
It may be that in order to keep the peace you might have to just tell your mom " I have my views, you have your views - I respect your right to have your views , please respect my right to have my views " . JW's are really good at not respecting our personal boundaries. Hang in there
