  Older JW: not happy

  this week i visited my sick father in law.. then an old elder from my far away congregation came in for coffee.

  did not see him in 15 years.. nice chat.

  had a lot to say, is alone, his sick wife disabled and away from home.. he told me: "living alone is so hard.

  Great point you make Gemmel. I have some aging JW siblings still in the Witnesses , some who are going through health problems. As an EX- JW I'm very conservative with my money - however some of my JW older siblings are not. I would imagine they still think the " end " is coming, but in another 10 or 15 years, they'll all be firmly in their 80's - I wonder what they'll be thinking then. The WT Society is evil in that they've made SO much money off of older JW's who were given these false hopes of " living forever in a paradise earth " - to me it has always been just a marketing tool used by WT leaders to extort millions of $$$$ from aging JW's ! Pretty disgusting and sad

  It’s My Anniversary!

  it was the day of the kool-aid issue of the wt!

  Are JWs capable of a genuine discussion?

  i was just pondering whether jws are capable of having a calm, in depth discussion about religious or faith topics?.

  i have just finished listening to a great podcast by "dogma debate" (dan) episode 333. this fantastic, in-depth conversation between a theist and an atheist was a masterful example of how a dignified conversation can take place without it resorting to abruptness or even nastiness.. jws on the other hand seem incapable of having such discussion without ending up in the following ways:.

  1)they get dogmatic and defensive if a differing view is presented.. 2)if the conversation doesn't go their way, they cut it short saying something like "well, we had better agree to disagree" or the like.. so why the arrogance?

  since blondie seems to still be on sabbatical, i'll take the liberty of highlighting a couple of "gems" from this week's upcoming study, from the article "reject worldly thinking".. from paragraph 12:.

  " Craving to control others and be admired " . Jesus. Talk about projection and the pot calling the kettle black. The Governing Body are all about wanting to control others and soaking up all the admiration and adulation from JW's that they can. Hypocrites

  My younger brother officially Disassociated today

  just wanted to share this with you as it's kind of got me worried.

  my brother who was also raised in "the truth™" met me in town today for a coffee.

  Wow. Pale- I agree with Carla for sure here. I would get on the phone in a hot second to Social Services or whoever is employing your brother's caregiver. I don't think it's legal or it's any of the elders business to interfere with your brothers caregiver situation. It's not their call or decision who is giving care to your brother . It's the decision of the caregiver's employer. I do think it's tampering and breaking the law.

  And the elder who told your brother , " We miss you at the KH. ( They say that to everyone ) Can we come and see you to see if we can help in any way ? ( They say that to everyone who leaves ) I don't think you UNDERSTAND what dissassociating means ."

  They don't say that last sentence to everyone. To me the elders are essentially telling your brother in a subtle way that due to his Asperger's - he doesn't know what he's doing and they are trying to take his free will away from him. Or it's manipulating his view of his ability to think for himself and make his own decisions here. I don't think it's " nice " at all what these elders are doing to him. They are using his Aspergers against him as a crutch telling him that he " doesn't understand " - when in fact- he does understand and it's HIS right as an adult to make his own decision here, not the elders right. Gotta watch these elders man, they are smarmy, unethical creatures who will do anything to coerce an unsuspecting prey back into the JW cult. Just sayin' here bro. Don't let these elders control your brothers destiny if you can help it. I do not think their motives are good

  Best way to deal with anger at the GB while waking up?

  good morning everyone , .

  i am wondering how people have personally delt with the anger at the gb when waking up and realizing it’s a scam, lie , and it’s awfully depressing .

  i have had difficulty concentrating at work , have had an emotional roller coaster between okay days and awful days.

  COVERTS- Hey man, what you are experiencing is totally normal. Many of us, including myself , felt really angry after exiting the JW's and when we started discovering the lies and deceit. Don't beat yourself up over it. In reality it shows you actually have a good conscience, it shows you recognize injustice when you see it and that you've taken responsibility within yourself in action to not support the unjust ways of the GB anymore by stopping the attending of meetings.

  I stopped attending in 2003 at age 44 and I was a born in from birth. A few years later in 2007 when I found out how screwed up the GB's child abuse policies were and how some victims and their families had been disfellowshipped for reporting child abuse to the police- my head about exploded - I was so angry ! To think that the GB had given out instructions to elders to first report child abuse to WT legal , and ONLY go to the police once instructed by WT legal - to me the jig was up- the leaders of this JW organization have no moral or ethical character whatsoever. It's all about outward appearance, saving themselves huge lawsuits, and consolidating and keeping information from rank & file JW's in the congregations. And it's about consolidating power over those same JW's.

  As others say here it gets better in time in how to deal with the anger. For me personally , it helped talking with other EX-JW's who had similar experiences like myself being emotionally and verbally abused by elders. Also I took up playing guitar and writing songs about injustices in religion and politics. Also - became proactive in telling anyone who wanted to listen about these injustices that are occurring inside the JW organization , it helped me get the " lead " out and let off steam. After being out 14 years I've gradually lost the cult mindset and see the world in a critical thinking fashion which has built my self esteem back up after the WT Society lead by the GB tried to steal it away from me all these years. You'll be successful my friend, just have to keep informing yourself about these things. It's good you are researching, it reconfirms that you are doing the right thing. Access to information is everything- because all we ever knew before was the WT Society's slanted view of things giving us tunnel vision. Keep on keeping on man.   for almost 12 years now, i have been coming to this site on a regular basis and in the last 5, i “faded out”.

  i never regretted this and never will.

  unfortunately though, yesterday, i realized that, until i can publically tell all my old acquaintances why i have left, i will never be truly free.

  JOHN DAVIS- Good points you make. Good to point out that inadvertently someone may copy someone's speech at times . Being a songwriter on the side myself , occasionally inadvertently I may write a song that reminds people of chords used in another song- but it's never intentional. Many times speakers, poets, or musicians may have similar thoughts to express - a crossover is bound to happen unintentionally sometimes. Only so many words, only so many chords.

  SIMON- Good points you make. I think color of skin is used way too much in headlines , yes. However racism is a real problem not only in the USA , but across the universe. Your statement in regards that you don't see many people actually agreeing with MLK's quote , " Many people may say they do but then support the policies and parties that are completely opposed to it. " Indeed, so true. Yet each person will have to deal with the consequences of their decisions that they stand by - no matter what party or policy they support. Take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

  MILLIE- I like that quote you mentioned from MLK. Very , very true. We are in the same boat now- that's why this divided country needs to come together to work together to rid ourselves of these racial divisions which seem to draw lines in the sand between political party's .

  HECCE- Whether or not he borrowed words from someone else's speech or not does not bother me. What bothers me is how many in this country ignore what his speech was about in following his suggestions.

  SIMON- Great quote by MLK. Thanks for posting it . " I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. " I agree completely
