I felt very angry several years after I left the JW cult. I was mad when I left in 2003, but by 2006 and 2007 my anger intensified when I learned of the child abuse cases the WT Society was hiding from the public and then learned that WT leaders entire motives have been about pulling a scam or wool over JW's eyes and the public in order to profit financially.
I still get angry- but I don't let it consume my life. I channel my energies into music, even writing songs about my JW cult experience and try to assist others to move on in a positive way in life. I actually have a deep and abiding feeling of relief, curiously enough - that because of the whole thing being a scam I no longer live in fear or guilt due to the misinformation and false promises the WT Society tries to capture people with. It frees me to go live my life HOW I want without anything holding me back anymore. The big bad dream is not true. No such thing as " Armageddon " or " end of the world " - so I actually find that really freeing !
I have no feelings of " sadness " over there not being a " paradise " because years before I exited the Witnesses I feel that within myself I actually stopped believing in it- so putting two and two together after I actually got out - it all started making sense to me about the deception the WT Society was pulling over on people all these years. Cherish your freedom of mind people ! It's the unwitting " gift " that we possess that the WT Society was unable to take away from us ! It's priceless

DONE4GOOD- Good points you make. I mean I know I've messed up in my life sometimes- but I'd like to think I believe in the greater good of mankind also. Lennon certainly showed that he valued the greater good of mankind through the songs he wrote and what he protested for in standing up to the government at times.
SMIDDY- I looked at the young man with the dark hair in a tux in the lower left hand side of the screen at the 1 minute mark of Lennon's performance of Imagine on this page - I don't believe that was the same guy who killed him about 6 or 7 years later. No, I don't think so. I've seen pictures of the killer Mark David Chapman in the mid 1970's and he was very heavy, rather slovenly and sloppy looking actually with glasses , and had lighter colored brown hair - didn't look anything like this guy you mention here. Can you imagine if Lennon's killer had been stalking him for years and years - how creepy would THAT be ? Gives me the chills just thinking about it. IOWNMYLIFE- Thanks Marina for posting that interesting link about John and the Monday Night Football connection regarding the announcement of his death. That is how I found out about Lennon's death was by watching Howard Cosell announce it. I just sat there stunned in disbelief at age 21 back in 1980. I grew up with groups like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin as my heroes and since Zeppelin's drummer John Bonham had just died a couple months earlier at age 33 with Led Zeppelin disbanding - my winter of 1980 was incredibly morose. Tragedy to two of my favorite bands months apart. Reading your link brought tears to my eyes once again helping me appreciate how much the Beatles meant to me.
LOVEUNIHATEXAMS- Beautiful Boy really was a very nice song Lennon wrote for his son. Lots of love in that song.
WATSON- " These guys helped me keep my sanity ". You and me both my friend. If it wasn't for having The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues , and rock & roll music in general I may have gone crazy as a teenager and ran away from home from my domineering elder dad's tight fisted regime and rules . Music helped me to tune out all the idiotic controlling rhetoric spewing out of the WT Society's leaders mouths. Helped me to ground myself into reality of a freedom thinking mind. it's possibly one of the big reasons I have such a freedom thinking mind today- is from listening to music from groups like these over the years ! I was born in the Witnesses also and my elder dad said the same thing to me that your JW parents said to you, " As long as you are living under my roof- you'll do as I say. " My dad in a nutshell. I was independent thinking as you are so my dad's lingo went over like a lead balloon with me.
Your statement, " I saw what they can do to an informed decision. NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. " Exactly, I totally agree. Our freedom of mind and awareness that the JW's are a mind control cult - is OUR salvation away from fear and guilt indoctrination from the WT Society. No need for fear anymore. The big bad dream isn't true, no destruction at a fantasy " Armageddon " - so we can go live our life !
I too appreciate Simon's board here to help us fight off these " cancers " in our life seeking to take away our freedom of mind. To your statement, " To others in the same situation I was, hang in there, don't despair, let reason be your weapon, time is on our side. " So VERY true.
