When I was a child, I was not allowed to watch wrestling. It was against my relgion even though my brothers and I would watch it whenever we got the chance and Hulk Hogan was by far my favorite wrestler. Fast forward 25 years and JWs are now posting fanpics of him on their instagram accounts. Odd.

JW.org to be regarded as fulfillment of the signs of the last days.
by jwfacts ini struggled as a jw to accept that the good news of the kingdom was ever going to be preached in all the inhabited world by jws, as there were many parts of the world with few to no jws.
there are not enough to cover the 3 billion plus people in asia to allow everyone to get a chance to hear the message.
it also was offensive to me that jehovah would kill those billions that had never had a chance to accept the watchtower message.

Dont' the Witnesses claim Matthew 24:14 has already been fulfilled?
Seven or eight years ago I was copied on an email that was making the rounds in the JW world. The Witnesses were all excited because some Bethel speaker at an assembly had said Matthew 24:14 had been fulfillied. I had only been inactive a few year then and I went online to see if I could verify it. That's what first brought me to this website. If I remember correctly, the consensus here was that the Bethel speaker was saying nothing new.

jw.org madness
by Gorbatchov inmore and more jw.org special campain pictures made by the r&f flush over the internet.. it's crazy how this jw.org madness becomes a phallus inside the witness world.. observing it from some distance, it is clear: jw.org is the central theme of the current witness beliefs.
every step they make, is for promoting jw.org.
when they speak, they only speak about jw.org.

It's weird they're all gaga over a website. I mean, big wup, everyone has a website
It speaks to the boredom of the average JW and the monotony of their lives. The same applies to the ridiculous reactions at the international assemblies. These people are bored and repressed. A reaction to something new or any opportunity to express themselves gets overdone.

TD,
You may not remember but we exchanged PMs probably around two years ago. The first home I owned, the one with mostly older neighbors, was in your neck of the woods. I found that the people out there generally liked to be left alone, though, at least more so than the people from my home state.

Do you think there is some racial animus?
Not really. I wouldn't call it that. It's not like anyone has been outright hostile towards me. I imagine there are a lot of factors at play.
My current neighborhood in squarely in the midst of suburbia and is populated by the type of people seeking an enclave and wanting to get away from the inner city. If there's a burglary 5 miles away everyone is going to hear about it. Neighborhood watch meetings will probably be convened. I don't really live here by choice. My office is in this town and I don't see the point in living in the city and having a reverse commute.
The neighborhood website I mentioned earlier has threads started by neighbors warning of the dangers of hiring "illegals" to mow your lawn. In other words, it wouldn't surprise me if some of these folks make assumptions based on their paranoia and preconceived notions of me based on my race, marital status, age, etc. I 'm certainly not trying to imply that the reaction is simply a product of racism.

"My Husband is Poisoning Me!" Judicial Committee number 256
by BucketShopBill ini pulled up the notes from one of the more weird judical committe topics, this is the garbage your elders had to handle!.
the mind games played by one of the elderettes come's to mind, she was speaking to a sister that was suffering from severe anxiety and helped our depressed sister draw the conclusion that "sister depressed's husband is trying to poisoning her!
" off goes this once pretty and smart woman, she went to college and got her license to draw blood because she wanted to test it for arsenic and polonium (around the time that russian guy got off ed by vladimir putin).

My dad hit a phase where he'd tell anyone who'd listen that my mother was poisoning him. Thankfully, nobody really takes him seriously anymore as he's paranoid, has no friends and likely suffers from a host of mental illnesses.
I imagine elders hear a lot of weird crap and it must be funny looking back on it. Some of it is sad, though. There was a JW family who called the elders because they had a son who was supposedly under the influence of demons. The kid was hearing voices telling him to kill his mother. The elders prayed with the family and encouraged them to throw away any possessions that might have a tie to spiritism. The kid should have immediately been put under medical care as he was clearly exhibiting symptoms of mental illness, perhaps schizophrenia.
Instead, they sent a welder and a truck driver to attend to a medical emergency.

Single white guy here. My experience has been that my neighbors have zero interest in getting to know me, except for one lady who's outgoing towards her neighbors, and introduced herself when I moved in. The others seem to intentionally ignore me and never introduce themselves even though I try to always look approachable and friendly. That being said, I'm too shy to introduce myself to them, so I can't really claim that I tried to say "hello" and they gave me the cold shoulder.
Sounds a lot like what I've experienced.

This is life in the United states. People have their life and mingle very little with neighbors, maybe a brief "Hello" or small talk.
I was making small talk with a co-worker a few days ago, a guy in his 60s, and he mentioned in passing that he couldn't imagine not knowing who his neighbors were. He wasn't talking about me and I forget the context in which the conversation came up, but it caused this issue to resurface in my mind. I don't know what's typical and what's not. I suspect people's experiences vary a lot by region, demographics, etc. Just interested in getting a feel for whether my experience is out of the ordinary or not.
