All Aircraft grounded in the UK, France, Holland and Denmark
by llbh inbecause of a large plume of dust being blown to the uk by a volcanic eruption in iceland all aircraft in the uk and beyond have been grounded, no airplanes are flying at all, they will not be flying till tommorow at the earliest , and then maybe not.
apparently the dust can cause engines to stall, which has happened before.. heathrow is the busiest international airport in the world, and second busiest overall, the dislocation of passengers all over the world is massive.. .

A lot of the free urban poor in Rome were former middle class farmers who when they went to war for the republic their lands were often confiscated by the Patricians, and made into large plantations operated by slave labor, and so with no where else to go they were forced to the cities.

Not on the internet but one time I got a survey in the mail with $2 I filled it out and sent it back, then a few weeks later the same company sent me this huge survey and $5 with a promise to send me another $15 if I sent the completed survey back. The thing was a novel, I think it took me between 3 to 4 hours in total to fill it out. I did get the $15 check, but so not worth my time.

Left foot braking thread lives again...
by JWoods inok, as i promised i put up the left foot braking idea up as a thread in the driver education section of my ferrari web site.. although it died here, (and i could not find it to add this), it has lived for at least a couple of weeks over there (40 posts now).. the concensus is just about 20 to 1 that left foot braking is perfectly acceptable with an automatic on the public road - if the driver makes the effort to learn how to do it well.
((does not drag brakes, over use brakes, etc.)).
interestingly, over a dozen posters there have the paddle shift manu-matics in their cars and race them in amateur events.

Did you know that aircraft have two foot rudder pedals, both of them have brakes? Left brakes the left wheels, right brakes the right wheels. Most airplanes have this function on the toe of the pedal - pushing forward applies the brakes. Some planes can only be steered on the ground by differential braking - there is no mechanical steering to the wheels.
Yes, I took an intro flight once in a little cessna, 152 I think, it was fun. Turbulence isn't as scary when you're in control.
I've seen the stobe things before, but I was behind someone on 75 this afternoon and every five seconds it was tap tap tap. I was far enough behind, but he was riding somone else's posterior.
