greetings, earth-bound friends:.
i guess at this point in life, given what we all now know, we no longer harbor any delusions of grandeur.
my temporary insanity, which i've written about on other threads, was that assurance of being in heaven with jehovah and jesus and the other 143,999 kings and priests.

"the way you walked was thorny, through no fault of your own, but as the rain enters the soil, the river enters the sea, so tears run to a predestined end.
now you will have peace for eternity.

What about Bob? — “Gone? You think he’s gone ??? He’s NEVER gone!!”—Dr. Leo
speaking to two jw's, separately and days apart, they both weaved in to the conversation the phrase " it is the true religion " .. now in neither case was it possible for me to do my usual thing, piling in with both guns blazing and pointing out that it is impossible for there to be any such thing as "the true religion", unless by "truth" you mean that which is true in your opinion and not supported by facts or reality etc etc.
my question is : is this mere coincidence, or has there been an article or something telling them to say this ?
if there is, could someone point me to it ?
Fink— “Are they in the Truth?”
My daughter always tells JWs who knock on her door that she is familiar with what they offer, that her mother had been in the Truth. That always makes them happy for a flash. Then she drily informs them “Don’t bother. Because I am in the “False”.”
She says they always leave right away.

I remember old light saying: “Religion is a racket and a snare!”
Does anyone else remember that? It was drummed into me when l was getting indoctrinated (1987-1988)that religion was bad but on the other hand l was learning the capital”T” Truth- not mere religion
Around 2007 the special manuscript talk that was read specially in the congregations delivered the idea that it was appropriate to refer to our beliefs as “true religion”
That stuck in my mind. It was a strange matter to mark in our brains.
anyone remember?
what lovely reward is waiting for our high priests of wt ?.
Tiki—so right
I never forget this stand-up CO, Will Gorham.
Sometimes I imagine that he has faded with his wife Bonnie. The only thing you can possibly do is disappear entirely if you are a CO and you wake up.
If you were out there Will and Bonnie, l wish you well.
sharp-witted and well-educated eastern orthodox philosopher and theologian david bentley hart, now a fellow at notre dame, has produced a nt translation (yale univ press 2017) that is causing a major stir.
one-man translations are pretty rare any more, but this one is making a real splash, largely because it does not surrender to the group/translation committee mentality.. .
even though it's been out only a few months, it's already been reviewed several times in well-known publications.
Careful-ha!
succubus and incubus —made for each other.
Pity they can’t make their nightmare together and leave us to what dreams we might have of our own.
it just took me by surprise.
i remember him from a decade or so ago.
he came up with gems like, “weddings are for women, they are not necessary.” also, “if you want to be truly happy, marry an ugly woman.”.
Girl next door-They may deserve it but it still makes me sad. I wish they could taste the sheer joy and freedom and growth that comes from escaping the clutches of a coercive mind controlling cult.
yes, that is the greater pain—Daily smiling-meeting /greeting the “goats”you believe are heading to destruction. Your brain frozen.
I don’t have a secure financial life by any means. But 10 years out of the depressing drag of JW life I often stop filled with gratitude that I’m out of it. Whatever life brings me I don’t have that ball and chain. If I were a Walmart greeter l would still be free.

One of the pitfalls is that groups tend to ave a moderating influence on the finished product whereas lone translators are free to play out their idiosyncratic reasonings.
You may have said that ^^^as a cautionary against this single man translation but I see it as the freedom to speak freely because religious committees can also do harm-/the orthodoxy dumbing down effect.Think:Governing Body.
Is there a plural for incubus ?

Careful-Thanks for posting this.
I read David Bentley Hart’s article and it is so beautiful.
“.....Christians truly cast in the New Testament mold fairly obnoxious: civically reprobate, ideologically unsound, economically destructive, politically irresponsible, socially discreditable, and really just a bit indecent.” -David Bentley Hart
Why l loved Jesus and pisses me that they neutralized him by making him “the son of god”.
in the bible at exodus 22:29 and numbers 3:13 its very specific that the first born males belong to god.
at leviticus 27:28,29 is specifically says all that is given to the lord even the sons can not be ransomed and are to be destroyed.
this makes it clear that human sacrifice of the first born males was expected.
I am sorry Crazyguy for the comments that turned into a diatribe.
Your post asked how the WT explained human sacrifice (and the DNA revealing the blood ties of Jews to the Canaanites.)
Aren’t there bits in the Bible where the the Israelites did sacrifice children?
How the WBTS would push bible verses and words this way and that! Why ? When they were not concerned with the axis of evil described in the Abraham / Isaac scenario.
It seems that you study the Bible like a religious anthropologist ? Is there such a thing?
