Eeeekkkk, I thought they WERE actually called "dog collars" too. (I didn't know why, but that is what I have always thought they were called)

omg!!! DOG collars and the clergy - shock.
by hamsterbait inam i right in thinking that calling a clergyman's shirt a "dog collar" is not the accepted terminology?.
maybe this is why non-jw in the past always looked at me funny when i said this.
i thought it was because they were worldlings and prejudiced against me.. was i just using one of the millerite epithets via freddie, and being downright insulting?.

Husbands cousin found dead in Sherman TX
by megsmomma inshe was only 24, and found dead yesterday.
there has been bad flooding there(people missing and others found dead).....so that may have been a factor, but they are doing an autopsy on her....does that mean there might have been foul play?
she had a troubled life, so we wouldn't rule out someone hurting her.

Thanks all for the kind words and thoughts....Luckily (I guess)I never saw Jag's comments....but, thanks to everyone who stopped them.
Apparently, Lauren was Bi-Polar and on 4 different medications for it....She was staying in a hotel with her friends and partying and her friends called 911 when she would not wake up. They think she died of alchohol poisoning along with a reaction with her meds. I just hope the friends that were with her learned a lesson with this and maybe she saved some lives by losing her own. At the time, she was living with her dad, but, he is a pilot and was gone during this time.
Again...thanks all for caring.

She was only 24, and found dead yesterday. That is all I know so far. There has been bad flooding there(People missing and others found dead).....so that may have been a factor, but they are doing an autopsy on her....Does that mean there might have been foul play? She had a troubled life, so we wouldn't rule out someone hurting her. It is just so sad. I will post when I hear more. Please keep our family in your thoughts.

Do JWs actually believe the things they're taught?
by R.F. inthe governing body has much control over the lives, thoughts, actions, etc..of many.
i was thinking of the "new light" policy and this gives the gb virtually unlimited power to do what they want.. take this for instance: we know how doctrines such as no trinity, no hellfire, and no immortal soul, are all considered the core beliefs that will never change.
lets just that today the gb just happens to reverse them all...what would happen?

Honestly....I don't think that JW's even know what they are taught. I think they understand the RULES they are taught....and the results of not following them...and they know not to question the doctrines (or feel somehow inferior for not quite understanding how they come up with some of the doctrines). I remember doing my research into the religion to decide about going back in it and I was amazed at the things I did not know. (Like Jesus mediating only the 144,000, How they came up with that number, how the scriptures are made to seem so cut and dry...yet are used out of context, the way they come up with their "facts and figures") It was shocking to me!

I am throwing myself out there if you would like to interview me. I was baptised at 14, married at 18 and disassociated myself during a time of extreme post partum depression, which resulted in my getting divorced and losing my child to her JW dad. It has been 8 years and my life is on track now....but, I lost my mom and all my friends I have ever known during that time.....and even though I have a 1 year oldnow...my mom will not talk to me. It is such a painfull thing to experience. I worry about my now 9 year old shunning me in the future. I have thought about going back into the religion for her...but, I know way too much about it now. I did the research to figure out if I believed it...and there is no way I would return at any price.
I am really glad to hear of your project and wish you much success!!
Let me know whenever you are ready if you would like to talk more. Lyndi

I have been pretty much MIA for a while, while relocating from Texas to NC.....but, I am very glad to see you here too! Life has so many options open to you now that you are out of the controlling hands of the WTBTS. Don't be in too much of a rush to know exactly what you are going to do......things will fall into place the way they do. Enjoy your life, and don't be a stranger here!!

I have a long haired doxie....and our family will always have one. The long haired breed are mixed with Spanials way back and they are sweeter in nature than the short haired breed. They are stubborn though and I would suggest only one that has been well trained and fixed if she is getting one that is older.
I like your chiuahuah idea though....I have known several really sweet ones, and they seem more easily trained.

Is it weird that I don't miss it?
by bluesbreaker59 inok, other than my father, i don't miss anything about being a dub at all.
seriously, i love my life right now, its great, thinking for myself, doing what i want, etc., etc.. i've only been out 3 months, officially, and i find no "void" or anything.
i've got a bunch of great friends on the outside, that i had for years while being jw, and then i have my mother and all her family supporting me.

It is not weird that you don't miss it....You were set up really well to exit....Having friends, family and a hobby that is a career out of the borg, But, some people followed everything the dubs said to a tee....having no worldly friends, staying away from worldly relatives, and only pursuing the ministry with extra time....they are the ones that have big voids and miss certain aspects. ((((((((((((((((((((Vernon))))))))))))))))) (and I think that is not weird either)

Were you or someone you know sexually molested by a Jehovah's Witness ?
by flipper indue to the fact there are about 27,000 members of this religion that are known pedophiles, and the information about it is kept in a secret database file, i wonder how many lurking jw's as well as others are aware of the severity of this problem?
remember, it's 27,000 pedophiles that they know about.
what about the thousands that don't get caught?

In just one hall in Kingman Az, there were 8 (at least) out of 14 girls molested by the same handicap brother. People would send their kids to his house to "help" him. Also, my brothers friend was molested by his JW step dad in that hall.
In the other hall I went to in MA, I found out two of my friends (who were boys) were messing around with each other during their sleep overs and the instigating one also molested a young boy he used to babysit all the time for. Real nice, ehe? But at least neither of them were allowed to hang out with girls....they might have done something immoral, ya know.

Out of the Family...
by saywhat29 inliterally and figuratively.... if you don't know my story, its the basic "i'm gay and from a family of jws" and lately it hasn't been going well.
i'm still saving up to move out, but that "meeting" i was suppose to have with the elders is scheduled tonight.
it was scheduled tuesday night but i dodged that bitch hard.

((((((((((((((((Hugs to you)))))))))))))))) Join the crowd of those of us here without families. I am totally shunned by my own mother too....and I think (after 8 years) I am finally to the point of not being upset by it. By the way, I am married and have a 1 year old....I don't do anything "bad" according to them, but it does not matter to them, you are either IN or OUT....so don't let her make you think it is because you are gay.....It is just because you are not conforming to the JW way of life. I know it really hurts, but, try to surround yourself with people who uplift you and cherish you.
