  there must be hundreds of thousands of current jw's who haven't planned for retirement.

  i know that i was "in" the troof til my mid-forties and always believed what's the point?

  didn't they tell us that advanced degrees were useless?

  I am also in the group of boomers that will hit the fan soon, maybe a little longer than most. If I can get enough stashed away, without my Dub wife realizing it, then we should be able to make it. Of course, her pioneering full time really helps out the whole picture, and does not add anything to the Social Security safety net. Along with her donating a few thousand dollars a year in vehicle expenses (rant).

  I have met more than a few people in their 50s and older, who should be retired, but do not have the investments to do it. They have lived a life of ignorance and being controlled that has led them to where they are. One man that I talked to was in his 60?s had all of his messed up kids in the ?truth? and was still working at a home business and trying to build up a nest egg for ?when they get older?. He told me one time that the Awake had compared the amount of studies and material that the average Dub will go through in a 4 year period as comparable to a college degree. I asked him if it would do him any good to put down on an employment application that he probably has a doctorate, with all of the time that he has spent. He will never get out of the Organization though, all of his kids and their children are in and the only friends that they have are in. What a shame, but someone should be held accountable.

  Is the Wt bursting at the seams with$ billions?

  it is true that the society owns 10'0s of millions of $ to say the least in real estate, and monetary funds used to run the org.

  but can anyone substantiate that the wt has billions of dollars in moneys such as cash in bank accounts, in stocks?.

  if so, how does the wt justify having all of that wealth while most of humanity is in dire need?

  there is a lot of prime property in New York City that could be unloaded for a good price. Since they don't pay any taxes on thier real estate, the City of New York would propably like to see them get rid of it.

  i have read numerous posts throughout this forum.

  i want to get your opinions on why so many people here are so deeply invested in discussing these issues.

  i find it quite interesting because some dubs (on the fringe of dubland) and ex-dubs vigorously argue against wt doctrine while other dubs and ex-dubs vigorously argue against the existence of god.

  I agree that this is a place where you can talk to people that have shared interests. Sometimes it is hard to relate to people that do not see the Watchtower as a cult or thier activities as destructive. This site also gives me a heads up to some of the literature and another viewpoint so that I can discuss it with my wife(still in).

  i was talking to my twin sister tonight on how i didn't want to go to the upcoming convention this weekend because we had already been to it 2 months ago... .

  i have to prepare some audition matrial for a arts event and my parents are not sympathtic to the fact i got allot to do, and we've already been.

  I guess, that I did not think a lot about what I would be doing for that eternity. I knew that I would get bored and at some point try to get free. My wife, on the other hand, had all kinds of work. She would be cleaning up all of the dead bodies, cleaning the pollution and kissing some serious Elder butt.

  What worried me the most was the idea of perfection. We were always told that we would receive perfect bodies, no more disease and paradise would be perfect. But, to whose standards would all of this be judged. My idea of a perfect body might be a lot different than someone else?s, at what age are we perfect. Maybe at 60 years old we have come to a perfect state of enlightenment and we would not have to worry about sex. Would we need to worry about disease, would they also become perfect, they were created by God (he created everything).

  Maybe I just looked into it to far. Beer and sex.

  Got caught throwing magazines in the trash

  i had to take my dad to the va hospital for a doctor's appointment and in almost every waiting room there was magazines not even recent issues.

  you have to wait for freaking ever at the va hospital so i decided to do my civic duty and i went around this huge hospital collecting magazines and would throw them in the nearest trash can.

  nobody cared until i got on the 4th floor.

  I like the idea of inserting some literature from freeminds into it. Maybe glueing it to one of the pages, so that it will be harder to remove.

  America: North America - The Difference: BRITS READ UP!

  welcome to the continent of north america.. within this continent, which includes also the carribbean islands, and central america, it's not one (1) country, but a collection of different countries.. i have noticed, quite a bit actually, with our friends from across the pond (atlantic ocean), especially those that reside in great britain/united kingdom, yes even the republic of ireland, of their generalities with regards to the term: america.. heaven forbid, i would guess if you lumped all brits in with europe/europeans.

  wrong.. my experience has been that, most brits consider anything over this way.....the other side of the atlantic as: america.

  thus to other nationalities within north america: that means: the u.s.a.. to a north american: when you say "america" it means: the united states of america.

  If you talk to a mexican, who is also an American (from North America), it would be proper to say that I am from Estadas Unidos or United States. It makes me upset when I see the term American applied to just one country.

  If it wasn't for the Truth why would anyone be moral?

  of all the assinine comments that are made by rank-and-file jehovah's witnesses i've got to conclude that among the dumbest are comments to the effect that if it wasn't for this religion (the jws) there would be no reason to act in an ethically moral fashion.

  take my sister, for instance.

  she once related that if it wasn't for the truth tm there would be "no reason" not to have sex outside of marriage.

  A person that buys into this religion, in a big way, is looking for an ultimate father figure. I have seen it in many of the ?true believers? or ?born agains?. After you have talked to them for a while, and gained their trust, they will mention that their father was an alcoholic, or he ran off when they were young, and was never there for them. The God of the bible is the ultimate father, tells you what is right and wrong, punishes you for being bad and demands total loyalty. Not even my father was that abusive and I knew him all of my life.

  People who do not have to rely on the ultimate father figure have a deeper set of morals, in my opinion. If I feel compelled to do good it is because I do not want to hurt the feelings of another, or I have to make it right within myself. As opposed to a religious person who is doing it because their god told them to do it. The prisons have some of the highest rate of religious people in them, as compared to the rest of the country, hard to believe all of those moral people in jail.

  Some of the witnesses that have told me they would be out having sex all of the time, if they hadn?t found the ?truth?, were indoctrinated during their mid twenties. Most people are settling down during this time in their life anyway, I know that I couldn?t keep up with the pace that I had set in my early twenties and still expect to be alive. So, for most of the people that are saying that, they are just having thoughts of the way it was or might have been.

  Of course when a dub hears "I can figure right from wrong for myself," they instantly identify your satanic thinking.

  i don't see the bros out in service and i dont see that mags out there like before.

  It is hard to tell if the numbers in the field are going up or down in my area. With the massive amount of growth in Southern Nevada there is always more and more people anyway. I have noticed the Spanish congregation growing at an astronomical pace, but that is mirrored across the country. I have heard some talk about parking lot witnessing, but have not seen them around.

  Did or does being a JW cause a person to be immature?

  i have noticed that most jehovahs witnesses and many who have left are very immature.

  could you please give me your oppinion on that.

  do they go as far as controlling your maturity ?

  I guess, that I share the opinion of everyone else on this board. I feel that a lot of the witnesses are immature in the way that they look at the world. They have never been exposed to it. And rather than try to fix the big world problems that we all encounter, they are told that Jehovah will fix them. No need to get along with worldly people, no need to improve your career or get along with your boss, PG movies are bad and should be ignored. Sex and porn is openly talked about but will never be seen until you are married and then it must conform to witness guidelines. Please, stop with the control and let these kids grow up and make decisions on their own.
