I'm loving my thirties. I was terrified of turning 30 but I'm loving this side of the decade way more than my 20's. -

by theinfamousone inbefore we even begin, if you have not read my story, you may not understand why this is such a big deal to me... this is a part of my story and it can be found at: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/101870/1.ashx.
and here we go... my "father", an abusive bastard of a jw, recently sent me an email that put me in a tizzy!
it was late friday night, i had just gotten home from a shift at a local bar where i bartend on occasion!

it's amazing to me how people can do the things your father has done and then act like they've done nothing wrong. my mother and stepfather are the same way. truly sick people.
do whatever feels right for you. nothing wrong with just letting it be whatever it needs to be.
peace and love to you. -

Man's search for meaning
by ithinkisee ina book that i cannot recommend enough.
one of the more balanced views of life from someone who was stripped down to his very existence as a prisoner in the nazi concentration camps.
the book is short - half the book is dedicated to covering his actual experience in the camps.

I really enjoyed this book also. there's an excerpt in that book where he talks about speaking with a woman in the camps who was close to death. she was laying in a tent for days waiting to die and she tells him about a conversation she had with a tree that was in her view through a window. at the time the author thought she may have been crazy but she wasn't. she had come to a higher consciousness due to her experience and she had a tremendous peace that is still awe-inspiring to me whenever I think of that story.

Nothing.
by Narkissos inperhaps this paradoxical "topic" is one with which we here have dealt a little more, or a little more consciously, than the average population.. we used to have our heads full of beliefs (which we called "truth") in every direction: on theology, on cosmology, on paleontology, on past history, on so-called prophetic future, on heaven above, on earth, on she'ol beneath.
on many things -- current events, traditions, other peoples' beliefs and behaviours -- we had strong opinions which were directly or indirectly (the famous "conscience" matters) part of the same deal.
and of course our life was filled with activities and relationships, a community of "friends," people to "help" or "teach," etc.. then, gradually or suddenly, we came to suspect, often with a measure of terror, that all of this was not what we had thought and might sooner or later turn into... nothing.. this "nothing" is perhaps one of the most scary thoughts to people contemplating leaving the org one way or another.

ahhh another thread where Nark makes "music with words." I love it.
***the fear of nothing many of us find on their way -- a fear that often scares us into additional, unnecessary painful and vain experiences****
that fear of *nothing* was paralyzing and made me quite literally lose my mind for awhile. it wasn't the fact of having nothing that was so scary, it's *anticipating* the thought that you may have nothing that is so paralyzing. when you come face to face with that monster and look in it's eyes you find it's not *too* scary. ;) ha! yeah right.
it's curious to me that the idea of having nothing was so scary to me once upon a time. I rather like having no definite lines or labels any longer. it's quite comfortable to me to learn to shed the ego and have *nothing* -

One more newbie, yeiks!
by wings inmy story as a witness follows much of a 'dumb and dumber' sort of path.
i get to be both dumb, and dumber, of course.
what drove me to post on this site was sheer despiration.

welcome wings.
what a story. It always amazes me how fast some of us decompress when we start the reading and researching.
you are on a good path. it sounds like it may have some bumps along the way, but you sound incredibly smart and sensible to handle come what may.
I truly hope you find the help and encouragement you need here.
