Through a Darkened Pane
by compound complex inmy frequent walks these last few years about the neighborhood so familiar to me would ordinarily be construed a pleasant enough non-event.
a little mild exercise - taken in small doses to keep the joints operating properly - and a keen eye peeled for the ever-changing face of nature have rendered the daily promenade a suitable diversion.
until recently.

10 good reasons why celebrating birthdays should be allowed
by bluecanary ini cannot take credit for any of the gems below but i did want to polish and organize them.
much of the information was borrowed from this thread.
if you can come up with any more, please post them.. the bible does not ban birthdays.

Great job of organizing this cool list, Blue Canary. Thank you!
I also want to reiterate Six's quote:
I looked around and thought "are we interested in saving lives, or not?" That's what it comes down to. JW's make a big deal about "stumbling". Well why don't they practice what they preach and stop "stumbling" worldly people away from Jehovah with their silly, non-biblical, contradicted by their own writings, birthday psuedo-doctrine?
Wow.

Terry's New Article on Freeminds
by sweet pea interry has come up trumps once again - a great article for doubting witnesses, reassuring them they are not alone and encouraging them to face their fears and explore further .
http://www.freeminds.org/support/cult-survival/when-the-truth-is-not-enough.html.
email it to any jw you know having doubts.. thank you terry..

Excellent article! This particular section is gold, I think it bears repeating here:
1. Everybody is entitled to know what is going on.
2. What you don't know can hurt you because you are making decisions with a blindfold.
3. When you are told not to do research on your own--somebody is trying to hide something from you.
4. Only liars need to fear the whole truth being disclosed.
5. True things don't have to be changed to correct mistakes.
6. Changing your story means you are either backtracking or covering something up.
7. An honest seeker of truth is not afraid to look everywhere because bad ideas and lies can't stand the light of day.

I got to apologize to a former Bible study
by JerkhovahsWitless ini spoke to someone who was my best friend almost 10 years ago when we were still kids (late teens and early 20s).
he wasn't a jw, but unfortunately got interested in it due to me.
i studied with him for a while and tried my hardest to pull him into the cult.

He didn't hold a grudge against me and said he knew I was trying to recruit him because I cared about him.
Wow. This is a great thing. Congratulations to you both!

Active JW prince - not paying Caesar's things to Caesar
by Gopher inthe most well-known jw musical artist is prince.
for some reason he owes hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxes to the county, the school district, the state of minnesota, and many others.. maybe he believes the "old system" is ending soon so it doesn't matter anyhow?.

Were You Embarrassed When Someone "at the door" Knew More About the Bible Than You Did?
by BabaYaga init seems i often encountered "householders" who could rattle off examples of the bible contradicting itself or go into a diatribe about the history of the bible.
i never knew what to say... but of course i was trained to "know" we were still "right" regardless of their argument, and i somehow still managed to feel holier than thou and left the door feeling sorry for them (rather than foster any dangerous doubts!).
did you ever feel that someone "at the door" might actually know more about the bible than you did?

Ah, memories. Ah, lessons in life!
Now, I know so much more about the bible than I ever knew while witnessing about it! And that knowledge is still barely scratching the surface. I just know enough now to know we had no business witnessing about it.
How about you? Did you ever feel that someone "at the door" might actually know more about the bible than you did? What did you feel, say, or do?

"We're not here to convince you this is the truth."
by sd-7 inthose were the words of an elder during my judicial committee.
it's weird that they suddenly came to me, weeks later.
i can't help recalling the disappointment i felt when i heard that.

If it's not their job to convince me of the truth, then what were they there for? Simply to punish? Aren't shepherds in the congregation SUPPOSED to help people to see the truth?
...
As I later told my wife, out of everything that I was put through--with her, the elders, my brother the theocratic bulldozer, my mom--not one of them sat down with me, opened the Bible, and showed me thoroughly where I was wrong.This is a great point. And as Password Protected added, this was his experience, too.
That is indeed very telling. They aren't there to convince you because they know they cannot.

Sadness = healing
Fear = wisdom
Resistance = protection
Anger = strength
Shame = humilityInteresting and beautiful take on it, Spaznik. It really is a gift... and part of the process.
In my own case, I was in denial for so long, I just hoped the anger phase wouldn't last once it started! Thankfully... no... it didn't. It moved right along.
Congratulations to you.
Love,
Baba.
