I stayed in a lousy marriage for 28 years, because I thought I had too. I finally realized that my staying had not done anyone any good. It did not help me, my kids or my ex. The moment I realized that is when I lost my faith. The teaching was that you don't leave a marriage execpt for adultery, and that by following that principle, it would be better for me. But it hadn't. I still thought maybe it was the truth, but I thought if God was going to punish me at the big A for chosing life and happiness, then so be it. But all of a sudden I couldn't imagine it. I left and never looked back. Some of the brainwashing lingered for a few years, but basically that was it for me. It's been nice reading all this stuff about the UN, Pedophiles, and so forth, as it further validates my choice. But even without that evidence, I knew it just wasn't right. I have been so happy, my life is great, and I don't regret my decision at all.

11/15/08 WT: Sick? Too damn bad - get yer @$$ back to the KH, slacker!
by sir82 inthere's been a few topics on the "search out the inactive ones" articles in this wt, but i haven't seen anything on the 3rd study article, titled "maintain a scriptural view of healthcare".. i was unaware that the bible had anything to say at all about healthcare, but oh how wrong i was!.
unfortunately, no scanner - perhpas one of the other intrepid posters could scan and post it.. but here are a few choice quotes:.
paragraph 6: "...we know it is wise to avoid letting our health become an obsession or a constant concern.".

When I read the part about practices that were "uncanny?", I thought they were talking about muscle strength testing. That is where you push on down on an outstretched arm. You do it when they have a certain medicine in the other hand, and then nothing. If they loose strength when they are holding the medicine or whatever, then it is bad for you. I you are stronger, then it's good for you. It's bogus in my opinion, but I don't see the harm, I guess they think it's some kind of voddoo.

American Idol, Survivor and all reality shows. Totally boring to me. I don't get it, I'd pick a book over any of them (and do). We dropped most programming (except the network shoes and only them because they gave us a really good deal). We have Netflix, watch the occasional network show and mostly we read. I sort of feel out of sync with the rest of the world, but I'm not watching dumb stuff just to have something in common with other people. I get the appeal, I don't see anything wrong with it if that's your thing, it just doesn't work for me.

Tell Us Dumb Things You've Heard Elders & Bethelites Say
by minimus inthere are a lot of dumb organization men.
gb losch seems to be the top dog for dumbness.. in the local halls i've seen and heard many dumb elders open their mouths.. one elder had a fondness for bible prophecy and watchtower chronology.
he always speculated on what the "watchtower really means" about a statement in print.

At a talk on music, a brother ranted on about the evils of the song "Mac the Knife". This song was from the 60's, and this was in the 90's. It was one of the stupidist things I had ever heard at a talk. So, if you listen to that song, you will become a hired killer???

Are YOU 100% Out Of Jehovah's Witness Control?
by minimus inas long as you have family still in the jw`s..there`s always going to be problems..it does`nt go away.........................outlaw

I am, I would say about 98% free of JW Control. My witness parents have passed away. I have one brother sitll in, he doesn't talk to me, and I'm OK with that. I have one sister who went back after been out for 20 years (because of grandkids). She says she will always talk to me, no matter what, and so far it has been fine. I expect at some point the brainwashing will take over and she will cut off relations, but I hope not. The sad thing is for years I didn't talk to her because she was DA. Then I began to see her again, then I was out, but now she's back in. Weird. I live in antoher state from where I was a JW, so no chance I would ever run into anyone I know. They have never come to my door. I have it easy, compared to some.

Unitarians?
by dogisgod ini've been invited to "visit" the unitarinan church tomorrow am.
what do you guys think?
it doesn't really sound like a religion to me.
-
LisaRose
I haven't been to the Unitarian, but to the Church of Christ. They are pretty liberal also. The guest minister was a lesbian woman. She actually gave a good sermon on protecting the environment. I thought the whole thing was pretty cool. Exactly the opposite of JWism. My husband's parents go to the church. I'm not interested in joining, but I don't mind attending when we are visiting the parents. It was very warm and welcoming.

Saying Palin hasn't been corrupted by the BS in Washington hardly makes her qualified. She hasn't been to Washington yet. She's cute, she's funny, she passionate, so what? Her hocky-mom/lipstick/"say it isn't so, Joe" shtick is tired already. She seems a limited thinker, doesn't really think the issues through, just usual right-wing knee-jerk. She avoided the questions and came back with her limited talking points and every one thinks she did a great job because she didn't screw up like she did with the Couric interviews. I'm not that impressed, I don't think Obama has been corrupted by the BS in Washington either. But he's been there, has a first rate education, has given back to the community and can think. Sorry, but if McCain drops dead, I don't want a someone with a limited education, limited thinking skills and no depth in the white house.

The desperate plight of women in Afghanistan!
by Gill inhttp://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/women-who-took-on-the-taliban-ndash-and-lost-949723.html.
women in afghanistan are suffering as the country gradually slips back to 'the old ways'.. what to do about it?
i don't really know what the answer is, but ignoring their desperate plight is not the answer.. it appears to me, that their dilemma is made worse by the fact that the western invaders claim to be trying to help the women and young girls, therefore, the women, in the eyes of the taliban, have also become the enemy..

I think it is so sad, that we had a chance to help women in Afganistan and Bush was so eager to go after Sadam, we missed that opportunity. We could have done so much more in Afganistan with the money we wasted in Iraq. We need to go back and finish the job there. .
