I am working on my art. I am teaching myself oil painting. I may never be able to surpass the masters, but if I don't at least try to learn from them, how will I ever know what I can accomplish creatively? At least my progress so far is encouraging enough to me to continue pursuing my short term goals.

Are you accomplishing creatively what you wish?
by compound complex in.
i'm looking for a response to a question overlooked on another thread .... a friend just wrote to say that one does not need to be the sequoia in the forest, this after a mutual lament that we cannot accomplish creatively all that we aspire to .... your thoughts?.

"The movie was not well received by the critics but the public clearly have other views, this being one of the most successful documentary films of all time."
In my opinion, one of the best documentary film of all time is
But that is most definitely off topic.

I watched it, too. I downloaded a copy (didn't want to waste good money on it). Ben Stein is preaching to the choir, so to speak. It is a propaganda piece that aids confirmation bias. If there really is science in Intelligent Design, then this would have been a good opportunity to lay it out for all to see. Instead we are given a lot of hype and inuendo as Ben Stein pretends (not very convincingly) to be an objective reporter on this "conspiracy" of academia.

What's WRONG with this Ten Plague description?
by Terry inmoses brought 10 plagues upon egypt to change pharoah's mind about letting jehovah's people go.. the 5th plague is to destroy only the egyptian livestock:.

a few days later the 7th plague is described:.

Moshe said, "Which begs the question, 'what happens to Christianity, if they also reject the supernatural in the OT?'"
Does that makes one a Unitarian?

Here is one artists rendering of Ancient Hebrew Cosmology. Getting off topic here, but...
People nowadays seem to forget that our advanced scientific understanding of the Universe is barely 100 years old. Even the idea that the Earth revolves around the Sun (which is not technically accurate either) is only a few centuries old. Which is why it sounds ludicrous when 21st Century humans assume that Bronze Age civilizations and superstitious sheep herders had some kind of "special" knowledge higher than our own.
"The sun and moon being in earths atmosphere?" - You are assuming that the writer(s) of Genesis had the same concept of the "Sun" and "Moon" and "Earth" and even "atmosphere" that we do today. Of course, the account in Genesis chapter one should make no sense literally to a 21st Century human who has hopefully had a decent education. The fact is that it probably made perfect sense to people whose education and entertainment consisted soley of telling and listening to stories around the camp fire!
This really is the Age of Irony. Amidst the abundance of technology and wealth of scientific knowledge that makes it possible to transmit information around the globe in a fraction of a second, there are still people who live lives of superstition and fantasy no different from their ancestors back in the Dark Ages of Europe (or wherever they're from). I would even go so far as to speculate that our Dark Age ancestors, despite their superstitions and limited understanding of the Universe, were somewhat more grounded in reality than many of us moderns are, since they were more firmly tied to the realities of their local ecologies. Our ancestors were ignorant for a good reason. What excuse do we have to be ignorant anymore?

Highlights from Circuit (2 days) Assembly Be Afraid Very Afraid!!!
by tjlibre inthe content of the program presented at the circuit assembly: safeguard your spirituality served as a re-affirmation that the wt/gb is loosing the grip of rank & file.
they are becoming boulder and boulder in their blatant use of mind control techniques; in my opinion, their mind control techniques used to be more subtle.
but the content of the program in this past assembly clearly reflected that they are acting out of frustration and desperation.

I guess you could say that they are between a "rock" and a "hard place".

I have CFW on my PSP slim. I am not a fan of the old (pre FF-X) Final Fantasy series games. I never could finish FF-VII. I loved FF-XII. Anyway, my favorite Playstation RPG has always been Grandia. I know I could load it up on my PSP, but I haven't tried. I have a bunch of PSP games I hardly ever play, like "Little Big Planet" and "Me and My Katamari."

Feeling Unfit, Fat and Unhealthy
by cantleave ina semi-serious request.. i hate exercise (yes i am an indolent slob), i sit in an office or a car most of the time and eat and drink too much.
so my new year's resolution is to lose weight (about 3 stone would be good) to try and prolong my life a little since i ain't got eternity in mind anymore.
i am looking for fun ways to get fit, or an effective home based diet programme that has worked for other people.

Addicted to Tabacco?
by White Dove inhow did you start smoking or chewing and get addicted?
i'm curious after talking about it on the other thread.
i think it's fair to find out personal stories before declaring them selfish for smoking.

I hate cigarettes. Always have, always will.
However, ever since I could remember, I liked the smell of a pipe. So, last fall I visited a tobacconist in a mall and bought a corncob pipe and a couple ounces of pipe tobacco. I rather liked the experience, so I went back and bought an Italian made briar.
You're not supposed to inhale like a cigarette. You take the smoke into your mouth and blow it back out without actually breathing it into your lungs. It is all about the flavor and (sometimes) aroma. Not all pipe tobaccos are aromatics. I tried an English blend that really smelled awful, almost as bad as a cigarette. It had a high nicotine content, too, which made me feel rather nauseated. I couldn't finish that tin. Since pipe smoke isn't [supposed to be] inhaled, what nicotine it contains gets absorbed in the mouth, which is much slower than through the lungs. The low level nicotine hit goes well with a mild alcoholic buzz after a long day at work. Of course, like nearly everything, moderation is the key to optimum enjoyment. I hate getting drunk, and I can't stand a strong nicotine hit.
For what it is worth, I didn't get addicted to tobacco. When I ran out of pipe tobacco, I didn't buy anymore. I cleaned my pipe well and put it in a box. Every now and then I take it out and smell the pleasant lingering aroma. I guess I will use it again in the future, but I'm not too interested in smoking tobacco at this time.
