Out of Left Field...Strange things you were told by elders
by FollowerOfSet injust curious if the crazy was limited to my town or not.. i remember and elder, during a talk about everyone being resurrected that it included all the babies that had miscarried or were aborted, because the big j knew what their hearts were.
after the meeting, he was telling a couple of us how it also disturbed him that his wife would have to carry someone elses babies and he would be raising someone elses children.. another elder said that we would colonize other planets, and that since the bible never said the big j didn't make other inhabited worlds that there was a whole universe of planets to colonize after armageddon.. anyone else hear crazy crap like this?.

Newbie here, need some input
by FollowerOfSet ini wanted to introduce myself, and need some advice.. i dissassociated myself back in 1995. haven't had much of anything to do with my family since then.
they are all witnesses, and very dedicated to their beliefs.
so after 15 years without a simple howdy from them, now they are coming around again and being very nice, but it reminds me of when people would have parts in the ministry school...it seems rehearsed and fake.

If they are die-hard dubs, remember that their love and friendship are always -- ALWAYS -- conditional.

To dubs and lurkers. The real truth about "apostates."
by parakeet inwe "apostates" here often wax eloquent about what baaaaadddddd people we are, mostly, i think, to shock the dubs that naively come here expecting to hear whitewashed dubspeak.
i admit, it's fun to bait dubbies from time to time with (mostly fictional) tales about debauchery and mayhem.. but maybe it's time for a reality check to let lurkers and dubs see what we have actually accomplished with our lives since leaving the wts and dubdom.
it would be good for them to see that we don't automatically turn into crackhead satan-worshippers who shoot dogs and spit on the pavement.. it's time to shine, fellow apostates!

It's time to shine, fellow apostates! Tell the dubs what you've accomplished in your life that would not have been possible had you remained a dub. Let them see what's possible when one's mind is free from the imprisonment imposed by WT lies and evasions.
Pay attention, lurkers. With a few exceptions from some of the wise-asses here, you will see what can be possible for you, too.

Jehovah's Witnesses - Trained to Argue
by AllTimeJeff inalthough a cult, jehovah's witnesses should not be underestimated as to their smarts.
sometimes, exiting jw's, due to indoctrination, feel a lot of guilt for leaving.
of course, the governing body wouldn't have it any other way.. upon leaving, many for the first time feel a freedom to express themselves, which is as it should be.

The point is, ex JW's are well equipped to argue most anything.
They are trained to argue, but not "well equipped." That's why they back off from almost any logical counterargument.
To be fair, however, there is no way to train dubs to counter every objection, since most of the objections are true.
The WTS half-informs them, stuffs their pockets full of magazines, and lets them loose on a better informed public.
Tragic.

dissed: Where's the lamb?
Already eaten, which is why the guy hasn't yet been eaten himself. Remember, the dubs say that perfection will come gradually in the new order/earth/system.
SirNose: Substitute the lion's diet with an all-vegetarian one....Go ahead.....I'll wait here.
I'll wait with you. I suspect it won't be long before that human becomes lion kibble.

How good is it to be out? -- compared to life as a dub, it's good beyond the telling of it.

Ignore post with no heading. Sorry.
Reason No. 734 that I'm happy not to be a dub anymore --
It's been mentioned more than once that dubs themselves are apostates for having turned their backs on their former religions in order to become dubs.
They are apostates in a further, more serious sense, however. Over the years, goaded by the WTS, they've turned their backs on their own "outmoded" doctrine, doctrine that was hailed as God's own truth at the time.
They are apostates in every possible meaning of the word ... and the hypocrisy in their denials is appalling.

PARENTING AS A XBORG ORG .........HOW DIFF IS IT FOR YOU?
by freewilly01 ini am a proud parent of a great kid..........fortunately raised as a non jw .. i could see at an early age that manipulation and control just wasn't working for me as a parent.. i remember calling at a door years ago ( i can still remeber the exact door and neighbourhood, so it left quite the impression on me) the householder said simply : thats just wrong to bring your child with you they are way too young to be brought into a religious debate and to take sides on issues like this , where's your head at?
i remember thinking whew where is my head at?.
then i recalled that friends of ours in a local congregation where chastised by an overly aggressive judgemental elder, one of those who didn't allow their kids to watch tv or wear any clothing that might be construed as worldly.. he accused our friends 14 yr old daughter of looking like a prostitute because her skirt was two inches above her knee.

I couldn't stomach the thought of raising my son as a dub, which was the final push to get me out of dubdom.
Having raised my son to have an open mind, to thoughtfully question claims made by others, to choose for himself -- the result is that he is now a confident, well educated young man working in his field of choice, with a lovely wife and healthy, loving 2-year-old son.
He is everything I was not when I was a young dub.

More time talking to each other or householders in the field: You decide......
by dissed inthe jw's annual report has lots of numbers to consider, but this one is probably the most misquoted and misrepresented by them.. 1, 500, 000, 000 hours in the field (note: that's time in the field, not talking to interested ones).
now, they can write their own rules on how to fill out a field service report.
door to door - 8 hours (480 minutes) using the 'dissed rule' of 10% that's 48 minutes of actual talking in the field per month.

When I was a dub, here's how field service time was allocated --
45 minutes to 1 hour door-to-door work. Of that time, perhaps, on a good day, a "discussion" lasting 5 minutes top might take place, and this didn't happen every time. Most interaction was on the lines of "Do you want these mags?" "OK" or "Not interested." Add to that only about a third of "householders" actually answered the door. So out of 1 hour's time, 5 minutes at most was spent in actually interaction and WTS doctrine.
Then came the "break," lasting anywhere from half an hour to 45 minutes. Doughnuts and coffee for everyone!
The rest of the morning was spent driving around in rural areas to make "callbacks," during which one dub actually went to the door to drop off mags while the rest of us sat in the car chatting.
In any given field service morning, each dub spent at most 10 minutes talking to the public. Of that 10 minutes, perhaps 5 minutes was spent in actually discussion about the WTS and the Bible.
That's how it worked out nearly every time I went out in service.
